Henan (Chinese: 河南) is a province of the People's Republic of China, located in the central part of the country. Its one-character abbreviation is "豫" (yù), named after Yuzhou (豫州; Yùzhōu), a Han Dynasty state (zhou) that included parts of Henan. Although the name of the province (河南) means "south of the river", approximately a quarter of the province lies north of the Yellow River, also known as the "Huang He".
Henan is often referred to as Zhongyuan or Zhongzhou (中州) which literally means "central plain land" or "midland", although the name is also applied to the entirety of China proper. Henan is the birthplace of Chinese civilization with over 3,000 years of recorded history, and remained China's cultural, economical, and political center until approximately 1,000 years ago. Numerous heritages have been left behind including the ruins of Shang Dynasty capital city Yin and the Shaolin Temple. Four of the Eight Great Ancient Capitals of China, Luoyang, Anyang, Kaifeng, and Zhengzhou are located in Henan.
Douglas Gordon Lilburn ONZ (2 November 1915 – 6 June 2001) was a New Zealand composer.
Lilburn was born in Whanganui and spent his early years on the family farm in the upper Turakina River valley at Drysdale. He attended Waitaki Boys' High School from 1930 to 1933, before moving to Christchurch to study journalism and music at Canterbury University College (then part of the University of New Zealand) (1934–36). In 1937 he began studying at the Royal College of Music, London. He was tutored in composition by Ralph Vaughan Williams and remained at the College until 1939. The two men remained close: in later years Lilburn would send Vaughan Williams gifts of New Zealand honey, knowing that the older man was fond of it.
Lilburn returned to New Zealand in 1940 and served as guest conductor in Wellington for three months with the NBS String Orchestra. He shifted to Christchurch in 1941 and worked as a freelance composer and teacher until 1947. Between 1946 and 1949 and again in 1951, Lilburn was Composer-in-Residence at the Cambridge Summer Music Schools.

China has seen increasingly violent incidents towards doctors in recent years. 90% of hospitals in central China’s Henan Province have now set up independent police service rooms to protect doctors and nurses from attacks by patients’ relatives, outraged over the cost and quality of care.

Perhaps no musical instrument is more evocative of China than the erhu (二胡), but its origins are in central Asia: The erhu is one of several instruments historically known as "huqin" (barbarian's fiddle). In this video, Liu Hong (刘虹) introduces the erhu and plays the classic folk tune "Running River" (江河水). See http://www.danwei.com/the-erhu for more.
Third clip from this unknown (to me) show. The shamisen is played with powerful accompanyment from a taiko drummer. Forgive me for not sharing the artists names, I am relatively new to the Japanese language, let alone 漢字 (Kanji). I hope I spelled that right :D

Streets of Lhasa Streets of Lhasa lifts us to the high plateau of Tibet where anonymous street balladeers sell folk songs for a living and ghostly voices drift in an ambience of time forgotten. Children, birds, trains, prayers and a traditional temple activity called "bian jing" (where monks discourse about scripture and punctuate their points by clapping loudly) provide the backdrop for this disc with the folk music of the street taking center stage. These enterprising musicians sing passionate songs and play instruments like the Erhu and the San Xian. The recordings are as clear as the strings of these banjo and violin-like instruments scathed by leather fingers of the high, thin air. Tibet has been under Chinese control for nearly half a century and their leader, The Dalai Lama, res...

Today Lucas is your Tour Guide and he welcomes you to visit Shaolin Temple in Henan Province, China. Shaolin Temple was founded by abbot Batuo in Dengfeng County, who came to China from India[2] in 464 AD to spread Buddhist teachings. Shaolin Monastery is the main temple of the Shaolin school of Buddhism to this day. Shaolin temple is also a birthplace of Chinese Kung Fu also called Shaolin Wushu and several martial arts schools are present today around the temple. The name Shaolin refers to the forests of Shaoshi (少室; Shǎo Shì) mountain, one of the seven peaks of Song mountains. The Shaolin monks have made some fame for themselves through their fighting skills and holes in trees made by their finger pokes are still visible to eyes of visitors. According to legend, Shaolin monastery was...

Henan Opera came into being during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Formerly, it was called Henan bangzi. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Henan is called Yu for short. Thus, Henan Opera is called Yuju Opera. Henan Opera is one of China's famous national opera forms together with Peking Opera and Pingju Opera. As its name indicates, Henan Province is the home to Henan Opera. Here you can see the Luoyang locals singing Henan Opera at the Luoyang Youth Palace Square.
Kaifeng is known previously by several names, is a prefecture-level city in east-central Henan province, Central China. Kaifeng is one of the Seven Ancient Capitals of China. As with Beijing, there have been many reconstructions during its history. http://www.tourdechina.cn/ChinaGuide/henan/Facts.html
