Vincent "Vinnie" Colaiuta (born February 5, 1956) is an American drummer based in Los Angeles. Originally from Republic, Pennsylvania, he began playing drums as a child and received his first full drum kit from his parents at the age of fourteen. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1996.
After attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston for a year, Colaiuta had his first big break as a member of the Christopher Morris Band in 1976–77. In 1977, he relocated with the band to Los Angeles. After leaving the band, he played with lounge bands. His next break came in April 1978, after auditioning for Frank Zappa. The audition entailed performing "The Black Page". Colaiuta went on to work with Zappa as his principal drummer for studio and live performances. He played on the successful Zappa albums Tinsel Town Rebellion, Joe's Garage, and Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar. Joe's Garage was named one of the top-25 drumming performances of all time in a 1993 Modern Drummer article.

In 2010, Garrison toured with R&B singer Whitney Houston during her Nothing but Love World Tour.
The son of bassist Jimmy Garrison and modern dancer Roberta Escamilla Garrison, Matthew spent much of his childhood in Italy. In 1988, he returned to the States to live with his godfather, Jack DeJohnette, with whom he plays. In 1989, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston on a full scholarship, and began to play professionally. In 1994, he moved to New York City and played with Joe Zawinul, Ornette Coleman, John McLaughlin and John Scofield.

In this episode, Filmmaker Matthew McLaughlin talks about identity and masculinity. Born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, Matthew McLaughlin learned early on that his strengths lied in the arts and the creation process. After attending the University of Guelph where he majored in theatre studies, and minored in studio arts, Matthew ventured to Toronto and landed his first job with a television production company. It was there that he learned the inner workings of the television industry. After being encouraged to attend development meetings and being coached on the pitching process, Matthew began writing concepts of his own. With great guidance and encouragement from others, Matthew stepped into the director’s chair, making his ideas come to life in a moving frame. In 2010 Matthew started...

I talk about the Charlotte shooting dominating national news, Matt McLaughlin that keeps creeping into Californian state news and I talk about two local incidents talked about in the regional news. For many young people, summer in the suburbs is its own little universe. During this precious chunk of time off from school, adults are often out of sight, even further out of mind, and friends become the most important people on the planet. As you skate, swim, or chill through the days, there’s the opportunity of getting to know your pals — and yourself — better than ever. That’s the journey Summer ’17, a new short film by Illegal Civilization and The FADER, captures. Shot on location in North Hollywood and Burbank, California, Summer ’17 follows Jeffery, played by Ryder McLaughlin, as he tries to win over a summer crush. Produced by Malcolm Washington, directed by Illegal Civ’s Mikey Alfred, and shot by Ayinde Anderson, the film had a lot of young, black creatives who worked behind the...

Four long years had passed since McLaughlin's last record when JMT released Live at the Royal Festival Hall in 1990. The brilliant percussionist Trilok Gurtu, of Oregon fame, joined him—along with superb bassist Kai Eckhardt—to form an exciting band which was to exist in one form or another (with revolving bassists) for five more years. The mostly acoustic music which fills this album, augmented by electric bass and John's guitar synthesizer, is a mix of standard jazz, fusion and Indian-influenced rhythms and melody lines. Personnel: John McLaughlin - Guitar Trilok Gurtu - Percussion Kai Eckhardt - Fretless Bass
