Brian Christopher Zimmerman (August 20, 1972 – September 20, 1996) was an American politician who in 1983, at the age of 11, was elected mayor of the community of Crabb, Texas. He won by a landslide, garnering 23 of the 30 votes cast. His stated goal as mayor was to incorporate the unincorporated community of approximately 200 people to avoid annexation by neighboring cities such as Houston.
His sole campaign promise led to a "hard fought" incorporation battle, because many residents feared that incorporation would result in higher taxes. However, Mayor Zimmerman held that an impending annexation would result in even higher taxes than incorporation, which instead would give the town some control over tax rates. The other major issue was that incorporation would force him out of his position as mayor, since Texas law stated that mayors of incorporated communities had to be at least 18 years of age.
He nonetheless supported a referendum to incorporate the community, stating "The mayor isn't there to sit and worry about keeping his job. He's there to do what's best for the people." Zimmerman's incorporation bid was ultimately unsuccessful, but he was reelected as mayor following the referendum. During his first two years in office, he reportedly had one of Crabb's roads paved. His unique mayorship garnered considerable attention - "worldwide" according to the Texas Almanac - that included articles in People magazine and the New York Times. In 1988, his story was chronicled in a made for TV movie called "Lone Star Kid".
A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. Although no consensus exists as to where that boundary is drawn, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". The term featurette originally applied to a film longer than a short subject, but shorter than a standard feature film.
The increasingly rare term short subject means approximately the same thing. An industry term, it carries more of an assumption that the film is shown as part of a presentation along with a feature film. Short is an abbreviation for either term. Short films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals and made by independent filmmakers for non profit, either with a low budget or no budget at all. They are usually funded by film grants, non profit organizations, sponsor, or personal funds. Short films are generally used by filmmakers to gain experience and/or prove their talent in order to gain funding for future films from private investors, entertainment companies, or film studios.
"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either passively, openly or via sabotage.
As a phrase meaning "the boss" it dates from at least 1918.
In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.
The use of this term was expanded to counterculture groups and their battles against authority, such as the Yippies, which, according to a May 19, 1969 article in U.S. News and World Report, had the "avowed aim ... to destroy 'The Man', their term for the present system of government". The term eventually found its way into humorous usage, such as in a December 1979 motorcycle ad from the magazine Easyriders which featured the tagline, "California residents: Add 6% sales tax for The Man."

What do you do at the end of your day? This is a short film some friends and I made way back in the year called 2006 during one of those "create an entire film from scratch in 36 hours" competitions. You're given a genre, line of dialogue and prop you must use. The only thing we added after the event was original music (instead of stock) that my friend Pedro was kind enough to compose. Everything else was done in a day and a half. If you're into filmmaking and haven't done a weekend film contest, I highly recommend you do at least one as you'll be surprised at what you can learn under that sort of pressure. Extra credit to those that can spot the prop. Written, Produced and Performed by: John Atkinson Matthew Biggers Daniel Green Melissa Gruver Jimmy Huckaby Rob McNal...
Now available for streaming on Amazon Prime. The movie is in color (as the end of the trailer points out), but the black and white worked more for the retro feel we were going for with this particular version. There were a lot of drive-in, sci-fi influences when making this movie. From old serials all the way up to the big monster movies of the 80s.

Two of our actresses were staying at a second location for "Lumber vs Jack" and we sent them home with a camera each night so they could keep a diary of sorts. Night one seems to consist mostly of baked ziti and reflections about how dangerous the set was.
