Hello Ben, I am writing you from the stormy town of Seattle, WA where it is so blustery I can feel the walls of the shed I’m living in give under the pressure of the wind. Olympia is up and down as always but there is a rather dismal climate at the moment as we lost one of our friends recently. In positive news the OHC Fest this August (2015) was a huge success and number three will take place next year! Every show of the five that were held sold out and I allowed the venues to be at about twice capacity. Energy was extremely high and some serious stand-out sets for me were LOCK, CONDITION, and GLOSS at OBSIDIAN, VEXX, BIG ZIT, GLUE and CCTV at OLD SCHOOL, and CRYOGENICS at LE VOYEUR. I mean, every band is amazing to me on every bill those two days which is why I booked them on the fest, but there was something in the air during those sets… OLD SCHOOL was the most packed I think it has ever been in its history serving as a punk venue. The after shows started at 11pm and were four bands a piece. The doors could not be closed and people were sitting up in the rafters and basically pickled by the venue anywhere bodies could find room. OBSIDIAN is a new venue in Olympia that NATHAN (formerly of THE MANIUM) runs and he is doing a hell of a good job; amazing grub, a full bar and an incredible sound system on a perfect sized stage. This venue is probably one of the best things Olympia has going on for it right now. COREY just moved back to the Bay to be with her mother in times of need so that’s a big hit for the small city considering that she plays in VEXX, GLOSS, and COWBOY. GLOSS just returned from a venture across the United States that was full of wild stories. JOEY is still stationed in Olympia and has been busting butt printing for bands in the PNW and abroad as they tour through. JOEY also has a slew of new bands going among them LOWER SPECIES and EIGHTBALL. Both are well worth checking out. COMBAT KNIFE has an LP coming out soon that I’m very excited to hear. JOEY and MIRCE also have a new band called STAND UP that is one of the coolest new Olympia bands. I jammed the songs with MIRCE a while back and It sounds like a more HC oriented IRON CROSS. MIRCE and I also still have TURTLE NECK, COWBOY and ODD MAN OUT going together but BLEN is out for six months and TAYLOR moved to Bellingham so TURTLE NECK is in a deep hiatus. ODD MAN OUT is picking up steam and is a project I first recorded in 2008. After years of lineup struggle we have a dope one now of some of my favorite individuals so I’m very excited to move forward with it. The demo was self released and also came out on JUSTIN’s label WARTHOGSPEAK as a 7”. We’re recording for a new record early next year. ODD MAN OUT will be touring Mexico with PROTESTER late December. GAG is plugging right along, we have a new LP coming out on IRON LUNG called “America’s Greatest Hits”, in my mind a little cheeky toward the modern ~american hardcore~ trend. The new record is my favorite thing we’ve ever recorded. We’ll be leaving next week on an East Coast tour for the LP and to play AHC fest so we’ll see you soon bud. BRICKLAYER also has an LP coming soon on NOT NORMAL out of Chicago and HARDWARE out of the UK so stay tuned for that. We’ll also be doing a little East Coast tour around DAMAGED CITY. CC DUST is my new favorite Olympia band and is composed of DAVID from TURTLE NECK playing bass, keyboard and drum machine and MARY JANE of VEXX on keyboard and vocals. It is incredible, reminds me at times of some darker Cocteau Twins but also gets really upbeat and danceable. DAVE HARVEY has been recording like a madman as always and has a new band whose name is escaping me. I just saw their first show the other night. The Bremerton boys in POWER are holding it down and just released a new 7” called HEAVY MUSCLE. They played my favorite set of RAINFEST this year complete with a Steppenwolf and Motorhead cover all clad in sleeveless Hawaiian shirts. We filmed a music video for their new single at TIKI HOUSE and it is composed of swimming in the fall, pantsing and pissing on each other, covering each other in old fruit, skateboarding, moshing on top of the van, etc. BROKEN WATER has been gigging and I was sad to miss their Seattle show last night. NASTI is a great new Olympia band that will be playing ROSS’s fest in OKC EVERYTHING IS NOT OK this year. LYSOL is a new Seattle band with members of the now defunct FREAK VIBE and NEW GODS just put out a new record. SINGLED OUT and RED SCARE are newfound friends from EVERETT a little further North. STRANGEWILDS just got back from a 2 month full US jaunt and ILL INTENT is putting the finishing touches on a new record. My new band CONVICT just put out a demo cassette on PAINKILLER and did a short and stressful bay jaunt that I’m surprised even happened. There are a lot of new bands and projects I’m excited about that I mentioned in a very brief OHC zine I’ll be bringing on tour.  Seattle is great and of course SUDS DENIM is doing fantastic as always. I counted my band tattoos for you and I have 85 also I got a smartpone in June for the first time and it’s real weird. Miss you bud and hope NY is treating you well, see you soon!
