As anyone who has attended grad school in the humanities knows, “race, gender, and class” are the Big Three of theory — the Holy Trinity, the Ford, GM and Chrysler, the Dewey, Cheatham and Howe of categories of analysis. Writing about topics such as housing and deindustrialization, we have found it impossible to escape these dimensions of human experience, and Tropics of Meta has explored them by looking at the vicissitudes of Asian-American life in the United States, African-American homeownership, the construction of Arab identity through television and film, and many other issues.
