Maralinga in the remote western areas of South Australia was the home of the Maralinga Tjarutja, a southern Pitjantjatjara Indigenous Australian people. Maralinga was the site of the secret British nuclear tests in the 1950s. The site measures about 3,300 km² in area. In January 1985, the Maralinga Tjarutja native title land was handed back to the Maralinga people under the Maralinga Tjarutja Land Rights Act, 1984 passed by both houses of the South Australian Parliament in December 1984 and proclaimed in January 1987.
In 2003 South Australian Premier Mike Rann and Education Minister Trish White opened a new school at Oak Valley replacing what had been described as the "worst school in Australia". In May 2004, following the passage of special legislation, Premier Rann handed back title to 21,000 square kilometres of land to the Maralinga Tjarutja and Pila Nguru people. The land, 1000 km northwest of Adelaide and abutting the Western Australia border, was called the Unnamed Conservation Park. It is now known as Mamungari Conservation Park. It includes the Serpentine Lakes and was the largest land return since Premier John Bannon's hand over of Maralinga lands in 1984. At the 2004 ceremony Premier Rann said the return of the land fulfilled a promise he made in 1991 when he was Aboriginal Affairs Minister, after he passed legislation to return lands including the sacred Ooldea area (which also included the site of Daisy Bates' mission camp) to the Maralinga Tjarutja people.

A description of the partial clean-up of an atomic bomb test site, and the disposal of plutonium.
Sacrificial Lambs on the High Alter of Science Australian servicemen and nomadic Aboriginals reveal the devastating effects of atomic weapons testing carried out in Australia by the British during the 1950s. For the first time, members of the Royal Australian Army, Air Force and Navy describe former top secret aspects of those tests. With the use of rare archival film and photographs, as well as eye witness accounts, Australian Atomic Confessions chronicles the hidden history and exposes previously hidden Governemnet cover-ups. The consequences of nuclear testing imposed on the Australian people and land are not just skeletons of the past. Sydneys' new nuclear reactor continues to pose a threat to the environment and civilians, and the problem of removing and disposing of the old nuclear ...

The Outback is the vast, remote, arid area of Australia. The term "the outback" is generally used to refer to locations that are comparatively more remote than those areas named "the bush" which, colloquially, can refer to any lands outside the main urban areas. Early European exploration of inland Australia was sporadic. More focus was on the more accessible and fertile coastal areas. The first party to successfully cross the Blue Mountains just outside Sydney was led by Gregory Blaxland in 1813, 25 years after the colony was established. People starting with John Oxley in 1817, 1818 and 1821, followed by Charles Sturt in 1829--1830 attempted to follow the westward-flowing rivers to find an "inland sea", but these were found to all flow into the Murray River and Darling River which turn s...

A critique of the Australian government's report of the partial clean-up of the old atomic bomb test site at Maralinga in South Australia.
This is an aerial view of what remains of the old airstrip at Maralinga in South Australia. Between 1956 and 1963, the British carried our a number of nuclear and non-nuclear tests in the area, and used this airstrip to fly in (and out) personnel, equipment, and supplies. As far as can be ascertained, no accessible record of the (total) number of landings and takeoffs at the airstrip over the seven year period is available. The area is now open to a limited number of visitations, but permission must be obtained from the local indigenous owners, and the visiting period is limited (normally) to two days.
Rather than starting as one of the major powers, we're going to learn the game by getting destroyed as Australia. This is the first I've played of any Hearts of Iron games so we'll be making a lot of stupid mistakes along the way. We'll also chance focus a lot as we try to figure out how things work and what we may be able to achieve. There is a specific achievement that we're hoping to attempt from the start, but being the first try it's doubtful that it will happen: • Once More Mate - Occupy Gallipoli as Australia If you enjoy the video please consider leaving a message, clicking like or subscribing to the channel. Parkinson's Law applied at the old atomic bomb test site in South Australia when treating twenty-one debris pits containing hundreds of tonnes of debris contaminated with plutonium.
Maralinga is a remote region of South Australia. In the 1950's and 60's, hundreds of square kilometres of the land were contaminated with plutonium by Britain's use of the site to test atomic bombs. In the 1990's, the Australian government conducted a partial clean-up of the site.
From 1957 to 1978, scientists secretly removed bone samples from over 21,000 dead Australians as they searched for evidence of the deadly poison, Strontium 90 - a by-product of nuclear testing. Silent Storm reveals the story behind this astonishing case of officially sanctioned 'body-snatching'. Set against a backdrop of the Cold War, the saga follows celebrated scientist, Hedley Marston, as he attempts to blow the whistle on radioactive contamination and challenge official claims that British atomic tests posed no threat to the Australian people. Marston's findings are not only disputed, he is targeted as 'a scientist of counter-espionage interest'. In 2001 tons of ashed human bones were found in Melbourne, contaminated by Strontium 90, a toxic residue of nuclear weapon tests in Austra...

Produced by the Home Office and the Scottish Home Department in 1960, "Radioactive Fallout // The Overall Situation" and "Fallout in the Affected Area" give a chilling idea of what might happen if the United Kingdom were struck by nuclear weapons. A simple mushroom shown on the ground quickly becomes a mushroom cloud, and so the story unfolds -- with fallout moving quickly across a large swath of England. Nuclear fallout, or simply fallout, is the residual radioactive material propelled into the upper atmosphere following a nuclear blast or a nuclear reaction conducted in an unshielded facility, so called because it "falls out" of the sky after the explosion and shock wave have passed. The film gives advice concerning how buildings and people can be protected from fallout, including the...
This is an update on some success Prof Chris Busby has had concerning the British nuclear test veterans in the UK and their battle with the UK Ministry of Defence and the Home Office. New parameters have been set allowing Prof Busby to challenge the MOD on the false science that they are trying to use to support their case against the nuclear test veterans. This is a first in the UK. This case now has the possibilities of opening up the questions concerning Depleted Uranium and other isotopes that have been deemed to be "low dose". http://nuclear-news.net/ An article transcript will be available later this week at https://europeannewsweekly.wordpress.com Challenging the ICRP dose model with Chris Busby - Court Update https://soundcloud.com/sean-arclight/challenging-the-icrp-dose-model-with...

It peaked at No. 3 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart and remained on the chart for 171 weeks. The album's closing track "Somebody's Trying to Tell Me Something" contains a note held by the group for what seems like an eternity, which would continue into the album's runout groove, and emulated on the CD version for just over 40 seconds. This is an approximation of a locked groove, a gimmick use...

I come from a land of wide open spaces
Where the world turns around us and we just follow suit
There's heat in the air and peace reigns supreme
Got white flags on the clothes lines and the deals are new
In the wind
The ashes fly
The poison crown
The charcoal ground
And if you can't see the smile in me
That's where I wanna be
There's only God
There's only Christ
Think I'll lie down
For just a while
And the grass became granite and the sky a black sheet
Our bed was a graveyard, we couldn't feel our blistered feet
And the moaning and groaning and sighing of death
And the silence that followed and the very harsh reality
So watch and check them out and listen as we learn
Throw the pearls before the swine, ebb and flow, turning tide
Yes, we watch and catch them no matter how they jump
The pigs will have to come to ground, we've got to make it happen
It's really not that new, try and make it happen now
'Cause what are we to do, maybe there's a chance for you
All around
An eerie sound
Their dreams a cloud
Their world in shrouds
In the wind
The ashes fly
Not much time
But time to try
And if you can't see the smile in me
That's 'cause I wanna be
I want to be here at the end
