WBZA
WBZA is a rock station in Rochester, New York, broadcasting at 98.9 FM. It is owned by Entercom Communications, who purchased the station from Sinclair Broadcasting in 1999. Before its current format, the station played Oldies as WBBF (and before that, WKLX) before that station moved to a lower-powered station broadcasting on 93.3 FM. The station's studios are located at High Falls Studios downtown, and its transmitter tower is on Rochester's west side.
The station is best known for their former controversial morning show The Breakfast Buzz with Kimberly and Beck. The two were together for nearly 10 years. Scott Spezzano and Sandy Waters moved over from sister station WPXY-FM their home of over 25 years to host the new Breakfast Buzz with Spezzano and Sandy Chris Konya produces the show which began on September 12, 2014 with a special dual simulcast on WPXY.
Niki Reed is their midday jock Monday-Friday 10am-3pm ; prior to her, it was Justine formerly of and now back at WBEE-FM and before her it was Pete "The Mayor" Kennedy. He worked as WPXY-FM for over 20 years. He is now at WAIO.
WWPW
WWPW FM 96.1 — branded Power 96-1 — is a commercial top-40 (CHR) radio station licensed to Atlanta, Georgia. Owned by iHeartMedia, the station serves the Atlanta metropolitan area. Besides a standard analog transmission, WWPW broadcasts over three HD Radio channels, and is available online via iHeartRadio. The station operates from studios located at the Peachtree Palisades building in the Brookwood Hills district of Atlanta.
The station transmits from the west tower at the North Druid Hills site along Briarcliff Road, just west of Emory University and Clifton Road. According to FCC records for coordinates and height, it shares its main radio antenna with WUBL FM 94.9, and WWPW's low-power backup antenna about 25 meters (82 ft) lower is also the backup for WYAY FM 106.7. The main WWPW/WUBL antenna has a permit to move to the east tower. There are also several other stations on these towers.
History
The 96.1 frequency was originally WGAA-FM in Cedartown, Georgia, the FM counterpart to WGAA AM 1340. WKLS's callsign stands for the initials of the founding owners: Don Kennedy, James Lathom, and Arthur Swan ("K", "L", and "S"). They formed the station in 1960 with a $25,000 investment, selling it ten years later for $750,000.
WZBZ
WZBZ is a radio station also known as "99.3 The Buzz" in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The station plays a Rhythmic Contemporary format. Its studios are located at the Bayport One complex in West Atlantic City, and its transmitter is located north of the Casino district in Atlantic City.
History
WZBZ's initial sign on was in 1974 as WGRF, an adult contemporary station and sister station to 1340 AM, WMID. WGRF was branded as Stereo 99. Together, WGRF and WMID were referred to as "The Dynamic Duo"; WMID was "The Jersey Giant" and WGRF was "The Jersey Mermaid." In 1983, WGRF became WLQE, a soft Adult Contemporary station branded as Lucky 99. In 1988, the Lucky 99 moniker was dropped and the call letters were switched to the FM version of its sister's call letters, becoming WMID-FM. The station continued with an Adult Contemporary format for another year and a half before switching to classic rock branded as "MID Rocks." In 1995, sister station 102.3 WSJL began simulcasting WMID-FM. This format would last seven years, until it became a smooth jazz station with the call letters WSAX in 1997. WSJL continued simulcasting 99.3 as 102.3 WJSX.
