China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.

Travel video about destination China. China’s Imperial City is located in the centre of its ancient Middle Kingdom, a gigantic and inscrutable empire beyond the Great Wall. The Imperial City is entered through the Gates of Heavenly Peace. After seven years of construction, Ming Emperor Zhu Di moved into his newly-established palace complex in which over eight thousand people lived in almost a thousand rooms. Shanghai - China Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Shanghai - China Travel Guide http://goo.gl/Cl0qNG Shanghai is the future all other Chinese cities aspire to reach. Forget creaking temples and dusty old palaces (there are plenty of them elsewhere); Shanghai is where people come to see modern China at its glimmering best. This fast-paced city of towering skyscrapers is, in fact, not without its own significant history. Its glory days of the 1930s helped build Shanghai's reputation as a City of Sin. But to pause for too long at the city's past would be missing the point: Shanghai is all about the future face of the world's future super power, and coming here is to witness what makes the business end of China tick. Please be safe in China I've re-edited the video because the popular myth, "putting in your atm card number backwards", upon further inspection, was not true. So, to prevent the spread of misinformation, I'm uploading the video again with that edited out. Shout outs to user Vegeta897 for the heads up.

Hear the moving and dramatic story of Chinese author Liao Yiwu – how he wrote the most famous poem describing the horror of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, his brutal imprisonment and how his accounts made him an enemy of China. “I often say that I might have been another person hadn’t it been for the Tiananmen massacre. This movement, he felt, represented his values, and he also acknowledges that if he had had the opportunity, he too would have been doing drugs: “I was an anarchist. Against politics, mass movements and held a self-hatred.” “My attitude towards life is to value poetry and ...
