Rev. John Henry Giere, Jr., 83, passed at 12:45 p.m. on
February 10,
2011.
He was born
November 4,
1927 in
Rosebud, Texas, the first son of John Henry Giere, Sr. and Addie
Lucille Preston Giere.
An evangelist, pastor and
Bible teacher, he was ordained by the
General Council of the
Assemblies of God in 1949. Over the course of his ministry he pastored
Texas churches in
San Benito,
Taylor, Hamilton,
Fairfield and
Houston, including the
Fontaine and Fonwood
Assembly of God which eventually merged with and became a part of
First Assembly of God—
Spring, Texas and retired permanent pastoral ministry as
Senior Pastor of
First Assembly in 1978.
In his retirement, more active than ever, he traveled in missionary endeavors to the
American Indian Bible Institute,
Arizona, to the international
Correspondence Institute,
Belgium and separate missionary outreaches in
Africa and
Paraguay,
South America. In addition, and from time to time, he served as interim pastor at churches in
Corpus Christi,
Waco,
Bloomington and
Boerne, Texas and served as the assigned pastor of the
Decade of
Harvest church in
Lumberton, Texas.
Finally he became the
Southwest Regional Director of the RV
Maps Program of the
Home Missions
Department of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, coordinating and overseeing over fiy (50)
church construction projects. He is currently "on the road again", this time walking down "yellow rocky roads" we have yet to travel.
He is preceded in death by his parents,
John H. Giere, Sr. and Addie Lucille Giere, his brother-in-law,
Robert Edward McWha, Sr., his sister-in-law,
Frances Wynell Giere, his granddaughter,Haley
Nicole Giere, his niece,
Karen Faith Giere, and his nephews, Boyd
Burnett Giere, Jr. and
William Wayne McWha. He is survived by his loving wife and partner in ministry for 63 years,

George Wesley Giere and his wife,
Joan Giere of Driwood, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly, and a host of friends.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of
God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God ~ this is your spiritual act of worship.
