Michael Kahn celebrates his 75th birthday with three new films coming out this year coming out of his cutting room. Associated with Steven Spielberg since the started working together on Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1976, Kahn has taken home 3 Oscars and a parade of other awards an nominations. He & Spielberg are known as the last converts to digital editing and just this last year Kahn gave up his Moviola for an Avid as Spielberg directed his first digital movie, The Adventures of Tintin. Kahn is receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Association of Cinema Editors this year.

“Saving Private Ryan” is a 1998 American epic war film set during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II. Directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Robert Rodat, the film is notable for its graphic and realistic portrayal of war, and for the intensity of its opening 27 minutes, which depict the Omaha Beachassault of June 6, 1944. It follows United States Army Rangers Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) and a squad (Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Barry Pepper, Vin Diesel, Giovanni Ribisi, Adam Goldberg and Jeremy Davies) as they search for a paratrooper, Private First Class James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon), who is the last-surviving brother of four servicemen.

"Jurassic Park" is an American media franchise consisting of novels, films, comics, and video games centering on a disastrous attempt to create a theme park of cloned dinosaurs. It began in 1990 when Universal Studios bought the rights to the novel by Michael Crichton before it was even published.
When an incident results in the death of an employee, Jurassic Park owner John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) brings in three specialists to sign off on the park to calm investors. The specialists, paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill), paleobotanist Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and chaos theorist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), are surprised to see the island park's main attraction are living, breathing dinosaurs, created with a mixture of fossilized DNA and genetic cross-breeding/cloning. However, when lead programmer Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) shuts down the park's power to sneak out with samples of the dinosaur embryos to sell to a corporate rival, the dinosaurs break free, and the survivors are forced to find a way to turn the power back on and make it out alive. The film also stars Bob Peck, Martin Ferrero, Ariana Richards, Joseph Mazzello, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Rick Carter
Rick Carter (born 1952) is an American production designer and art director. He is known for his work in the film Forrest Gump, which earned him an Oscar nomination, as well as numerous nominations of other awards for his work in Amistad and A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Other films include Cast Away, War of the Worlds, What Lies Beneath, Jurassic Park, Avatar, and Back to the Future Part II and Part III. Many of the films that he has worked on are directed by Steven Spielberg or Robert Zemeckis. For his part in the Art Direction of Avatar, he was awarded the Academy Award for Best Art Direction alongside Robert Stromberg and Kim Sinclair. In 2013, Carter won his second Academy Award, for production design on Steven Spielberg's biopic, Lincoln.

“Raiders of the Lost Ark” (later marketed as “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” and often referred to simply as “Raiders”) is a 1981 American fantasy adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg. He has also received nominations for "Lincoln," "Munich," "Fatal Attraction" (for which he won a British Academy Award), "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Empire of the Sun.' Kahn has worked on a wide variety of films, including "Jurassic Park," "Amistad," "War Horse," "Alive," "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," "Minority Report," 'The Color Purple," "The Goonies," "Poltergeist, War of the Worlds," and "The Adventures of Tin Tin." He also won an Emmy for his work on the miniseries "Eleanor and Franklin." Up until his last few projects, Michael was one of the last editors to consistently use actual film to edit when he collaborated with Spielberg. "Jurassic Park" is an American media franchise consisting of novels, films, comics, and video games centering on a disastrous attempt to create a theme park of cloned dinosaurs. It began in 1990 when Universal Studios bought the rights to the novel by Michael Crichton before it was even published.
When an incident results in the death of an employee, Jurassic Park owner John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) brings in three specialists to sign off on the park to calm investors. The specialists, paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill), paleobotanist Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and chaos theorist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), are surprised to see the island park's main attraction are living, breathing dinosaurs, created with a mixture of fossilized DNA and genetic cross-breeding/cloning. However, when lead programmer Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) shuts down the park's power to sneak out with samples of the dinosaur embryos to sell to a corporate rival, the dinosaurs break free, and the survivors are forced to find a way to turn the power back on and make it out alive. The film also stars Bob Peck, Martin Ferrero, Ariana Richards, Joseph Mazzello, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Alabama Music Office.com goes to Workplay in Birmingham, Alabama to attend a performance by Telluride for the annual Rick Carter Birthday Bash. This is a can't miss party that many plan for a year in advance. Telluride is a Birmingham-based rock band founded in 1977 by guitarists Moose Harrell and Rick Carter with keyboardist Roger Bailey, drummer Robert Churchill, and bassist Jim Liner. The group started out playing country-tinged rock, but soon focused on rock. Bailey and Liner left not long afterward and were replaced by Kevin Derryberry and Scott Walker. Other some-time members included Kent Peterson, Barry Waldrip, Joe Breckinridge and Chip Snow. The band was in heavy rotation in the Southeastern US during the late 70s and early 80s. Rick Carter Tribute May 27 2016
Rick Carter was a music lover and friend of Vintage Sound 93.1 FM radio in Muscatine, Iowa. Rick passed away after a battle with cancer. When I found out I knew I had to pay him a tribute on-air at the start of my morning show. Working in a small community puts you in people's lives sometimes on a daily basis. I never take that for granted. I enjoy getting to know folks that will call-in on a regular basis. I know their story, work, family, joy, pain, struggles and of course, what type of music they like. Rick had made several request phone calls over the years and our paths crossed a few times. RIP to Rick, thank you for always bringing me great music! To mask the proceeds of his drug operation, Rick invested millions in local businesses which served as drop off and pick up points for his runners. Everything was going smoothly until the day Carter and Edward Hanserd had a heated argument over a debt Edward owed to Carter. The two would face off numerous times with gunfire but on Sept. 12, 1989 outside of one of Rick's businesses Carter was shot in the stomach leaving Rick hospitalized and Rick left one of Edward's solider slightly wounded.

They performed at the 1990 and 1997 City Stages. They were invited to perform at two Alabama gubernatorial inaugurations, and have been named musical achievers by the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, a precursor to being inducted into the hall.
A version of Telluride came together to perform at the Alabama Theatre for PhillipsFest in 2005. Carter, Harrell, Bailey, Churchill and Breckinridge put together a reunion tour in 2008, performing at WorkPlay and at that year's City Stages.
Carter, as a co-founder of the group, holds the federal trade mark on the name "Telluride". In 2010 it was announced that he was in a legal battle over the name with the record label of a Nashville-based country band which has scored success on the country charts.

It appears an American satellite has found the likely spot where Europe’s Schiaparelli probe hit the surface of Mars on Wednesday, BBC News reported Friday. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has identified a large dark patch in the robot's targeted landing zone consistent with a high-velocity impact. Schiaparelli is widely thought to have crashed and been destroyed....
