The Artist is a 2011 Frenchromantic comedy-drama in the style of a black-and-white silent film. It was written, directed, and co-edited by Michel Hazanavicius, produced by Thomas Langmann and starred Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. The story takes place in Hollywood, between 1927 and 1932, and focuses on the relationship of an older silent film star and a rising young actress as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by the "talkies".
The Artist received highly positive reviews from critics and won many accolades. Dujardin won the Best Actor Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where the film premiered. The film was nominated for six Golden Globes, the most of any 2011 film, and won three: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Original Score, and Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Dujardin. In January 2012, the film was nominated for twelve BAFTAs, the most of any film from 2011, and won seven, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Hazanavicius, and Best Actor for Dujardin.

In the face of today’s challenges, Self-care is emerging as a necessary practice for the artist. The demands of everyday needs, creative work, relationships, "survival" jobs, and processing our own experiences and the too-frequent trauma of contemporary culture, all leave us burned out and looking for a better way forward. But who has time? What is a self-care practice anyway? And, will it really make a difference? In this free webinar, artist and self-care advocate Jillian Walker will tackle these questions and share revolutionary techniques for developing a self-care practice to reach new levels of mental, physical, and spritual wellness. Everyone in attendance will leave the webinar with their own self-care starter-kit that can immediately begin to transform their lives for the better.

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is Joyce's semi-autobiographical first novel. It traces the early life of Stephen Dedalus and his inner struggle with the oppression of Irish society and the Catholic church, ending with his awakening as a poet and writer and self-imposed exile from Ireland. "Welcome, O life, I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience and to forge in the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of my race." (Description by T. Hynes, with quote from the book) A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man; Audiobook by James Joyce.

Together they tackle James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man...and the entirety of the Joycean ouevre. Is Joyce the ultimate anti-imperialist, post-colonial, iconoclastic exile hero? The smith of the uncreated conscience? A literary magician? A man whose hand did many other things as well? All and none of the above? Yes I said yes he will yes.

I know that you're an artist,
but you're the hardest one to deal with.
Everything that you conceal
is revealed on your canvas.
You find all of your ugly meanings
in all of the things I find beautiful.
Do you see the fall is coming?
Come, I'm falling into you.
You perceive all of these things
I'd never have known.
Love, will you turn off the lights?
we're already home.
You painted me in pastel,
colors that don't tell of any boldness.
That's the way you'd love to see me:
so delicate, so weak, so little purpose.
But your eyes are drawn of charcoal
they're black, they're so cold, they're so imperfect.
Because they see a sleeping world,
where waking isn't worth it.
You perceive all of these things
that I'd never have known.
Love, will you turn off the lights?
