Lee Falk, born Leon Harrison Gross (April 28, 1911 – March 13, 1999), was an American writer, theater director and producer, best known as the creator of the popular comic strips The Phantom (1936–present) and Mandrake the Magician (1934-2013). At the height of their popularity, these strips attracted over 100 million readers every day. Falk also wrote short stories, and he contributed to a series of pulp novels about The Phantom.
A playwright and theatrical director/producer, Falk directed actors such as Marlon Brando, Charlton Heston, Paul Newman, Chico Marx and Ethel Waters.
Falk was born in St. Louis, Missouri, where he spent his boyhood and his youth. His mother was Eleanor Alina (a name he later, in some form, used in both his Mandrake the Magician and The Phantom story lines), and his father was Benjamin Gross. Both of his parents were Jewish. Lee was born and raised Jewish. Benjamin Gross died when Falk was just a boy, and after a time, his mother Eleanor married Albert Falk Epstein, who became the father figure for Lee Falk and his brother, Leslie. Falk changed his surname after leaving college. He took the middle name of his stepfather, but "Lee" had been his nickname since childhood, so he took that name also. His brother, Leslie, also took the name "Falk".
The Phantom is a long-running American adventure comic strip, first published by Mandrake the Magician creator Lee Falk in February 1936. The main character, the Phantom, is a fictional costumed crime-fighter who operates from the fictional African country of Bangalla. The character has been adapted for television, film and video games.
The series began with a daily newspaper strip on February 17, 1936, followed by a color Sunday strip on May 28, 1939; both are still running as of 2016. In 1966, King Features stated that The Phantom was being published in 583 newspapers worldwide. At its peak, the strip was read by over 100 million people daily.
Falk worked on The Phantom until his death in 1999; the comic strip is currently written by Tony DePaul and drawn by Paul Ryan (Monday-Saturday) and Terry Beatty (Sunday). Previous artists on the newspaper strip include Ray Moore, Wilson McCoy, Bill Lignante, Sy Barry, George Olesen, Keith Williams, Fred Fredericks, Graham Nolan and Eduardo Barreto. In the strip, the Phantom was 21st in a line of crime-fighters which began in 1536, when the father of British sailor Christopher Walker was killed during a pirate attack. Swearing an oath on the skull of his father's murderer to fight evil, Christopher began a legacy of the Phantom which would pass from father to son. Nicknames for the Phantom include "The Ghost Who Walks", "Guardian of the Eastern Dark" and "The Man Who Cannot Die".

His parents are both of Greek descent (from Chios through his mother and Mani through his father), and his family's original surname, "Zanetakos" (Greek: Ζανετάκος), was anglicized to "Zane" by his parents, who also raised him Greek Orthodox. He has an older sister, Lisa Zane, who is an actress and singer.

Revolution CEO Steve Case said onstage at our Code Conference that we should look closer at where venture capital money is going — not to what startups, but to what states. The investor and former CEO of AOL said 75 percent of VC money went to only three states last year, leaving the remaining 47 to compete for the 25 percent of funds remaining. “So this feeling people have of being left out and left behind, it’s because they have been left out and left behind,” said Case. — Subscribe: https://goo.gl/FRleYo Check out our full video catalog: https://goo.gl/JeqE6e Follow Recode on Twitter: https://goo.gl/n4jVhu Follow Recode on Instagram: https://goo.gl/k8KXjH Read more: http://recode.net/
Gary Falk is an audacious, outspoken, funny, over-poster to various groups. We talk about his experience with Candice O'Denver's group which he both highly recommends and also criticizes. We talk about searching, calling off the search, enlightenment, and living life. We also cover assorted mishegas. This was a fun conversation. Life-like, a place to live and clothes wear
Life-like, starting here and ending there
Life-like, maximising time and space
Life-like, a happy smile upon my face
All this and so much more
Light floods the open door
Blood抯 rushing to my head
I抦 standing on the edge of
Life-like, crawling up out of the slime
Life-like, standing in the check out line
Life-like, eyeing all the pretty girls
Life-like, dreaming of another world
Where are my freinds today?
What gannes shall we play?
In their hearts I can't see
Nothing looks back at me but life-Iike
A million souls await the call to rise and sing
They stand and fall while in the clouds the angels count the myriad things
Divinity and grace have etched like lines face of God
But here it's very odd
His miracles abound but they arg drown sound of tapping fingers
Life-like, a face for every double take
Life-like, the genuine, original fake
Life-like, in the lies you tell to me
Life-like, a reasonable facsimile
Open your hand to me
In your palm I can read
Long life and happiness
It's just like all the rest, it's life-like life
In the morning I walk beneath a shining
My steps reverberate in beat with the m humanity
Those murmuts fill my ears but the voice never heaf
As I walk along that busy street and though there抯 nothing to seek
