Hello everyone! It's been quite a while since I've uploaded anything to my channel. But recently, I've made a video that I've been wanting to make for quite some time, and I have the connection to do it, so I figured, "why not?"
How this video came about:
About 2 years ago, I became aware of the problems of Mount Everest; more specifically, the pollution and garbage that has piled up over the years on this beautiful and majestic peak. In doing so, I became fascinated of the story about so many bodies being left behind. When climbing the World's Tallest Mountain, it's a given that you're facing death. Especially since nothing can survive without oxygen above 24,000 feet in elevation. However, in my research, it seems many people are either unaware of just how difficult it is to simply survive on such a challenging obstacle as Everest, or they just play ignorance. In any case, many are saddened, shocked; even horrified at the prospect of having to climb over bodies while ascending to the Summit. Indeed, many bodies become landmarks; names on maps, who's real identities are forgotten to time.
While looking over images of bodies on Mount Everest those 2 years ago, I noticed that I was humming the song, "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas. I knew right then that I had to make a music video using these haunting images, as well as this beautiful song. I would like to dedicate this video to all those whom have perished in their quest to summit the World's Tallest Mountain. Let us never forget that they had names, identities, and most importantly, families and friends who loved and cared about them. They paid the ultimate price for the best chance any mortal on this Earth has to touch Heaven.
I have included a disclaimer for the music in this video, at the end of the video. Nevertheless, at the risk of this video being taken down because of legal reasons, I am going to state here:

It was May 19, 2012 and a young and determined Canadian was proudly standing on top of the world after an agonizingly slow climb up Mount Everest. Shriya Shah-Klorfine had reached the summit. Since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's first ascent of Everest almost 60 years ago, it has been an irresistible fascination for aspiring mountaineers. Hundreds make the attempt every year, and many don't make it. This year was no exception as hundreds made their way to the summit even as worrying signs pointed to trouble. Among them was Shriya Shah-Klorfine, the cheerful and energetic Torontonian. She had never climbed a mountain before, and despite warnings from her friends, husband, and seasoned Everest sherpas, she was climbing the world's highest peak, determined to succeed.

Mount Everest
Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in Tibet as Chomolungma, is Earth's highest mountain. It is located in the Mahalangur mountain range in Nepal and Tibet. Its peak is 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level. It is not the furthest summit from the centre of the Earth. That honour goes to Mount Chimborazo, in the Andes. The international border between China (Tibet Autonomous Region) and Nepal runs across Everest's precise summit point. Its massif includes neighbouring peaks Lhotse, 8,516 m (27,940 ft); Nuptse, 7,855 m (25,771 ft) and Changtse, 7,580 m (24,870 ft).
In 1856, the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India established the first published height of Everest, then known as Peak XV, at 8,840 m (29,002 ft). The current official height of 8,848 m (29,029 ft) as recognised by China and Nepal was established by a 1955 Indian survey and subsequently confirmed by a Chinese survey in 1975. In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society upon a recommendation by Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India. Hello everyone! It's been quite a while since I've uploaded anything to my channel. But recently, I've made a video that I've been wanting to make for quite some time, and I have the connection to do it, so I figured, "why not?"
How this video came about:
About 2 years ago, I became aware of the problems of Mount Everest; more specifically, the pollution and garbage that has piled up over the years on this beautiful and majestic peak. In doing so, I became fascinated of the story about so many bodies being left behind. When climbing the World's Tallest Mountain, it's a given that you're facing death. Especially since nothing can survive without oxygen above 24,000 feet in elevation. However, in my research, it seems many people are either unaware of just how difficult it is to simply survive on such a challenging obstacle as Everest, or they just play ignorance. In any case, many are saddened, shocked; even horrified at the prospect of having to climb over bodies while ascending to the Summit. Indeed, many bodies become landmarks; names on maps, who's real identities are forgotten to time.
While looking over images of bodies on Mount Everest those 2 years ago, I noticed that I was humming the song, "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas. I knew right then that I had to make a music video using these haunting images, as well as this beautiful song. I would like to dedicate this video to all those whom have perished in their quest to summit the World's Tallest Mountain. Let us never forget that they had names, identities, and most importantly, families and friends who loved and cared about them. They paid the ultimate price for the best chance any mortal on this Earth has to touch Heaven.

Officially, Mount Everest is 29,029ft based on a 1954 ground measurement. A satellite-based measurement in 1999 found it to be six feet taller but this was disputed.
The summit is just under the cruising altitude of a passenger jet (around 31,000ft)
At Everest's highest point, you are breathing in a third of the amount of oxygen you would normally breathe. This isn't because of different air composition but rather because of less air pressure.
Since 1969 at least one person has died on Everest every year except for 1977
Winds on the mountain have been recorded at more than 200mph.
One out of every 10 successful climbs to the summit ends in death.
There are estimated to be 200 dead bodies on the mountain and they are used as waypoints for climbers

Since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's first ascent of Everest almost 60 years ago, it has been an irresistible fascination for aspiring mountaineers. Hundreds make the attempt every year, and many don't make it. This year was no exception as hundreds made their way to the summit even as worrying signs pointed to trouble. Among them was Shriya Shah-Klorfine, the cheerful and energetic Torontonian. She had never climbed a mountain before, and despite warnings from her friends, husband, and seasoned Everest sherpas, she was climbing the world's highest peak, determined to succeed.

Our 100th Video!!!
Just to try something new I thought I'd talk about my trip to Mount Everest Base Camp. Hopefully, this little hodgepodge of pictures, gear overview and travel advice will help motivate you to to get out there and see it for yourself.
NOTICE:
- Please understand that the photos in this presentation may not necessarily correspond to what I'm saying in the audio track.
- This video is based on personal experiences and review of my old journal entries. If you want to attempt a similar journey I STRONGLY recommend you do your own research in preparation for your trip.
NOTES:
- You need a visa to stay in Nepal. These can be purchased when you arrive in Kathmandu airport. It'll cost you $50-60US. Bring cash as there are no machines available.
- When you arrive you'll be assailed by a crowd of taxi drivers who want to take you to their hotel (imagine a movie star being jumped by paparazzi and you'll get the idea). Make sure you have a reservation at a place before you arrive to avoid this hassle. Kathmandu Guest House is the most well known place and is easy to get to.
- Spend a day looking at different guide companies and make sure to have a lot of questions prepared beforehand in order to make an informed decision. A two week package with airfare to/from Lukla, guide, room, board, and gear rental ran me about $800US.
- Pack Light.Dress in layers. Stick to synthetics since they dry faster.
- Enjoy your last shower before you head off on the trek. Clean water becomes more precious the higher you go up. Be prepared to be dirty for 2 weeks.
- You can trek from Kathmandu to Lukla. This will add two weeks to your trek time but will better prepare you for the high altitude.
- Alternatively you can fly straight to Lukla. It's a faster option but the altitude will hit you harder.
- Trek High, Sleep Low.
- Go at a slow and steady pace. Take breaks and don't push yourself too hard.
- Bring playing cards. Trust me.
- It wouldn't hurt to know how to play a few songs on the guitar either.
- Don't forget to take pictures.
- This is an overview of a trip to Base Camp only. Summiting Everest requires a level of skill and experience that far exceeds my own. That and you also need a license from the Government of Nepal that costs $60,000-80,000US per expedition team.
- If you EVER want to complain about how tired you are, take a look at what the porters are carrying.

The international border between China (Tibet Autonomous Region) and Nepal runs across Everest's precise summit point. Its massif includes neighbouring peaks Lhotse, 8,516 m (27,940 ft); Nuptse, 7,855 m (25,771 ft) and Changtse, 7,580 m (24,870 ft).
In 1856, the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India established the first published height of Everest, then known as Peak XV, at 8,840 m (29,002 ft).
The current official height of 8,848 m (29,029 ft) as recognised by China and Nepal was established by a 1955 Indian survey and subsequently confirmed by a Chinese survey in 1975. In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society upon a recommendation by Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India.
Waugh named the mountain after his predecessor in the post, Sir George Everest, arguing that there were many local names, against the opinion of Everest.
Mount Everest attracts many climbers, some of them highly experienced mountaineers. There are two main climbing routes, one approaching the summit from the southeast in Nepal (known as the standard route) and the other from the north in Tibet.
While not posing substantial technical climbing challenges on the standard route, Everest presents dangers such as altitude sickness, weather, wind as well as significant objective hazards from avalanches and the Khumbu Icefall. As of 2016, there are well over 200 corpses still on the mountain, with some of them even serving as landmarks.
The first recorded efforts to reach Everest's summit were made by British mountaineers. With Nepal not allowing foreigners into the country at the time, the British made several attempts on the north ridge route from the Tibetan side.
