Notre Dame College, also known as Notre Dame College of Ohio or simply NDC, is a Catholic, coeducational, liberal arts college in South Euclid, Ohio, United States. Established in 1922 as a women's college, it has been coeducational since January 2001. Notre Dame College offers 30 majors and individually designed majors and confers undergraduate and graduate degrees through five academic divisions. The college has a current total enrollment of 2,250 students. The 48-acre (19.4 ha) main academic and residential campus is located 10 miles (16 km) east of Cleveland in South Euclid.
Fielding athletic teams known as the Notre Dame Falcons, the college is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. Notre Dame is a member of the Mountain East Conference (MEC), a Division II conference that began playing in the 2013–14 school year. Dame is a noble title and the female equivalent of the honour of knighthood in the British honours system and the systems of several other countries such as Australia and New Zealand. The word "damehood" is rarely used but it is shown, on the official British Monarchy website, as being the correct term. It is the equivalent form of address to "Sir" for knights. A woman appointed to the grades of Dame Commander or Dame Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, the Royal Victorian Order, or the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire becomes a dame. Because there is no female equivalent to a Knight Bachelor, women are always appointed to an order of chivalry. Women who are appointed to the Most Noble Order of the Garter or the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle are given the title of "Lady" rather than "Dame".
The Order of the Ermine, founded by John V, Duke of Brittany in 1381 was the first order of chivalry to accept women; however, female knights existed for centuries in many places in the world prior to this. Like their male counterparts were distinguished by the flying of coloured banners and were generally armigerous (bearing a coat of arms).
College (Latin: collegium) is an educational institution or a constituent part of one. Usage of the word college varies in English-speaking nations. A college may be a degree-awarding tertiary educational institution, a part of a collegiate university, or an institution offering vocational education.
In the United States and Italy, "college" formally refers to a constituent part of a university, but generally "college" and "university" are used interchangeably, whereas in Oceania and South Asia, "college" may refer to a secondary or high school, a college of further education, a training institution that awards trade qualifications, or a constituent part of a university (See this comparison of British and American English educational terminology for further information).
In ancient Rome a collegium was a club or society, a group of people living together under a common set of rules (con- = "together" + leg- = "law" or lego = "I choose" or "I read").

Esmeralda, the bell tolls for thee!
A tortured soul in a twisted frame
I'm the one who tolls the bell.
In a cathedral tower,
That is Notre Dame.
... Notre Dame!
I wave high above
To the crowd down below,
Though heaven help me.
I killed for love
Now there can be no Sanctuary.
No-one would weep
As I go to my grave,
Only she who knew me.
The arrows of one betrayed,
Life's hollow mockery.
Rings loud in my ears,
The bitter call of there jeers.
Cruel laughter drowns my tears.
On top of the world,
I'm falling to the ground.
Hear the bells cry Sanctuary!
On top of the world,
I'm deafened by the sound.
Hear the bells cry Sanctuary!
Grotesque, outcast and alone,
They used ropes to bind me.
Broke a whip across my back
To remind me who I am.
She was beauty,
I was the beast.
My Esmeralda.
Bitter sweet she was
Caught and released
By this hunchback of Notre dame.
In anger and shame,
Bearing torches they came.
This fool was not to blame.
Up here I'm safe
And on my guard.
While bloodlust rules
The boulevard.
These hallowed walls
Are all around,
How long before madmen
Tear them down to the ground?
