Mount Eerie is the musical project of Anacortes, Washington-based songwriter and producer Phil Elverum. Elverum (formerly of The Microphones) is the principal member of the band, but has collaborated with many other musicians on his records and in live performances. Most of Mount Eerie's releases have been issued on Elverum's label P.W. Elverum & Sun, Ltd., and feature inventive and highly detailed packaging with his own artwork.
Following the release of The Microphones' Mount Eerie album, Elverum announced that he would no longer use the Microphones moniker, opting instead to record under the name Mount Eerie, after the area in Anacortes, WA called Mount Erie. In an interview with CITR-FM's Discorder in September 2003, Elverum gave his reasons for this change: "Mount Eerie is a new project. The Microphones was completed, or at least at a good stopping point. I did it because I am ready for new things. I am new." Around this time, Elverum also changed the spelling of his own surname (previously, Elvrum).
Ancient history is the aggregate of past events from the beginning of recorded human history and extending as far as the Early Middle Ages or the Postclassical Era. The span of recorded history is roughly 5,000 years, beginning with Sumerian Cuneiform script, the oldest discovered form of coherent writing from the protoliterate period around the 30th century BC.
The term classical antiquity is often used to refer to history in the Old World from the beginning of recorded Greek history in 776 BC (First Olympiad). This roughly coincides with the traditional date of the founding of Rome in 753 BC, the beginning of the history of ancient Rome, and the beginning of the Archaic period in Ancient Greece. Although the ending date of ancient history is disputed, some Western scholars use the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD (the most used), the closure of the Platonic Academy in 529 AD, the death of the emperor Justinian I in 565 AD, the coming of Islam or the rise of Charlemagne as the end of ancient and Classical European history.

What I'd called the spirit world blows into dust...
from Lost Wisdow(2008) Lyrics: We would not be so scared of losing hair and slowing down If we knew that our hearts are not aging Our little hearts are born already ancient We would not be so scared to say "I do" and settle down If we knew that our hearts never go dating They stay at home for us, patiently waiting We would not be so scared of meeting love and lying down If we knew that mountains would be unveiling We would not be so scared of being swallowed by the ground If we knew that greater bodies still were waiting Dotted lines in the air tomorrow morning
After Mt. Vesuvius erupted on August 24, 79 A.D., Pompeii, Italy, has provided an eerie look into what life was like during those ancient times. Tourists flock every year to see the city preserved by the thousands of tons of volcanic ash that literally stopped people dead in their tracks.

www.zerooneanimation.com A Day in Pompeii, a Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition, was held at Melbourne Museum from 26 June to 25 October 2009. Over 330,000 people visited the exhibition -- an average of more than 2,700 per day -- making it the most popular traveling exhibition ever staged by an Australian museum. Zero One created the animation for an immersive 3D theatre installation which gave visitors a chance to feel the same drama and terror of the town's citizens long ago, and witness how a series of eruptions wiped out Pompeii over 48 hours. "We just played an absurd concert to nobody," Mount Eerie's Phil Elverum says, as he faces a sea of empty red seats at the Folger Shakespeare Library's gorgeous Elizabethan-style theatre in Washington, D.C., just across the way from the Supreme Court. Serendipitously, a group of schoolchildren had toured the oak halls of the library just minutes before, and would take cover in each other's coats from the gray rain outside. We needed only to tape their gleeful yelps to match the recorded version of "Ocean Roar," heard on the album of the same name — just one of two stirring collections Mount Eerie released in 2012. Both Clear Moon and Ocean Roar are massive and atmospheric records — not at all strange bedfellows in Elverum's sonic vocabulary — but they both communicate his life-affirming, ...

what i find
will be found easily
and only when i'm not looking for it
without looking for the morning
in the sunset
and it's like this
and my will to live
hides implied
in my heart beating
without looking for fufillment
but just accepting it
oh whats this
is this my heart
and is it thumping?
oh my heart
oh there you are
i stopped hunting
i thought you would be as big as a whale
my nets were knit
my heart burns on
i had my ship sailed
and oh my heart
there you are
? in my hair
and oh my heart
stowed away
oh sleepy heart
what do you say?
