Heart rate is the speed of the heartbeat measured by the number of contractions of the heart per minute (bpm). The heart rate can vary according to the body's physical needs, including the need to absorb oxygen and excrete carbon dioxide. It is usually equal or close to the pulse measured at any peripheral point. Activities that can provoke change include physical exercise, sleep, anxiety, stress, illness, ingesting, and drugs.
The normal resting adult human heart rate ranges from 60–100 bpm.Tachycardia is a fast heart rate, defined as above 100 bpm at rest.Bradycardia is a slow heart rate, defined as below 60 bpm at rest. During sleep a slow heartbeat with rates around 40–50 BPM is common and is considered normal. When the heart is not beating in a regular pattern, this is referred to as an arrhythmia. These abnormalities of heart rate sometimes indicate disease.
While heart rhythm is regulated entirely by the sinoatrial node under normal conditions, heart rate is regulated by sympathetic and parasympathetic input to the sinoatrial node. The accelerans nerve provides sympathetic input to the heart by releasing norepinephrine onto the cells of the sinoatrial node (SA node), and the vagus nerve provides parasympathetic input to the heart by releasing acetylcholine onto sinoatrial node cells. Therefore, stimulation of the accelerans nerve increases heart rate, while stimulation of the vagus nerve decreases it.

This is an animation of a heart beating at different rates. The 3D model was constructed in Maya, textured in Mudbox. The heart was rigged and animated in Maya, rendered in Mentalray and composited in After Effects. The sound was edited in Soundbooth. The EEG graphic was built in Illustrator and animated in Aftereffects.

Many cyclists and athletes train using a heart rate monitor. Here's our guide to using one and getting the most from it. Click here to subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN In combination with power, heart rate is one of the training metrics of choice for pro cyclists. But, many cyclists and athletes from other sports get great results by just training with a heart rate monitor. This is good news because heart rate monitors are cheaper than many power meters. And, if you already have an ANT+ device you might just need to buy a heart rate monitor strap. Comment below: do you train with a HEART RATE MONITOR or POWERMETER? What is a heart rate monitor? | Heart rate monitor uses - B Health Plus Heart rate monitors used to be exclusively operated by physicians and nurses alone but that was soon rectified with today’s multi-tasking generation. Every person seemed to want to know about everything that was related to them and that of course included monitoring their own heartbeats. What is a Heart Monitor? Also known as a cardiac monitor, a heart monitor is a piece of electronic equipment that can be used to track or observe heart functions continuously. It allows people to place a numerical value on their healthiness based on their heart rate and have a target heart rate to work for. The more complex versions of the heart monitor allow physicians to see any signs of deterioration or improvement and make the nec...
Many people ask whether the beta blockers cause any side effect. One important side effect with the use of beta blockers is a decreased heart rate. So this is prominent especially in the elderly individual, where there is a low heart rate and people going in for fainting spells. Also you can go for a postural hypotension. So that is the blood pressure dropping from the standing to the sitting position. So that is one of the important side effects of beta blocker treatment. So while initiating the beta blocker treatment, you have to start with a lower dose and you have to slowly increase the dose so that the heart rate remains the same within a specified range. Tough we want very low heart rates in people who have coronary artery disease. So we need to target the heart rate in a stepwise ma...
Anemia is associated with increased heart rate with because whenever there is anemia, the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood is low. So for every gram of blood that is there the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood reduces. So to make up for the oxygen carrying capacity, so both the heart rate increases and the peripheral resistance comes down. This is actually the reason why there is a sense of palpitation which most of the women will feel. More severe the anemia, the more acute the patient is going to develop these symptoms. So if the anemia develops very slowly, them the cardiovascular system can adapt to that by making the peripheral resistance and you do not get many palpitations and symptoms. So this is the reason for the palpitation with anemia you get. So anemia may be multifac...
This week Dr. Mike Kessler joins the show to explain what Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is, what it measures, and why it's an invaluable clinical tool. Homeostatic capacity and adaptability are keys to health and longevity, and knowing your HRV can help predict how long you'll live healthy. Dr. Mike uses the HeartQuest HRV device which employs cutting edge Russian technology to reveal not only your HRV but things like brain toxicity, hormone and mineral levels, your psycho-emotional state and biological vs. actual age, and more. I've found the readings to be incredibly accurate and think it's another excellent tool for gauging cellular health.

Heart rate measuring technology is cheap and highly available, so I thought I'd try measuring my heart rate while doing a Landing. When Neil Armstrong landed on the Moon his heart rate was over twice normal because of the workload and stress of the situation, I however, need to add some extra features to even get a slight rise in my pulse rate.

As we dive deeper into the Ancestral living framework, all roads eventually lead to stress and adaptation. This applies to everything from food sensitivities and poor movement quality to lack of strong social connections and more. Stress causes adaptations. Our bodies are a manifestation of the cumulative adaptations we have developed from various stressors. Learn to measure stress, identify it's sources, and control it to conquer almost any health or performance goal. I will cover hormesis, allostasis, autonomic nervous system function, and heart rate variability. Also, how to apply this knowledge to guide appropriate Ancestral-based lifestyle changes. Abstracts and information about the Ancestral Health Symposium can be found at www.ancestralhealth.org/ahs14-program.
