Aliya Fargatovna Mustafina (Russian: Алия́ Фарга́товна Муста́фина, Tatar: Cyrillic Алия Фәрһәт кызы Мостафина, Latin Aliä Färhät qızı Mostafina; born 30 September 1994) is a Russian artistic gymnast. She is the 2010 World individual all-around champion, the 2015 European Games individual all-around champion and the 2013 Universiade individual all-around champion. She is also the 2012 Olympic uneven bars champion, the 2013 World balance beam champion and the 2013 European champion in the all-around and on the uneven bars.
Mustafina represented Russia at the 2012 Summer Olympics where she was the most decorated gymnast (and athlete in general, save for swimmers), male or female, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, having won four medals including the silver in the team all-around, the bronze in the individual all-around final, the gold in the uneven bars final, and the bronze in the floor final.
Aliya Mustafina was born on 30 September 1994 in Yegoryevsk, Russia into a middle-class family. Her father, Farhat Mustafin, an ethnic Tatar, was a bronze medalist at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Greco-Roman wrestling, and her mother, Yelena Mustafina, née Kuznetsova, an ethnic Russian, is a physics teacher. Her younger sister, Nailya, is also a gymnast and a former member of Russia's junior national team.
Artistic gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics where gymnasts perform short routines (ranging from approximately 30 to 90 seconds) on different apparatus, with less time for vaulting (see lists below). The sport is governed by the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), which designs the Code of Points and regulates all aspects of international elite competition. Within individual countries, gymnastics is regulated by national federations, such as BAGA in Great Britain and USA Gymnastics in the United States. Artistic gymnastics is a popular spectator sport at the Summer Olympic Games and in numerous other competitive environments.
The gymnastic system was mentioned in works by ancient authors, such as Homer, Aristotle and Plato. It included many disciplines, which would later become separate sports: swimming, race, wrestling, boxing, riding, etc. and was also used for military training. In its present form gymnastics evolved in Germany and Bohemia in the beginning of the 19th century, and the term "artistic gymnastics" was introduced at the same time to distinguish free styles from the ones used by the military. A German educator Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, who was known as the father of gymnastics, invented several apparatus, including the horizontal bar and parallel bars which are used to this day. Two of the first gymnastics clubs were Turnvereins and Sokols.
Trans World Sport is a sports-related television programme produced by IMG Media in London and shown worldwide on a variety of television channels. It is world’s longest running weekly international television sports programme and has been in continuous production every week since 5 May 1987. Today, it is shown over 50 countries with a household reach of nearly 200 million. For over 25 years, they have endeavoured to bring not only the top names and events, but also the off-beat and esoteric stories from the world of sport.
The show was the brainchild of IMG founder, and sports marketing pioneer, Mark McCormack. Since its very first show, Trans World Sport's objective has remained the same; to bring its viewers the best, the most interesting and most informative stories from the world of sport. Their mantra has always been that there is no hierarchy in sport, and the idea is that what happens in La Liga has always been as important as what happens at the Sepak Takraw World Championship. They've had features on several sports stars including a 14-year-old Tiger Woods, a teenage Usain Bolt and Roger Federer, and on an 12-year-old Venus Williams and her 11-year-old sister, Serena Williams.
The 2016 Summer Olympics (Portuguese: Jogos Olímpicos de Verão de 2016), officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, and commonly known as Rio 2016, are a major international multi-sport event that will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to August 21, 2016. Record numbers of countries and sets of medals are awaiting in the games. More than 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), including from Kosovo and South Sudan for the first time, will take part in this sporting event. With 306 sets of medals, the games will feature 28 Olympic sports — including rugby sevens and golf, which were added by the International Olympic Committee in 2009. These sporting events will take place on 33 venues in the host city and additionally on 5 venues in the cities of São Paulo (Brazil's largest city), Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Brasília (Brazil's capital), and Manaus.
The host city of Rio de Janeiro was announced at the 121st IOC Session held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 2 October 2009. The other finalists were Madrid, Spain; Chicago, United States; and Tokyo, Japan. Rio will become the first South American city to host the Summer Olympics, the second city in Latin America to host the event after Mexico City in 1968, and the first since 2000 in the Southern Hemisphere. This will be the third time the Summer Olympics are held in a developing country, after the 1968 Games in Mexico and the 1988 Games in South Korea.
