ブリティッシュカウンシル英会話スクールでの「Doctor Who（ドクター・フー）で英会話　ワークショップ」開催を記念して、担当講師でWhovian（ドクター・フーのマニア）のNickによるドクター・フーの解説動画です。もう少し濃い内容となる第二弾もどうぞ楽しみに。以下が書き起こし文です。 Nick’s Doctor Who Gude Part1   Hi everyone, my name is Nick Weston and I am a teacher at the British Council in Japan and I am a Whovian.   Today we're going to look at the background and history of Doctor Who, to help make sure you're up-to-date with the eccentric Time Lord.   Doctor Who is the world’s longest running science-fiction television series, and one of the longest running television dramas in the UK. It was first broadcast in 1963, and has since gone on to become a major part of British national culture whilst becoming a cult favourite around the world.   The show is about the adventures of a mysterious alien who can travel through time and space, his name is The Doctor. The Doctor comes from a race of people known as Time Lords, who with the discovery of time travel vow only to observe time, never to interfere. The Doctor who is curious about the wonders of the universe steals a time machine (called the TARDIS) and runs away from his people. On his journey through space and time, The Doctor learns that he has a great compassion for those in need and finds himself helping countless people across the universe. The character is also able to change his appearance and personality, if he is too old or suffers a mortal injury. This process is called regeneration, and that is why so many different actors have been able to play the same character in so many unique ways.   In series 5, the Doctor is portrayed by Matt Smith, the youngest actor to take on the role. The Doctor is also accompanied by the companion (who is usually human) and helps him during his adventures. In series 5 The Doctor's companion is Amy Pond, played by the actor Karen Gillan. They are later joined by Amy's fianc?, Rory, who is played by Arthur Darvill.   As there is literally too much information to tell you about in this video, I'd like to give you a brief history of Doctor Who in numbers. So let's see...   The show has been going for nearly 51 years. 13 actors have portrayed the Doctor officially. There are over 800 episodes so far. And I’m pretty sure that Doctor has had 42 on screen companions, mostly human but also including a robot dog! The Doctor has battled with over 190 aliens, including the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels. Matt Smith was 27 years old when he took the role as I mentioned before the youngest actor to  take on the role of the character. Amy Pond has the most appearances of a companion with around about 28 stories. And the Daleks have appeared in the show about 22 times I think. In series 5, The Doctor is the 11th incarnation of the character.   So there's a brief history of the show and the character.
