Rohtak district is one of the 21 districts of Haryana state in Northern India. It is located in the southeast of Haryana and northwest of Delhi, bounded by Jind and Sonipat districts to the north, Jhajjar and Sonipat districts to the east, and Hissar, Sirsa, and Bhiwani districts to the west. Rohtak city is the district headquarters.
Quilla Road is an upmarket place near the old walled city, where people come from all parts of the city and surrounding towns.
The district consists of two sub-divisions, Rohtak and Meham. Rohtak tehsil is further divided into three community development blocks - Rohtak, Kalanaur and Sampla. Meham tehsil is further divided into two community development blocks, Meham and Lakhan-Majra.
The economy of the district is primarily agriculture. About 42.19% of the total workers are engaged in agriculture and allied activities, 7.68% in cottage and household industries and the rest are engaged in other activities.
The Japanese township is planned to be set up near Madina village, 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Rohtak city ashoka, along NH10 towards Meham. It will include several big industries and commercial offices.
Rohtak ( listen ) is a city and the administrative headquarters of the Rohtak district in the Indian state of Haryana. It lies 70 kilometres (43 mi) north west of New Delhi and 250 kilometres (160 mi) south of the state capital Chandigarh on NH 10. Rohtak forms a part of the National Capital Region (NCR), which provides immediate benefits for the district as it can secure loans for infrastructure development at cheaper rates from the NCR Planning Board (NCRPB).
Rohtak is the sixth most populous city in Haryana as per the 2011 census with population of 3,74,292 and has literacy rate of 84.08.
It is believed that the city's name is of Indo-Aryan origin and is recorded in the Vedas. It was founded by a Rajput king named Raja Rohtash Singh Parmar, and was named Rohtashgarh. Subsequently the evolution of the named is traced as "Rohītaka-kula > Rohitaka > Rohtak" and Michael Witzel notes that this accords with the place existing around 500 BC. The same source also suggests that the name may have derived from the tree Rohitaka as well, a tree well known in the area for its superb timber.

It is located 70 km northwest of New Delhi and 250 km south of the state capital Chandigarh at the NH 10. Rohtak forms a part of National Capital Region.Rohtak is also fast emerging as the industrial city of Haryana. Rohtak is connected to seven cities by three national highways (NH10, NH71, and NH71A) and two State Highways (SH16 and SH18). National Highway 10 from New Delhi to Rohtak is being upgraded to six lanes with 30 km Rohtak City Bypass, so that the vehicles traveling between New Delhi and Hissar do not have to enter Rohtak city. National Highway 10 from Rohtak to Hissar and several cities of Punjab is being widened to a four-lane highway

Violence continued unabated in Haryana on Monday with stone-pelting mobs attacking security personnel trying to clear a road blockade triggering a clash in which three civilians were killed raising the death toll to 19 in the nine-day old stir.
