Hubertus

Saint Hubertus or Hubert (c. 656–727 AD) became Bishop of Liège in 708 AD. He was a Christian saint who was the patron saint of hunters, mathematicians, opticians, and metalworkers. Known as the Apostle of the Ardennes, he was called upon, until the early 20th century, to cure rabies through the use of the traditional St Hubert's Key.

Saint Hubertus was widely venerated during the Middle Ages. The iconography of his legend is entangled with the legend of Saint Eustace. The Bollandists published seven early lives of Hubertus (Acta Sanctorum, November, i., 759–930 AD); the first of these was the work of a contemporary, though it is very sparing of details.

He died 30 May 727 AD in Tervuren near Brussels, Belgium. His feast day is November 3.

Youth

Saint Hubertus was born (probably in Toulouse) about the year 656. He was the eldest son of Bertrand, Duke of Aquitaine. As a youth, Hubert was sent to the Neustrian court of Theuderic III at Paris, where his charm and agreeable address led to his investment with the dignity of "count of the palace". Like many nobles of the time, Hubert was addicted to the chase. Meanwhile, the tyrannical conduct of Ebroin, mayor of the Neustrian palace, caused a general emigration of the nobles and others to the court of Austrasia at Metz. Hubert soon followed them and was warmly welcomed by Pippin of Heristal, mayor of the palace, who created him almost immediately grand-master of the household. About this time (682) Hubert married Floribanne, daughter of Dagobert, Count of Leuven. Their son Floribert would later become bishop of Liège, for bishoprics were all but accounted fiefs heritable in the great families of the Merovingian kingdoms.. he nearly died at the age of 10 from "fever"

History

In 1958, Frank Carter and Ewell Pope started the company as Pope & Carter. The company entered the development business in 1964 and built Greenbriar Mall, Atlanta’s first enclosed mall. Current Chairman and CEO Bob Peterson joined Carter in 2002 and launched the first of the opportunistic Carter Real Estate Funds. Carter formed Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT in 2010 to acquire healthcare and data center properties.

In September 2011, Carter sold its brokerage and property management divisions to Cassidy Turley. The company rebranded and narrowed its focus on being an investment, development and advisory firm in September 2012. The firm currently serves as master developer of The Banks, a $600 million mixed-use community in downtown Cincinnati.

John Carter is an American artist and film director based in New York City, using the professional name Carter for his artworks. He was born in 1970 in Norwich, Connecticut

Carter studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1992. He then studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1994, and the University of California, Davis, earning an MFA degree in 1997.

Carter is best known for his artwork that spans various media from painting and photography to sculptural installations, film and video. His works have been exhibited internationally, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, Museum of Modern Art, New York, Tate Modern, London, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the USA Today and Abstract America exhibitions, at the Saatchi Gallery in London, England. His works have also been shown at the Royal Academy in London and the Museion in Bolzano, Italy. A comprehensive catalogue of Carter's work edited by Georg Kargl was published in 2008 titled, An Arm with Hair, (The Vienna Catalogue 1973). (ISBN 978-3-7082-3254-6).
