On September 7, 1999 my brother-in-law had this great idea of strapping a video camera to the dashboard of is car and tuning the radio to Q92 while driving around almost every single area in Timmins.
Now 14 years later we watch the video and observe the things that have change around Timmins. You will be surprise at the things that were there at that time or not there. Also, don't forget to listen to the radio commercials on Q92 and the songs they were playing that year.

Here is a tune for all of my family and friends in and from Timmins.
The music and lyrics were written by David Hartt and some of you may remember him as Guy Martin, the keyboard and the original lead vocalist and founder of the band Longshot well before the days Shania joined.
One thing that you may not be aware of with David Hartt is that he wrote many songs about our small towns, and the history of the people who lived in and for these communities throughout Northern Ontario.
The lyrics from David in these songs I always believed to be stunning as I also believed David had a gift in telling these wonderful Northern Ontario stories and its people, in words and music.
This song (Precious Memories) is about Timmins, and we recorded it in Round Sound Studies located in Toronto way back when in 1986.
When I was having difficult times with work in different countries I always listened to this particular one because it inspired me that if my family could succeed and all of the workers from Timmins in much harsher conditions in the mining and construction industries building the town of Timmins from scratch, then hell, I just had to quit my whining and get on with it.
I found some old pictures on the web, and from my archives. And then put this little video together, hope you enjoy it.

Timmins
Timmins is a city in northeastern Ontario, Canada on the Mattagami River. At the time of the Canada 2011 Census, its population was 43,165. At 2,961.52 square kilometres (1,143.45 sq mi), Timmins was Canada's largest municipality in land area until 1995, when the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Alberta, was created, but it remained the largest municipality in Ontario until 2001, when it was superseded by the newly amalgamated cities of Kawartha Lakes and Greater Sudbury. It is the 69th largest metropolitan area in Canada. The statistical boundaries for its metropolitan area coincide with its municipal boundaries.
History
Timmins was a company town. It was founded by Noah Timmins in 1912 following gold discoveries in the Porcupine Camp. By 1912 the Hollinger, MacIntyre, and Big Dome Mines were founded. The new town had already grown larger than the original mining camps to the east on Porcupine Lake. Situated 680 kilometres north of Toronto, the camp attracted men and women eager to find their fortune in gold mining. Starting in 1907, the area became home to dozens of prospectors who explored the areas around Porcupine Lake and the Frederick House River. The City of Timmins owes its birthright to the riches of the Canadian Shield. On June 9, 1909, Harry Preston slipped on a rocky knoll and the heels of his boots stripped the moss to reveal a large vein of gold, which later became the Dome Mine. This vein was several hundred feet in length and was 150 feet wide. Benny Hollinger and his partner Alex Gillies as well as Allen McMartinlater discovered the Hollinger Gold Mine which was founded in 1910.

Here is a tune for all of my family and friends in and from Timmins.
The music and lyrics were written by David Hartt and some of you may remember him as Guy Martin, the keyboard and the original lead vocalist and founder of the band Longshot well before the days Shania joined.
One thing that you may not be aware of with David Hartt is that he wrote many songs about our small towns, and the history of the people who lived in and for these communities throughout Northern Ontario.
The lyrics from David in these songs I always believed to be stunning as I also believed David had a gift in telling these wonderful Northern Ontario stories and its people, in words and music.
This song (Precious Memories) is about Timmins, and we recorded it in Round Sound Studies located in Toronto way back when in 1986.
When I was having difficult times with work in different countries I always listened to this particular one because it inspired me that if my family could succeed and all of the workers from Timmins in much harsher conditions in the mining and construction industries building the town of Timmins from scratch, then hell, I just had to quit my whining and get on with it.
I found some old pictures on the web, and from my archives. And then put this little video together, hope you enjoy it.

Flying is the safest way to travel. If you've ever ridden in a car with my wife you would agree with me. I love when I leave certain airports and see a sign that says "you are now leaving the safety of aviation" I can say that flying is the safest way travel based on any number of stats. We could start with the number of casualties from flying vs driving cars. The Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum are hitting the road in 2016–2017, with six travelling exhibitions bringing stories of Canadian feats, both great and small, to 19 communities across the country. Terry Fox — Running to the Heart of Canada recreates the heroic 1980 Marathon of Hope. Snow and Lace Up! dig deep into our wintry traditions. Kids Celebrate! introduces children to holidays from various cultural traditions. And Fighting in Flanders and Witness explore aspects of Canadian involvement in the First World War. Our Museums are coming to you, sharing our past wherever you live. The Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum are in Gatineau, in Ottawa, on the web, on social media and in your community.

In 1999 Step By Step recruited the YMCA, Salvation Army and many other organizations as Step By Step CEO/Fonder & liver recipient George Marcello walked 2,500 kilometers around the province of Ontario. He walked under the watchful eye of his road manager Joe Camara. This campaign raised Provincial attention and inspired Premier Harris to allocate 120 million dollars towards this issue and as well, created a new organ agency. (Presently called the Trillium Gift of Life Network). George was recognized in the 37th Parliamentary Throne Speech in Ontario on October 21 1999 .
ONTARIO WALK BEGINS
June 26, 1999 Toronto Canada
Road Manager Joe Camara and I began the Ontario Walk. With a dismal budget of $1,200, I made my way, battling influenza, infections, mosquitoes and scorching heat. I completing a liver shaped route that measured 2,500 kilometres that took me 96 days. We captured the hearts of many Ontarians, including the media and political sectors. Our crowning victory was with Premier Michael Harris. The Premier was extremely inspired by Step By Step and my work and the impact we had on the province. In the Premiers 2nd Throne Speech he invited me as a special guest and officially acknowledged my work and announced the creation of the Premiers Advisory Board on Organ & Tissue Donations and pledged to contribute 120 million dollars to this area. Credit goes to the tireless efforts by the entire Step By Step team and the late MPP Al Paladini.
Sept 31 1999: Ontario Walk completed
We completed the Ontario Walk with a Press Conference arranged by Liberal leader of Ontario Party MPP Dalton McGuinty. At this press conference I provided Mr. McGuinty with our report and recommendations. Our information was based from years of research and consultations in 50 communities around Ontario. Mr..McGuinty accepted our recommendations.
Oct 21 1999: Step By Step inspires Premier Michael Harris
I was invited as Premier Harriss special guest at the 1st session of the 37st Parliament of Ontario otherwise known as the Throne Speech. I was accompanied by Hockey legend Don Cherry. Immediately after the Throne Speech, Lieutenant Governor Hilary Weston invited me to meet her During this reception I had the opportunity to present my report and recommendations to Premier Harris. The Premier accepted my report.

Premier Harris arranged a press conference in North Bay and declared that the Ontario Government would fully support our next campaign the Canada Walk

I can say that flying is the safest way travel based on any number of stats. We could start with the number of casualties from flying vs driving cars.
