The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the East River in New York City, connecting Lower Manhattan at Canal Street with Downtown Brooklyn at the Flatbush Avenue Extension. The main span is 1,470 ft (448 m) long, with the suspension cables being 3,224 ft (983 m) long. The bridge's total length is 6,855 ft (2,089 m). This is one of four toll-free bridges spanning the East River; the other three are the Queensboro, Brooklyn, and Williamsburg Bridges.
The bridge opened to traffic on December 31, 1909. It was designed by Leon Moisseiff, and is noted for its innovative design. As the first suspension bridge to employ Josef Melan's deflection theory for the stiffening of its deck, it is considered to be the forerunner of modern suspension bridges and this design served as the model for many of the long-span suspension bridges built in the first half of the twentieth century. The Manhattan Bridge was also the first suspension bridge to utilize a Warren truss in its design.

Manhattan (/mænˈhætən/, /mənˈhætən/) is one of the five boroughs of New York City, in the state of New York in the United States. The borough is coterminous with New York County, founded on November 1, 1683 as one of the state's original counties. The borough consists mostly of Manhattan Island, bounded by the East, Hudson, and Harlem Rivers, and also includes several small adjacent islands and Marble Hill, a small neighborhood on the mainland.
Manhattan is often said to be the economic and cultural center of the United States and hosts the United Nations Headquarters. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and Manhattan is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization: the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Many multinational media conglomerates are based in the borough. Historically documented to have been purchased by Dutch colonists from Native Americans in 1626, for the equivalent of US$1050, Manhattan real estate has since become among the most expensive in the world, with the value of Manhattan Island, including real estate, estimated to exceed US$3 trillion in 2013.
Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (/ˈpuːtɪn/; Russian: Влади́мир Влади́мирович Пу́тин; IPA: [vlɐˈdʲimʲɪr vlɐˈdʲimʲɪrəvʲɪtɕ ˈputʲɪn], born 7 October 1952) has been the President of Russia since 7 May 2012, succeeding Dmitry Medvedev. Putin previously served as President from 2000 to 2008, and as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012. During his last term as Prime Minister, he was also the chairman of United Russia, the ruling party.
For 16 years, Putin was an officer in the KGB, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel before he retired to enter politics in his native Saint Petersburg in 1991. He moved to Moscow in 1996 and joined President Boris Yeltsin's administration where he rose quickly, becoming Acting President on 31 December 1999 when Yeltsin unexpectedly resigned. Putin easily won the subsequent 2000 presidential election and was reelected in 2004. Because of constitutionally mandated term limits, Putin was ineligible to run for a third consecutive presidential term in 2008. Dmitry Medvedev won the 2008 presidential election and appointed Putin as Prime Minister, beginning a period of so-called "tandemocracy". In September 2011, following a change in the law extending the presidential term from four years to six, Putin announced that he would seek a third, non-consecutive term as President in the 2012 presidential election, an announcement which led to large-scale protests in many Russian cities. In March 2012, he won the election, which was criticized for procedural irregularities, and is serving a six-year term.

The banner was spotted hanging from the Brooklyn side of the Manhattan Bridge on Thursday. It shows Putin in a suit with a Russian and Syrian flag as backdrop. THIS isn't some cheesy title to get you to watch this video. Billy and I literally risk our lives riding across the Manhattan bridge. (not in the bike lane)
A giant poster of Russian President Vladimir Putin was draped along the side of the Manhattan Bridge on Thursday afternoon. The massive banner featured the Russian leader in a suit and tie against the backdrop of the country’s flag along with the word “peacemaker” emblazoned at the bottom. At least two people unfurled the politically driven banner around 1:45 p.m., witnesses said.
The Putin Peacemaker banner, hung from the Manhattan Bridge on 10-06-16 is a new and critical coded observation, that reveals many new observations. This video report will show and discuss these new findings, and how the Putin Banner event of 10-06-16, relates and directly links to the mega ritual, that strongly involves Manhattan Island and the Red Granite, Ancient Egyptian Obelisk, located in Central Park. Many areas of Manhattan Island have been already observed and reported on, and this report will show all of these recent connections at one time, to clearly and convincingly prove, that the Putin Peacemaker banner event, was in fact, an event that only someone like myself would question and see from a complete different but important perspective, that allows me to prove and show the...

One of my favourite things about NYC are the old historic bridges. I love how the city has made these bridges accessible to cyclists. In this video I give a tour of the 3 bridges which connect the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn across the East River. My starting point was New York City Hall, and I ended the video at Continental Army Plaza in Brooklyn. A New Years morning stroll, 2014. First day in the morning. All sorts of quirky little stickers and grafitti along the way. Captured here, for posterity. "Go for a walk." -- Its something I do when I have extra time on my hands. Bring along the camera, and see what there is to be seen. An array of funky little stickers, some about some strange dude (I guess) named Mange. Glad I did not meet him on the bridge. And also, to street tags, grafitti. Interesting. It will all change over time.
Bike ride from the ferry down the bike path to the Brooklyn Bridge, ride around Brooklyn Bridge Park and DUMBO. Then come back via the Manhattan Bridge stopping at the 9/11 Memorial before heading back north.
