Anne Gwynne was an American film actress of the 1940s. Known as one of the first scream queens because of her numerous appearances in horror films, the actress-model was also one of the most popular pin-ups of World War II.
This is a video of Anne Gwynne, the queen of the Royal Family of Magic, headed by her husband Jack Gwynne. It was taken in the 1970s in Oak Lawn at the Weygandt's home on Central Ave. Rose Weygandt is taking the pictures before the two go out to lunch!

Made in 1942 during WWII by Universal for the U.S. Government and the War Production Board, KEEPING FIT features actors Robert Stack, Broderick Crawford, Andy Devine, Anne Gwynne, Irene Hervey, Lon Chaney Jr. and Dick Foran in a propaganda movie directed by Directed by Arthur Lubin, written by Paul Huston and produeced by Will Cowan. The film was intended to be shown to war workers and, apparently, the wives of war workers who would be tasked with keeping them well fed and "in shape". The plot of the movie centers around an aircraft factory worker, who passes out at his job due to lack of sleep and poor nutrition (he had a donut and coffee for breakfast). Stack goes to see a doctor who scolds him for his poor habits, and this message is repeated at the 2:30 mark in a speech given by the factory foreman. (All the while, another employee is busy eating a gigantic lollipop! Yes, this ain't too subtle a movie.)
At 4:26, the job of the working mother and housewife is seen, with a wife scampering to feed her husband. At 4:45, she is in tears because her husband refused to eat the food she prepared -- too many starches. This food is not a balanced diet (explains an older woman) because it lacks vegetables --
A guest speaker talks about nutrition and talks about how to make a well balanced, nutritious meal in minutes that leaves a hungry man satisfied. This includes milk, tomatoes, vegetables, salads -- fresh fruits.
At 7:50, exercise is emphasized including baseball, table tennis, bowling, swimming, and more. At 8:00, archery is shown with people shooting targets consisting of cartoons of Tojo, Mussolini and Hitler.
At 8:30, the lazy SOB who was eating a lollipop earlier is shown finally getting some exercise pitching horse shoes. He finally reforms himself and vows to get physically fit.
Get proper rest, get up on time, go to your doctor once a year, keep clean, get good nutrition, drink lots of water, and play a bit each day -- that's the advice of this film which is still relevant today.
At 10:00, a group of aircraft fly overhead forming the letters USA.
Arthur Lubin (July 25, 1898 – May 12, 1995) was an American film director and producer who directed several Abbott & Costello films and created the TV series Mister Ed. A prominent director for Universal Pictures in the 1950s, he is perhaps best known today as the man who gave Clint Eastwood his first contract in film.

Anne Gwynne
Anne Gwynne (born Marguerite Gwynne Trice; December 10, 1918 – March 31, 2003) was an American film actress of the 1940s. Known as one of the first scream queens because of her numerous appearances in horror films, the actress-model was also one of the most popular pin-ups of World War II. She was actor Chris Pine's maternal grandmother.
Career
Gwynne was born in Waco, Texas, the daughter of Pearl (née Guinn) and Jefferson Benjamin Trice, an apparel manufacturer. After her family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, she attended Stephens College, where she studied drama.
While accompanying her father to a convention in Los Angeles, Gwynne obtained a job modeling for Catalina Swimwear. She soon began acting in small theaters and appeared in a newsreel and a charity short. In June 1939, she signed a contract with Universal and was immediately put to work in Unexpected Father.
Universal cast her in a variety of genres including film noir and musical comedy. She made a number of Westerns at the studio, including two she numbered among her favorite projects, Men of Texas with Robert Stack and Broderick Crawford and Ride 'Em Cowboy with Abbott and Costello (both 1942). She is remembered by fans of horror for her work in several pictures made in the 1940s. Her first horror film was Black Friday (1940) in which she played Boris Karloff's daughter. House of Frankenstein (1944) was the last horror picture she did at Universal.

Dick Tracy
Dick Tracy is an American comic strip featuring Dick Tracy (originally Plainclothes Tracy), a tough and intelligent police detective created by Chester Gould. The strip made its debut on October 4, 1931 in the Detroit Mirror. It was distributed by the Chicago Tribune New York News Syndicate. Gould wrote and drew the strip until 1977. Since that time, various artists and writers have continued the strip, which still runs in newspapers today. Dick Tracy has also been the hero in a number of films, notably one in which Warren Beatty played the crime fighter in 1990.
Comic strip
Characters and story
Tracy uses forensic science, advanced gadgetry, and wits, in an early example of the police procedural mystery story—although stories often end in gunfights just the same. Stories typically follow a criminal committing a crime and Tracy's relentless pursuit of the criminal. The strip's most popular villain was Flattop Jones, a freelance hitman hired by black marketeers to murder Tracy. When Flattop was killed, fans went into public mourning, and the Flattop Story was reprinted in DC's series of Oversize Comic Reprints in the 1970s. The villains' small crimes led to bigger, out of control situations, reflecting film noir. Similarly, innocent witnesses were frequently killed, and Tracy's paramour Tess Trueheart was often endangered by the villains. As the story progressed, Tracy adopted an orphan under the name Dick Tracy Jr., or "Junior" for short, who appeared in investigations until becoming a police forensic artist in his father's precinct. He also cultivated a professional partner, ex-steel worker Pat Patton, who gradually became a detective of skill and courage enough to satisfy Tracy's requirements.

The film was intended to be shown to war workers and, apparently, the wives of war workers who would be tasked with keeping them well fed and "in shape". The plot of the movie centers around an aircraft factory worker, who passes out at his job due to lack of sleep and poor nutrition (he had a donut and coffee for breakfast). At 4:26, the job of the working mother and housewife is seen, with a wife scampering to feed her husband. At 4:45, she is in tears because her husband refused to eat the food she prepared -- too many starches. This food is not a balanced diet (explains an older woman) because it lacks vegetables --
A guest speaker talks about nutrition and talks about how to make a well balanced, nutritious meal in minutes that leaves a hungry man satisfied. This includes milk, tomatoes, vegetables, salads -- fresh fruits.
At 7:50, exercise is emphasized including baseball, table tennis, bowling, swimming, and more. At 8:00, archery is shown with people shooting targets consisting of cartoons of Tojo, Mussolini and Hitler.
At 8:30, the lazy SOB who was eating a lollipop earlier is shown finally getting some exercise pitching horse shoes. He finally reforms himself and vows to get physically fit.
Get proper rest, get up on time, go to your doctor once a year, keep clean, get good nutrition, drink lots of water, and play a bit each day -- that's the advice of this film which is still relevant today.

Roberta Harper is placed in charge of the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron, better known as the WAFS, a war-time unit of twenty-five women who ferry planes across the United States so that male pilots can be released for combat service. After six months, Col. Andy Brennan, Roberta's commander, tells her that many in the military are still worried that her squadron cannot handle the more difficult and dangerous tasks required of the ferrying service. Within her own ranks, Roberta has problems with her ambitious sister, Virginia "Virgie" Alford, a globe-trotter who pursues glory for herself above all else. In addition, a romantic triangle develops when aviatrix Nadine begins to court Alex Anderson, though he is secretly married to fellow flyer Jill Romilly. Meanwhile, Gerry Vail, the best aviatrix in the WAFS, worries about her upcoming 100th mission for the unit, as it was during their 100th performance that her father and two brothers, the famous flying circus known as "The Flying Vails," were killed in an aerial accident. Roberta soothes Gerry's fears, however, by informing her that she already flew her 100th mission two weeks earlier. Tragedy does strike the WAFS, however, as Jill's plane crashes soon after takeoff, leading a guilt-ridden Nadine to promise to fly twice as many missions in her place. Soon, the WAFS are given their first overseas assignment, the delivery of planes to a secret South Pacific base, but the mission is canceled when publicity-seeking Virgie purposely crashes her plane in Tucson during a military review, stealing the headlines from the newly decorated war heroes. On the train back to her base, however, Virgie has a change of heart about her actions when she sees her estranged husband, Frank Garrison, on his way to Leavenworth prison for desertion. Despite her sincere apologies, Virgie is "washed-out" of the WAFS by Roberta, who then learns that her husband Tommy has been listed as "missing in action." Accepting the blame for her sister's actions, Roberta resigns as head of the WAFS, so Virgie tries to steal a plane and fly to Washington to straighten things out. Instead, she crashes the plane during an aborted takeoff and is nearly killed. Meanwhile, Brigadier General Wade informs the female pilots that they have been incorporated in the military and will now be known as the Women's Air Force Service Pilots. Their first mission is to deliver war planes to a secret South Seas base known as "Easy Queen Island." Just before takeoff, Roberta is reunited with Tommy, who has returned to the States safe and sound.

She also returned to Broadway that year in the musical "Count Me In." By the late 40s, however, she had been demoted to the "B" ranks, co-starring with Freddie Stewart in the "Teen Agers" musical series of mild but energetic bobbysoxer films over at Monogram Pictures. In her late-20s, June was still playing peppy school girls. The series of eight films included Junior Prom (1946), Sarge Goes to College (1947) and Campus Sleuth (1948). June's film career fell away after this and, following a stint in "Annie Get Your Gun" at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, retired from the business. Following a bitter divorce, she briefly opened a chain of dancing and acrobatics schools in California and when that folded, moved with her son to Florida and for a time worked in a stationery store.
