The self-proclaimed "eighth wonder of the world" is getting ready to close its doors.
The owner of the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, announced Wednesday the casino and resort will close because of an ongoing employee strike.
While the casino bears the Trump name, the Republican presidential candidate doesn't own it anymore. The resort is owned by Carl Ichan and run by Tropicana Entertainment.
The hospitality workers union walked out July 1 after months of contract negotiations. The workers wanted their health insurance and pension benefits back — something that was cut in 2014 by the previous casino owner.
A statement on the closure said: "Currently the Taj is losing multi-millions a month, and now with this strike, we see no path to profitability. ... [We] have fiduciary duties to shareholders and our directors cannot just allow the Taj to continue burning through tens of millions of dollars."
The resort pointed a finger at the union, blaming it for the failed negotiations, but the union puts the blame on the business.
The Local 54 president put out a statement, saying, "There was no element of trying to reach an agreement here on Ichan's part; it was always 'my way or the highway' from the beginning."
The hotel and casino will close after Labor Day weekend. The owners plan to send out layoff notices to their 3,000 employees in the next two days.

Workers upset over cuts to health and other benefits at Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal casino extended their strike into the Fourth of July holiday, comparing owner Carl Icahn to the British sovereign American revolutionaries fought over two centuries ago.
About 1,000 of the resort's cooks, housekeepers, bellmen and servers had walked off the job Friday, seeking reinstatement of health, pension and other benefits eliminated during 2014 bankruptcy proceedings, as well as higher wages. They earn an average of $11.80 an hour, and their hourly wages have risen 80 cents the past 12 years, union representatives say.

Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal (/ˌtɑːdʒ məˈhɑːl/, more often /ˈtɑːʒ/; Persian for "Crown of Palaces", pronounced [ˈt̪aːdʒ mɛˈɦɛl]) is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan (reigned 1628–1658), to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 42-acre complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall.
Construction of the mausoleum was essentially completed in 1643 but work continued on other phases of the project for another 10 years. The Taj Mahal complex is believed to have been completed in its entirety in 1653 at a cost estimated at the time to be around 32 million rupees, which in 2015 would be approximately 52.8 billion rupees (US$827 million). The construction project employed some 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects led by the court architect to the emperor, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.

Trump Taj Mahal
The Trump Taj Mahal is a casino located at 1000 Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States, in the casino area along the shore. The casino is owned by Trump Entertainment Resorts. With approximately 50 regular tables and 25 tournament tables, the Taj Mahal had one of the largest poker rooms in Atlantic City, second in size only to The Borgata.
The casino was officially inaugurated in 1990, with Michael Jackson performing at the ceremonies, and was built at a total cost of nearly one billion dollars. Restaurants at the Taj include Dynasty, Il Mulino New York, Moon at Dynasty, Safari Steakhouse, and Hard Rock Cafe.
On November 25, 2014, the Trump Taj Mahal announced plans to close and cease casino and hotel operations on December 12, 2014 but on December 5, 2014 the date was pushed back to December 20, 2014. On December 18, 2014 the Trump Taj Mahal received an agreement with its union to drop its appeal against the company to save the casino and it remains open.

Michael Jackson
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. Called the King of Pop, his contributions to music and dance, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.
The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his elder brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller" from his 1982 album Thriller, were credited with breaking down racial barriers and with transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool. The popularity of these videos helped to bring the then-relatively-new television channel MTV to fame. His 1987 album Bad spawned the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror", and "Dirty Diana", becoming the first album to have five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. With videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream", he continued to innovate the medium throughout the 1990s, as well as forging a reputation as a touring solo artist. Through stage and video performances, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive sound and style has influenced numerous artists of various music genres.

Trump Taj Mahal casino workers' strike enters its third day
Workers upset over cuts to health and other benefits at Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal casino extended their strike into the Fourth of July holiday, comparing owner Carl Icahn to the British sovereign American revolutionaries fought over two centuries ago. About 1,000 of the resort's cooks, housekeepers, bellmen and servers had walked off the job Friday, seeking reinstatement of health, pension and other benefits eliminated during 2014 bankruptcy proceedings, as well as higher wages. The self-proclaimed "eighth wonder of the world" is getting ready to close its doors.
The owner of the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, announced Wednesday the casino and resort will close because of an ongoing employee strike.
While the casino bears the Trump name, the Republican presidential candidate doesn't own it anymore. The resort is owned by Carl Ichan and run by Tropicana Entertainment.
The hospitality workers union walked out July 1 after months of contract negotiations. The workers wanted their health insurance and pension benefits back — something that was cut in 2014 by the previous casino owner.
A statement on the closure said: "Currently the Taj is losing multi-millions a month, and now with this strike, we see no path to profitability. ... [We] have fiduciary duties to shareholders and our directors cannot just allow the Taj to continue burning through tens of millions of dollars."
The resort pointed a finger at the union, blaming it for the failed negotiations, but the union puts the blame on the business.
The Local 54 president put out a statement, saying, "There was no element of trying to reach an agreement here on Ichan's part; it was always 'my way or the highway' from the beginning."
The hotel and casino will close after Labor Day weekend. The owners plan to send out layoff notices to their 3,000 employees in the next two days.

This mighty mausoleum was built on the orders of the Mogul King, Shah Jehan, for his favourite wife.Surrounding an inner core of stone, the Taj Mahal is mainly of brick construction encased in marble. The marble was transported from quarries about 300 km from Agra and in addition to its richly decorated, precious white marble, red sandstone was also used for its massive main gateway. Floral reliefs, tendrils and other carefully created stone works adorn the building’s magnificent exterior. On its walls there are artistic images taken from the Koran and there are also non-Islamic decorations that were designed by 17th century architects. The stunning Persian motifs of blossom and plants consist partly of precious stones such as diamonds, garnet, sapphires and onyx. In 1629 the wife of the Indian Mogul, Shah Jehan, died at the birth of her 14th child. In her memory, her husband promised to build a mighty monument: the result was the Taj Mahal. It was built between 1630 and 1653 and its Persian character is due to its first architect, Isa Afandi, who originated from Iran. Its onion-like cupolas were a real architectural achievement of their day and the symmetry of the building is truly remarkable. A perfect example of Indo-Islamic architecture, today the Taj Mahal is India’s most famous structure.

Taj Mahal, a most celebrated piece of Mughal architecture and craftsmanship is the most visited attraction of North India Tourism. This epitome of love crowned as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World which is visited by almost every tourist who comes here from several parts of the world. This ultimate monument of love is also granted with status of the best World Heritage Sites in India.
Taj Mahal is the most famous attractions India Tourism located on the west bank of river Yamuna in Agra, Uttar Pradesh State. This mausoleum is the symbol of eternal love which was built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. This grand edifice signifies and glorifies human love which has withstood the test of time, and still stands in all its glory of architecture. This is the mausoleum which was built by the Muhgal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648 A.D. as a tribute of romance with his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. With this 28 type of precious and semi-precious stones were embedded in the interiors of the monument which adds extravaganza to this grand structure.
The design of Taj Mahal is basically a Persian style embedded with an Indian architectural pattern. The Taj Complex is divided into four distinctive parts and each has its own significance and characteristics. The Taj Gateway facing the Taj Mahal is the massive red sandstone Gateway. It is decorated with verses from the holy Koran. While the Taj Garden provides a breathtaking view of lush-green flora going all the way up to the plinth of the Taj. This garden illustrates the Islamic style of architecture and symbolizes spirituality.
The Mausoleum is the mighty structure of the Taj placed on a 6.7 meter high plinth. Four minarets each of 41.6 meters height flanked by the four corners of the plinth and balance the tomb. These minarets are so spectacularly designed that in case of any mishappening, the pillars would not fall on the tomb. Each minaret has an Arabic letter written and famous for their calligraphic representations.
Tombs in Taj Mahal are set on a square pedestal. The base structure in the tomb is large and has many chambers. Of the various chambers, the main chamber has the cenotaphs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. The steles of the tomb are decorated with precious and semi-precious stones and the ceilings are strategically constructed to echo voices and melodies.

Instead of going straight to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, first I head west to hang with some locals in Rajasthan. Here, the people are welcoming, the desert is sprawling, and the camels command the streets. And it turns out that the cows aren’t the only things Hindus hold sacred.
Karni Mata Rat Temple. Over 20,000 rats call this Hindu temple home, and Indians come here to pay their respects, as these rats are believed to be the reincarnations of ancestors. Shoes aren’t allowed inside, so plan ahead and bring two pairs of socks, and if you’re brave enough, it’s considered an honor to share a bowl of milk with the rats.
Most travelers who come to Jaisalmer opt for the camel safari across the Thar Desert, leading you to a good spot to view the sun setting over the Pakistani border, which happens to be heavily armed, so always keep your cool.
The food is awesome. It completely blew me away. I honestly don’t know much about Indian food, and half the time I didn’t know what I was ordering, but with the intense spices and pungent flavors, every meal seemed to be better than the next, from high end restaurants to local cafes. TripAdvisor and Lonely Planet usually hit the mark with their recommendations, and asking for whatever the chef recommends almost always rewarded me with a memorable meal.
Get on a bus and head north, and you’ll eventually reach Rishikesh- a city where you won’t find meat on any menu, and is overrun by hippie backpackers, weird yoga people, and unruly monkeys. It’s the gateway to the Himalayas.
Oh my God whatever you do.. don’t feed the monkeys. Rabies is a very serious risk in India, and medical treatment to prevent it is very long, and very painful.
After experiencing my share of incredible extremes here in India, my journey brings me to Varanasi, Hindu’s most holy city on the banks its most holy river, The Ganges. Varanasi is a city that was built on and still thrives on traditions. Traditions that may seem strange and shocking, at first, but spend enough time here and you’ll come to appreciate the power of this place.
For many people, Varanasi is their final resting place. Hindus believe that dying here will release you from the cycle of rebirth. For families that can afford it, elaborate cremation ceremonies are carried out in publi c view along the river, their ashes being released into the water. For the vast majority, however, bodies are weighted with stones and sunk to the bottom. These traditions are in harmony with daily bathing rituals- a ritual that is said to remove sins and purify souls.

After experiencing my share of incredible extremes here in India, my journey brings me to Varanasi, Hindu’s most holy city on the banks its most holy river, The Ganges. Varanasi is a city that was built on and still thrives on traditions. Traditions that may seem strange and shocking, at first, but spend enough time here and you’ll come to appreciate the power of this place.
For many people, Varanasi is their final resting place. Hindus believe that dying here will release you from the cycle of rebirth. For families that can afford it, elaborate cremation ceremonies are carried out in publi c view along the river, their ashes being released into the water. For the vast majority, however, bodies are weighted with stones and sunk to the bottom. These traditions are in harmony with daily bathing rituals- a ritual that is said to remove sins and purify souls.

The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous attractions in all of India, and we visited Agra with the specific intent of going to the famous site. More travel and food adventures http://migrationology.com/
I normally don't go to a destination specifically to see the main attraction, most of the time I'm rather content to just wander around and discover street food and explore instead of chasing the famous sites. But Agra, India, was a little different, and we visited with the main intent of going to see the famous Taj Mahal - one of the most recognized man made structures in the world.
When we arrive to Agra, we checked into Hotel Taj Plaza, which wasn't the overly nicest hotel I've stayed at, but it was the right price and it was just a 5 minute walk from the Taj Mahal. After putting our bags down we headed to the ticket counter which is actually not located at the Taj Mahal, but about 1 kilometer down the street. There you purchase your ticket and then can take a free shuttle to the entrance of the Taj Mahal.
One thing that got me a bit annoyed was that the security wouldn't allow me to bring in my microphone into the Taj Mahal, so unfortunately the sound quality of this video is not very good, sorry about that, and hope you can hear everything.
Some say that the Taj Mahal (ताज महल) is overrated and that they were not overly impressed when they saw it in real life. But I'm here to tell you that it was quite amazing and despite all the crowds of people, the building was majestic.
The Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum that was built during the Indian Mughal Islamic empire by Shah Jahan in memory of one of his wives. Since it was built for one of his beloved wives, that is the reason why the Taj Mahal (ताज महल) is often considered a symbol of love. Having seen so many photos in my life of the Taj Mahal, it was almost as if I had been there already when I got my first glimpse, but being there in person is much more breathtaking. Walking around the gardens offers numbers chances to see the structure from different angles and to admire the incredible craftsmanship and symmetric architecture. After walking around the gardens we then proceeded on to the main deck where you must put the shoe coverings over your shoes and can then walk on the white marble surface. You can go inside the mausoleum to see the tombs, but they didn't allow any photography inside, so no footage there.
After spending a few hours at the Taj Mahal, I headed out the East Gate and stopped at a rather expensive restaurant known as Relax He Relax. Though the prices were pretty expensive, after visiting the luxurious Taj Mahal, I was ready for something upscale. The Muglai northern Indian food was quite excellent!
