Chris Zane

Chris Zane is an American music producer, engineer and mixer based in New York City. He's worked with an array of artists such as The Walkmen, Holy Ghost!, Passion Pit and Friendly Fires.

Biography

Zane studied music most of his life, his principal instrument is the drums. He attended music school for a brief period before turning his focus to studio work. Whilst he still plays on the occasional project of which he's producing, his focus has become more centered on production and programming. Zane began his production career in 2000 in NYC recording bands including Ambulance Ltd, Calla, and Les Savy Fav. In 2008 he recorded and mixed The Walkmen's You & Me, produced a song on Tokyo Police Club's debut album Elephant Shell, and spent some time in Berlin producing UK rock band The Rakes' final album KLANG. In late fall of 2008 through early winter of 2009 he produced the critically acclaimed debut album Manners by Passion Pit. The last few years has seen him produce records for Holy Ghost!, Friendly Fires, New Zealand pop songstress Ruby Frost, and Devin. In 2012 Zane co-wrote and co-produced the song "Circles" with Michael Angelakos, for Nelly Furtado, as well as produced, mixed and played drums on, the highly anticipated sophomore album Gossamer by Passion Pit. Currently he has just finished producing the début album for Pacific Air, mixing an album for Australian band Jinja Safari, and producing some songs for UK pop singer Chlöe Howl.

Zane

Zane's Cycles

Zane's Cycles is a New England bicycle store located in Branford, Connecticut, started by Christopher J. Zane in October 1981, at the age of 16. Since then, the store has grown from a local bicycle and hobby shop, to the largest P&I (Premiums and Incentives) distributor of bicycles in the United States.

The story of Zane's growth from small shop owner to major distributor found its way into several major business publications and college courses on marketing. Inc. and Fortune magazines both wrote positively of his aggressive local strategies, labeling them in some cases as "guerrilla marketing". An example was his tactic of purchasing competitor's phone numbers after putting them out of business.

In another quite opposite strategy, his focus on establishing a bond with the customer through simple gestures—like selling children's helmets at dealer cost, and offering lifetime guarantees—was a topic in an article by the Harvard Business Review.

Christopher Zane authored Reinventing the Wheel, the science of creating lifetime customers, BenBella, 2011. The book is a case study of Zane's Cycle growth by continuously improving the customer experience and customer service. Passion Pit

Passion Pit is an American indietronica band from Cambridge, Massachusetts, formed in 2007. The band consists solely of Michael Angelakos (lead vocals/keyboards), joined live by Chris Hartz (drums), Aaron Harrison Folb (bass/synthesizers), Giuliano Pizzulo (guitar/synthesizers), and Ray Suen (guitar/synthesizers).

The band released their debut album Manners in 2009. A follow up album entitled Gossamer was released in 2012, which debuted at No. 4 on Billboard 200 and gave the band their first top 10 album. Kindred, the band's third album, was released on April 17, 2015 and was preceded by lead singles "Lifted Up (1985)", "Where the Sky Hangs", and "Until We Can't (Let's Go)".

History

Name

The band culled their name from the Variety Slanguage Dictionary, a glossary of Variety's frequently-used slang, which was provided by the Hollywood insider publication to help not-so-savvy readers decipher its content. The magazine used the term to refer to drive-in theatres, because of their privacy and romantic allure for teenagers.

Chris
