This is one of the most intense detailing adventures I've ever had and I was privileged to work together with my detailing friends for the week. Kevin Brown, Dan Miele, Joseph Torbati, and myself, spent 138 man-hours detailing the McLaren for the Qual Concours and eventually won the coveted Spirit of the Qual award. The 1997 McLaren F1 GTR LT "LongTail" is 1 of 9 race cars produced and was shipping from Switzerland for the show. The team and I flew into Monterey, CA the week prior to the event to turn this race car into a concours winner....which is no small task. This particular race car continues to be driven on race tracks around the world despite its 8-figure price tag. We shot this episode in a "TV-style" format and hope you enjoy the length and quality of detailing information we present in this episode. Thank you for watching! -Larry

Today, the Detail Garage crew face a filthy car interior. This Lexus IS300 has one of the dirtiest car interiors ever seen by Chemical Guys. Beneath the layers of trash and old food, all the leather, cloth, and plastic were full of body oils, filth, and grime. With just a few Chemical Guys products, the crew turn back the ravages of time to polish out this diamond in the rough.
The crew start by wiping down all the plastics with Nonsense All Purpose Cleaner. The invisible cleaner is colorless and odorless, and safe to use on virtually any interior part. The diluted formula easily removes layers of dirt, dust, and body oils from the dashboard and door panels.

The leather steering wheel and upholstery all needed some TLC. Thick layers of body oils mixed with dirt created an unsightly hard crust. Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner cut straight through the mess without staining, drying, or damaging the leather hide underneath.

Since leather is skin, it needs to be moisturized once in a while. Auto detailing
Auto detailing is the performance of thorough cleaning, restoration, and finishing of an automobile, both inside and out, to produce a show-quality level of detail.
Background
Professional detailing services and sale of products to both professionals and hobbyists represent a large commercial presence in places where autos are a primary mode of transport. In the United States alone, the professional and home detailing industry is over $9 billion in revenue.
Components of detailing
Detailing is generally broken down into two categories: exterior and interior, or cabin. There are products and services that focus on these two areas specifically.
Exterior detailing involves cleaning and restoring or exceeding the original condition of the surface of the car's finish (usually a paint with a glossy finish), chrome trim, windows, wheels, and tires, as well as other visible components on the exterior of a vehicle. A wide array of products and techniques are used to do this based on the surface type, surface condition, or the detailer's preference. Products include, but are not limited to: detergents and acid free degreasers (to break down dirt and soil), detail clay (to remove embedded contaminates), waxes and polishes (to resurface and then improve reflectivity), as well as a variety of applicators, brushes, and drying towels.

SECRET Pro-Detailing Tips: McLaren F1 GTR LT (138h detail)
This is one of the most intense detailing adventures I've ever had and I was privileged to work together with my detailing friends for the week. Kevin Brown, Dan Miele, Joseph Torbati, and myself, spent 138 man-hours detailing the McLaren for the Qual Concours and eventually won the coveted Spirit of the Qual award. The 1997 McLaren F1 GTR LT "LongTail" is 1 of 9 race cars produced and was shipping from Switzerland for the show. The team and I flew into Monterey, CA the week prior to the event to turn this race car into a concours winner....which is no small task. The leather steering wheel and upholstery all needed some TLC. Thick layers of body oils mixed with dirt created an unsightly hard crust. Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner cut straight through the mess without staining, drying, or damaging the leather hide underneath.

Since leather is skin, it needs to be moisturized once in a while. Chemical Guys Leather Conditioner and Leather Serum helped nourish the tired leather hide with vitamin E, Aloe, and other dry-to-the-touch agents to restore a soft, supple feel to the seats and steering wheel. It's safe to use Leather Serum on the steering while and gear selector; just make sure you wipe off any excess for a truly dry to the touch feel.
