The Bass Culture Four

Bass Culture is a series of four double CD releases covering Jamaican music from the mid 60’s to the mid 80’s. Subtitled This Town Is Too Hot! for ska and rocksteady, Boss Sounds for early reggae up to 1972, When Reggae Was King for roots and Mash You Down for early dancehall up to 1985.

Hit Bound With Channel One

Deeper Knowledge/Digikiller continue their series of Channel One re-issues with a selection of three 10″ singles and two 7″s out now:

Patrick Andy – Join Me /Self Control Released on a 10″ single. The A side was originally released on a Hitbound 10″ around ’83. The b side is previously unreleased and is on the Revolution rhythm, as used at Channel One for Barrington Levy’s Black Roses. Both sides come complete with their versions.

70's pictures

Check IT Dread for some amazing pictures from Jamaica circa ’78. The photographer, a Norwegian, published a book with many of these in 1979 in her home country. This seems to be the first time these have been seen since then. Many thanks to Staxawax on the Pama forum for the heads up on these.

Pressure Sounds Run Things!

Pressure Sounds is really coming into it’s own in the re-issue market, the imagination and attention to detail of their reissues in the last year or so has really put the competition (or whats left of it) to shame.

Micron On Pressure Sounds

Another new release that sounds like it could be a winner is Every Mouth Must Be Fed a various producers set of singles originally released on the Micron label in the early to mid 70’s. Due out on Pressure Sounds on 16 June this set should be well worth checking.
