A Master of Fine Arts degree typically requires two to three years study of post graduation after the bachelor’s degree is obtained. Unlike other degrees which are mostly based on theories, master of fine arts is a relatively creative degree and is awarded as a terminal degree in creative writing, visual arts, photography, film making, dance, theatre or other art administration.

The MCAD MFA program is a community of makers, thinkers, theorists, researchers, and creative professionals. Our student body is diverse with a robust international presence. Subjects of student inquiry responds to social, cultural, and professional needs as well as to entrepreneurial opportunities, stretching across art and design practices. Students in the program pursue creative work in a lively, interdisciplinary environment that includes graphic design, printmaking, paper & book arts, painting, photography, illustration, sculpture, drawing, animation, interactive media, filmmaking, comic arts, furniture design, and installation art.
The MCAD MFA program pivots around a rigorous one-on-one mentor-based model. Graduate students work with mentors who are experts in their fields. For three semesters, this intensive experience is augmented by equally challenging critique seminars and theory courses. Midway through the process, students engage in a formal review with a committee of faculty who suggest, evaluate and guide students’ projects. The concluding semester of the candidate experience culminates with a public exhibition of the thesis project and its defense.
The MCAD MFA program is an active part of a contemporary and vibrant creative community in Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, and the program utilizes the expertise of world-class faculty and professionals. Master of Fine Arts
A Master of Fine Arts (MFA or M.F.A.) is a graduate degree that typically requires two to three years of postgraduate study after a bachelor's degree (BFA—though the term of study varies by country or university. The MFA is a creative degree usually awarded as a terminal degree in visual arts, creative writing, graphic design, photography, filmmaking, dance, theatre, other performing arts—or in some cases, theatre management or arts administration. Coursework is primarily of an applied or performing nature with the program often culminating in a major work or performance.
A master of fine arts program generally requires a bachelor's degree prior to admission, but many institutions don't require that an undergraduate major be the same as the MFA field of study. The most important admissions requirement has often been a sample portfolio or a performance audition.
The Master of Fine Arts differs from the Master of Arts in that the MFA, while an academic program, centers around practice in the particular field, whereas programs leading to the MA usually center on the scholarly, academic, or critical study of the field. Additionally, in the United States, an MFA is recognized as a terminal degree for practitioners of Visual Art, Design, Dance, Photography, Theatre, Film/Video, New Media, and Creative Writing—meaning that it is considered the highest degree in its field, and is a minimum qualification to become a full-time professor at the University level in these disciplines. There are exceptions to this standard in the Arts, notably in the case of music performance, where the MFA is not seen as a terminal degree in the context of the more standardized DMA degree.

A Master of Fine Arts degree typically requires two to three years study of post graduation after the bachelor’s degree is obtained. Unlike other degrees which are mostly based on theories, master of fine arts is a relatively creative degree and is awarded as a terminal degree in creative writing, visual arts, photography, film making, dance, theatre or other art administration.
Master of Fine Arts programs are available in a variety of application which includes performing arts, sculpting, graphic designing et cetera. These programs help students to obtain jobs in their respective artistic fields by teaching them creative and technical skills. For example, a student in a MFA program in film making can learn all facets of film making starting from directing the film to script writing.
There are various courses available depending on the interest of a student. If one pursues fine arts, one would spend most of his time in a studio rather than in a lecture hall. Barry McCann was born in 1962 in Armidale NSW Australia, where he now lives with his wife Lucy, also a full time artist. Together they run McCann Fine Art, producing, selling and teaching art.He is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes and his works hang in collections around the world.
Barry McCann’s interest in art began with his love of drawing as a young student presenting school assignments with more illustrations than text and developed further as a young adult during his college years. Drawing became a way of gaining some pocket money and new friends.
His artistic interest and flair became very advantageous with his chosen trade as a Chef and Cake Decorator, but it wasn’t until he enrolled in an introductory Watercolour course at the Canberra School of Arts, A.C.T. that his appetite for art really began. Armed with an insatiable thirst for art knowledge, he stumbled upon a book about the life and works of artist John Singer Sargent and this has influenced his work and artistic vision ever since. He has studied with many leading artists in their field in order to build on his skills and in 2000 he began painting as a fulltime career. Barry’s love of art has taken him to some of the best museums and art galleries in the world where he draws constant inspiration.
His subject matter usually involves an animated object with a dramatic light effect and enjoys the constant challenge of trying to portray the illusion of both movement and form with a narrative theme. The pursuit of conveying beauty in his work is paramount. He believes that art is a visual language and should need little explanation… you should just like looking at it. Finding the middle ground where traditional representational art can be fused with a more modern look is something he strives for. His work usually portrays a traditional scene and is painted using loose edges, obvious brushstrokes, dribbles, spatter or “movement lines” all of which are used in contemporary art practices.
Barry McCann would like his viewers to not have an opinion of his work, but a connection or a response..
