Ruth Ann (Spears) Mowery, 71 year old Checotah resident, died peacefully Sunday, April 21, at her home. She was born on Wednesday, February 4, 1942 in Hoyt, OK to Thurman and Dortha (Ross) Spears. Ruth grew up in the Hoyt / Stigler area and graduated from Stigler High School in 1959. She married the love of her life Gene Mowery on Monday, August 13, 1979 in Sallisaw, OK. Ruth, who went to cosmetology school and worked as a beautician for several years, was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was the first woman Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis International of District 31 in Texas, Oklahoma. Ruth went to work for her husband as a legal secretary and enjoyed being a homemaker where she loved working with flowers and gardening. She also worked for Eufaula Public Schools with Special Needs children and retired in 2003. Ruth was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Checotah, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Lana Spears. Ruth is lovingly survived by her husband Gene F. Mowery of the home; children Amber Mowery of Oklahoma City, OK, Mark Mowery and wife Andrea of Colcord, OK, David A. McCoy of Muskogee, OK, and Natasha McCoy of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren Adam Mowery and wife Sarah, REL McCoy, T.C. McCoy, and Kenny McCoy; great-grandchildren Charlotte Mowery, and Akesha Richardson; brothers Charles Spears, Wayne Spears and wife Della, Paul Spears and wife Hester, Sam Spears, Mickey Spears and wife Trish. In honoring the Life of Ruth Spears, the family has requested memorials be made in her memory to INTEGRIS Nazih Zudhi Transplant Institute of INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center 3300 NW Expressway Oklahoma City, OK 73112. Viewing for Ruth will be held from 12-8 P.M. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 with her family greeting friends from 5-7 P.M. at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 26, 2013 in the Family Life Center of First Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Montgomery officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will be held at 2 P.M. in the Hoyt Cemetery in Hoyt, OK under the personal direction of John Garrett. Billy T. Davis, T.C.
