Westminster Hall is an amazing great hall within the Palace of Westminster, home to the British Houses of Parliament. It was the original great hall of the Palace of Westminster, which occupied the site prior to the Parliament buildings. Built in 1097, the hall has seen much of England's history. The medieval oak roof was put on in 1394 and still amazes visitors today. When Parliament is not in session, the hall can be visited by the public. On 31 July 2015, 800 people gathered in the surroundings of Westminster Hall, in the Palace of Westminster, to witness a historic mock trial of a representative group of Magna Carta barons.
The event was part of a range of activities taking place globally to mark the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta at Runnymede in 1215.
The mock trial saw two senior barristers debating whether King John's actions in the run-up to 1215 justified the terms the barons forced him to agree in the form of Magna Carta, and the extent to which rebellion against the King can be acceptable in the eyes of the law.
The three judges - Lord Neuberger, President of the Supreme Court, Justice Stephen Breyer of the US Supreme Court, and Dame Sian Elias, Chief Justice of New Zealand - heard argument from James Eadie QC for the prosecution and Nathalie Lieven QC for the defence.
Historic witnesses assisting the Court included King John (played by Clive Anderson), the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Stephen Langton (played by Lord Lisvane), leader of the rebel barons, Baron Fitzwalter (played by Prof David Carpenter) and intermediary William Marshal (played by Lord Judge).
The special event was organised by the UK Supreme Court and the Magna Carta 800th Anniversary Commemoration Committee.

Westminster (/ˈwɛsᵗmɪnstər/) is an area of central London within the City of Westminster on the north bank of the River Thames. Westminster's concentration of visitor attractions and historic landmarks, one of the highest in London, includes the Palace of Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral.
Historically the area lay within St Margaret's parish, City & Liberty of Westminster, Middlesex.
The name Westminster originated from the informal description of the abbey church and royal peculiar of St Peter's (Westminster Abbey), literally West of the City of London, indeed until the Reformation there was a reference to the 'East Minster' at Minories (Holy Trinity Priory, Aldgate) east of the City; the abbey was part of the royal palace that had been created here by Edward the Confessor. It has been the home of the permanent institutions of England's government continuously since about 1200 (High Middle Ages' Plantagenet times) and is now the seat of British government.

Pope Benedict XVI
Pope Benedict XVI (Latin: Benedictus XVI; Italian: Benedetto XVI; German: Benedikt XVI; born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger; German pronunciation: [ˈjoːzɛf ˈalɔʏzjʊs ˈʁatsɪŋɐ]; on 16 April 1927) served as Pope of the Catholic Church from 2005 until his resignation in 2013. Benedict was elected on 19 April 2005 in a papal conclave following the death of Pope John Paul II and was inaugurated on 24 April 2005.
Ordained as a priest in 1951 in his native Bavaria, Ratzinger established himself as a highly regarded university theologian by the late 1950s and was appointed a full professor in 1958. After a long career as an academic and professor of theology at several German universities, he was appointed Archbishop of Munich and Freising and Cardinal by Pope Paul VI in 1977, an unusual promotion for someone with little pastoral experience. In 1981, he settled in Rome when he became Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, one of the most important dicasteries of the Roman Curia. From 2002 until his election as Pope, he was also Dean of the College of Cardinals, and as such, the primus inter pares among the Cardinals. Prior to becoming Pope, he was "a major figure on the Vatican stage for a quarter of a century"; he had an influence "second to none when it came to setting church priorities and directions" as one of John Paul II's closest confidants.

On 31 July 2015, 800 people gathered in the surroundings of Westminster Hall, in the Palace of Westminster, to witness a historic mock trial of a representative group of Magna Carta barons.
The event was part of a range of activities taking place globally to mark the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta at Runnymede in 1215.
The mock trial saw two senior barristers debating whether King John's actions in the run-up to 1215 justified the terms the barons forced him to agree in the form of Magna Carta, and the extent to which rebellion against the King can be acceptable in the eyes of the law.
The three judges - Lord Neuberger, President of the Supreme Court, Justice Stephen Breyer of the US Supreme Court, and Dame Sian Elias, Chief Justice of New Zealand - heard argument from James Eadie QC for the prosecution and Nathalie Lieven QC for the defence.
Historic witnesses assisting the Court included King John (played by Clive Anderson), the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Stephen Langton (played by Lord Lisvane), leader of the rebel barons, Baron Fitzwalter (played by Prof David Carpenter) and intermediary William Marshal (played by Lord Judge).
The special event was organised by the UK Supreme Court and the Magna Carta 800th Anniversary Commemoration Committee.

So Hello from London! Time for a new destination. This is a city that I haven't visited in almost 4 years. So we're both very excited to be in London. And we're going to be making a little video guide. Actually a really big video guide because we plan on showing you 50 different things to do around London.
Our first stop was Trafalgar Square. This square leads to a lot of central attractions, so it's a nice place to people watch, get your bearings, and plan out where you want to go in the city.

So Hello from London! Time for a new destination. This is a city that I haven't visited in almost 4 years. So we're both very excited to be in London. And we're going to be making a little video guide. Actually a really big video guide because we plan on showing you 50 different things to do around London.
Our first stop was Trafalgar Square. This square leads to a lot of central attractions, so it's a nice place to people watch, get your bearings, and plan out where you want to go in the city.

"On 8 November 1965—almost 50 years ago to the day—Harold Wilson, the then Prime Minister, authorised the creation of the British Indian Ocean Territory. That act was far from benign. The establishment of that territory was nothing less than a cynical and calculated plan to annex the Chagos archipelago, expel its indigenous people and deploy resources for military advantage.
"The plan hinged on shameless exploitation. During a five-year period from 1968 to 1973, every single Chagossian man, woman and child was forcibly removed in secret from the islands. None has since been allowed to return.
"For the past 50 years, Chagossians have lived in poverty. To the utter shame of every UK Government and the 17 Foreign Secretaries since, that ethnic cleansing of an entire people has been variously ignored, glossed over or actively misrepresented.
"The purpose of the annexation was to facilitate the leasing of the largest island in the Chagos archipelago, Diego Garcia, to the United States to allow the construction of an enormous military base. The base remains today.
"We now know that, in return for annexing the archipelago and expelling its people, the UK Government received a cash discount of £11 million on Polaris nuclear missiles, which is equivalent to about £200 million today when adjusted for inflation.
"The story of Chagos has been a chronicle of abuse, naked greed and bullying on a grand scale."
