Tarragona (English /ˌtɑːrəˈɡoʊnə/, Catalan: [tərəˈɣonə], Spanish: [taraˈɣona]; Phoenician: טַרְקוֹן, Tarqon; Latin: Tarraco) is a port city located in the north-east of Spain on the Mediterranean Sea. It is the capital of the Tarragona province, and part of the Tarragonès county and Catalonia region. Geographically, it is bordered on the north by the province of Barcelona and the province of Lleida. The city has a population of 132,199 (2014).
One Catalan legend holds that it was named for Tarraho, eldest son of Tubal in c. 2407 BC; another (derived from Strabo and Megasthenes) attributes the name to 'Tearcon the Ethiopian', a 7th-century BC pharaoh who supposedly campaigned in Spain. The real founding date of Tarragona is unknown.
The city may have begun as an Iberic town called Kesse or Kosse, named for the Iberic tribe of the region, the Cossetans, though the identification of Tarragona with Kesse is not certain.Smith suggests that the city was probably founded by the Phoenicians, who called it Tarchon, which, according to Samuel Bochart, means a citadel. This name was probably derived from its situation on a high rock, between 75–90 m (250–300 ft) above the sea; whence we find it characterised as arce potens Tarraco. It was seated on the river Sulcis or Tulcis (modern Francolí), on a bay of the Mare Internum (Mediterranean), between the Pyrenees and the river Iberus (modern Ebro).Livy mentions a portus Tarraconis; and according to Eratosthenes it had a naval station or roads (Ναύσταθμον); but Artemidorus says with more probability that it had none, and scarcely even an anchoring place; and Strabo himself calls it ἀλίμενος. This better reflects its present condition; for though a mole was constructed in the 15th century with the materials of the ancient amphitheatre, and another subsequently by an Englishman named John Smith, it still affords but little protection for shipping.
San Juan [saŋ ˈxwan] is Spanish for Saint John. It can also be the short version of San Juan Bautista (John the Baptist). In English, the name most commonly refers to the Puerto Rico's capital city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, or to the various professional sports teams that represent the city. Other topics that share the name include:
La Doña is the eleventh album by Teena Marie, released in 2004 on the Cash Money label.

The album peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200, Marie's highest placing (and first top 20 entry) on that chart. It also reached #3 on the R&B Albums chart.
The lead-off single "Still in Love" (which samples Al Green's 1972 track "What a Wonderful Thing Love Is") was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005 in the category Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

Lloret de Mar has a coastal Mediterranean climate, with temperatures always much softer due to thermal effect moderator of the sea. Nevertheless, it should be taken into account that the Mediterranean is a warm sea all year round, which means that the characteristic moderation of temperatures is more noticeable in winter than in summer. The summer dry period normally lasts three months and the maximum rainfall occurs in the autumn months.
Lleida (Catalan: [ˈʎɛjðə], locally: [ˈʎejðɛ]; Spanish: Lérida [ˈleɾiða]) is a city in the west of Catalonia, Spain, capital city of the province of Lleida.
Geographically, it is located in the Catalan Central Depression. The metro area has about 250,000 inhabitants. It is also the capital city of the Segrià comarca, as well as the largest city in the province. It had 137,387 inhabitants as of 2010, including the contiguous municipalities of Raimat and Sucs.
Lleida is one of the oldest towns in Catalonia, with recorded settlements dating back to the Bronze Age period. Until the Roman conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, the area served as a settlement for an Iberian people, the Ilergetes. The town became a municipality, named Ilerda, under the reign of Augustus. It was reconquered in 1149, after being many centuries under the rule of the Moors, who had conquered the town in the 8th century. In 1297, the University of Lleida was founded, becoming the third oldest in the whole of Spain. During the following centuries, the town was damaged by several wars such as the Reapers' War in the 17th century and the Spanish Civil War in the 20th century. Since then, the city has been in a constant urban, commercial and demographic growth.

Built in Astorga, Spain. WIKI: The Episcopal Palace of Astorga, Spain is a building by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. It was built between 1889 and 1913. Designed in the Catalan Modernisme style, it is one of only three buildings by Gaudi outside Catalonia. History[edit] When the original Episcopal Palace was destroyed by a fire in the 19th century, Bishop Grau decided to assign the design of the new building to his friend Antoni Gaudí. The two had become friends when Grau was general vicar in the archdiocese of Tarragona and had inaugurated a church for which the architect had designed the high altar. When Gaudí received the commission, he was still working at the Palau Güell in Barcelona, and thus he could not move to Astorga to study the terrain and the area of the new construction. H...

At the beach of Lloret de Mar, a Woman sculpture on the rock leap to the eye. It is the seafarer woman. La Dona Marinera is a monument in honor of the women whose husbands emigrated to America in order to seek their fortune. Many of the emigrants or Indianos, as they are called here, returned home again and helped Lloret to get a certain prosperity. But it were the women who had to stick together the family in the meantime . The sculpture was created in 1969 by the Catalan sculptor Ernest Maragall i Noble. He was the son of the Catalan poet Joan Maragall, and in his youth a friend of Picasso. During the Spanish Civil War, he emigrated with his family to Venezuela, where he taught as an art professor. He also created sculptures for public spaces for other Catalan cities such as Barcelona an...

www.teletextholidays.co.uk - Spain's Costa Dorada (or Dourada) translates as the Gold Coast thanks to the sun-kissed beaches which skirt around more than 100 miles of coastline southwest of Barcelona. Salou is the region's primary resort, a haven for families with young children, and the epitome of the mass market tourism traditionally so popular with British holidaymakers. Away from the high-rise, however, the area's true culture and flavour remain intact. The Old World ornateness of towns like Tarragona and Sitges, the pine-scented hills of Sierra de Prades, and the vineyards of Penedes are all testament to this.
The creative spirit of Spain's Catalunya — the land of Picasso, Gaudí, and Salvador Dalí — is on a roll. We'll get caught up in the festivity of Barcelona, enjoying the vibrant street scenes, tasty tapas, and pedestrian-friendly Gothic Quarter. Then we'll take a scenic side trip to mountaintop Montserrat, and finish with an artist's pilgrimage along the Costa Brava to Salvador Dalí country. In seaside Cadaques, we'll visit Dalí's home, and in nearby Figueres, we'll experience his playfully surreal mausoleum/museum. © 2008 Rick Steves' Europe
