Best Actor is the name of an award which is presented by various film, television and theatre organizations, festivals, and people's awards to leading actors in a film, television series, television film or play. The first Best Actor award was awarded for acting in a film, on May 16, 1929 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the Academy Awards to Emil Jannings for his role of Grand Duke Sergius Alexander in The Last Command and August Schilling in The Way of All Flesh. In theatre, it was first awarded on April 6, 1947 by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League at the Tony Awards to José Ferrer for his role of Cyrano de Bergerac in Cyrano de Bergerac and to Fredric March for his role of Clinton Jones in Years Ago. In television, it was first awarded on January 23, 1951 by Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at the Primetime Emmy Awards to Alan Young for his role of himself in The Alan Young Show. Filmfare Awards
The Filmfare Awards are presented annually by The Times Group to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Hindi language film industry of India. The Filmfare ceremony is one of the oldest film events in India. The awards were first introduced in 1954, the same year as the National Film Awards. They were initially referred to as the Clare Awards or The Clares after Clare Mendonca, the editor of The Times of India. A dual voting system was developed in 1956. Under this system, "in contrast to the National Film Awards, which are decided by a panel appointed by Indian Government, the Filmfare Awards are voted by both the public and a committee of experts." The Filmfare Awards have been often referred to as the Hindi film industry's equivalent to The Oscars.
History
The Filmfare awards were first introduced in 1954. The Clares was the original name of the award ceremony, named after The Times of India critic Clare Mendonca. Readers of Filmfare were polled to decide the winners, and over 20,000 readers spread throughout India participated in the polls; trophies were given to winners of the popular vote. In the first awards function, held on 21 March 1954 at the Metro Theatre of Mumbai, only five awards were presented: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Music Director. Do Bigha Zameen was the first movie to win the award for Best Film. The first winners for other four categories were: Bimal Roy for his direction of Do Bigha Zameen, Dilip Kumar for his performance in Daag, Meena Kumari for her performance in Baiju Bawra, and Naushad Ali for his music in Baiju Bawra.

Actor
An actor (or actress for female) is one who portrays a character in a performance. The actor performs "in the flesh" in the traditional medium of the theatre, and/or in modern mediums such as film, radio, and television. The analogous Greek term is ὑποκριτής (hypokrites), literally "one who interprets". The actor's interpretation of their role pertains to the role played, whether based on a real person or fictional character. Interpretation occurs even when the actor is "playing themselves", as in some forms of experimental performance art, or, more commonly; to act, is to create, a character in performance.
Formerly, in some societies, only men could become actors, and women's roles were generally played by men or boys. In modern times, women occasionally played the roles of prepubescent boys.
Terminology
After 1660 in England, when women first started to appear on stage, the terms actor or actress were initially used interchangeably for female performers, but later, influenced by the French actrice, actress became the commonly used term for women in theatre and film. The etymology is a simple derivation from actor with ess added. Within the profession, the re-adoption of the neutral term dates to the 1950–1960s, the post-war period when the contributions of women to cultural life in general were being reviewed.Actress remains the common term used in major acting awards given to female recipients.

Director Ken Hannam's breakthrough historical drama was the first Australian film of the 1970s to gain international acclaim, paving the way for the Australian New Wave and the success of movies such as The Last Wave and Breaker Morant.
Sunday Too Far Away is a story about the struggles of itinerant sheep shearers in the Outback in the 1950s. Jack Thompson won an Australian Best Actor prize for his role as Foley, a hard-drinking, hard-working shearer who is the best at his profession. When local landowners try to drive away the sheep herders, Foley leads a strike to establish their right to exist and live off the land. The dispute turns violent as the landowners retaliate, and Foley struggles to maintain his supremacy. Many scenes were shot in the same shearing barn used in the 1960 British-Australian hit The Sundowners, which was about an Irish sheepherder who emigrates to Australia. The title comes from a traditional song of complaint sung by sheep shearers' wives.
The film became a sensation at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nathan writes: Hi everyone at AMC. I am huge fan of the Percy Jackson book series and I thought the two film adaptaions were good. But felt that the films would have done better if they had stuck with Percy being 12 when the series starts. I feel like when they made him a teenager in the films it made it harder for them to make all five books into films because the actors will look to old to be playing these younger characters. So my question is should they reboot the franchise and this time make Percy 12 like he is in the first book that way if it goes the Harry Potter route and they make all five books into movies the actor can grow up along with the movies?
Josh Brown writes: I was really wondering if you think there is a chance the next TMNT will get rid of Johnny Knoxville and allow the actor who did the mocap to do the voice, just like all the other turtle actors did. Knoxville's voice really took me out of the film and I think the original performer deserves to deliver the lines. Thanks and keep up the great work!

I know when people watch trailers, their expectations for that film can be high or low. And if those expectations are exceeded or just aren't met, reviews can alter. I'm sure how much a trailer spoils can also play into that fact. Your thoughts?

Academy Award® and Golden Globe® nominated actor Willem Dafoe continues to make his mark in entertainment through a myriad of challenging roles, working alongside the industry's most respected talent.
Dafoe will next be seen in Tommy Wirkola’s What Happened to Monday?, with Noomi Rapace and Glenn Close. This film is set in the future and in a world where families are limited to one child due to over population and follows a set of septuplets who must avoid being discovered by the government. Following that, he lends his voice in Adam Wingard’s Death Note with Nat Wolff. The film follows Light Turner (Wolff) who stumbles upon the ‘Death Note,’ a journal in which he can write anyone’s name and kill them at any time, in any fashion he wants. Dafoe plays the role of Ryuk, a shinigami or “death god,” who guides Light to use the Death Note and then watches chaos unfold.
Late this year, Dafoe will be seen in Sean Baker’s The Florida Project opposite Bria Vinaite, Brooklynn Prince and Valeria Cotto. The film follows a 6-year-old and her friends who are homeless, living in extended-stay motels on the outskirts of Orlando, Florida. Dafoe plays ‘Bobby,’ the manager of the motel, whose job requires him to be a handyman, an office grind, a den mother, a father figure, and a law enforcer all at the same time. Originally premiering at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival acquiring rave reviews, A24 is slated to release the film October 6, 2017. After, Dafoe has Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express, starring Jonny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Dame Judi Dench. Adapted from the book Agatha Christie, the film follows a lavish train ride through Europe quickly unfolds into the thrilling mystery of thirteen strangers stranded on a train. Twentieth Century Fox will release the film November 10, 2017.
Dafoe is currently in production for James Wan’s Aquaman opposite Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman. Dafoe will be seen as ‘Nuidis Vulko,’ a key venerated academic and politician in Atlantis who comes from the generation before Aquaman’s. Exact details of Vulko’s role in the film are still being kept under wraps. Warner Brothers is slated to release the film December 21, 2018. Following, he will begin lensing for Julian Schnabel’s biopic At Eternity’s Gate, which follows the Dutch Post-Impressionist artist, Vincent Van Gough, (Dafoe) and the time he spent in Arles and Auvers-sur-Oise, France.
Most notably, Dafoe garnered critical acclaim for his Oscar®nominated supporting role in the category of Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Shadow of a Vampire. The film is a fictionalized account of F. W. Murnau’s making of the classic vampire film Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens. During production, the crew begins to have disturbing suspicions about their lead actor, Max Schreck, (Dafoe), who arrives onto set in full Gothic regalia, asserting that he is indeed a vampire. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe®, Screen Actors Guild®, Critics Choice®, and won a Film Independent Spirit Award and Satellite Award on behalf of this performance.
