Salzburg (German pronunciation: [ˈzaltsbʊɐ̯k];Bavarian: Såizburg; literally: "Salt Fortress") is the fourth-largest city in Austria and the capital of the federal state of Salzburg.
Salzburg's "Old Town" (Altstadt) is internationally renowned for its baroque architecture and is one of the best-preserved city centers north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The city has three universities and a large population of students. Tourists also frequent the city to tour the city's historic center and the scenic Alpine surroundings.
Salzburg was the birthplace of 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the mid‑20th century, the city was the setting for the musical play and film The Sound of Music.
Traces of human settlements have been found in the area, dating to the Neolithic Age. The first settlements in Salzburg continuous with the present were apparently by the Celts around the 5th century BC.
Around 15 BC the separate settlements were merged into one city by the Roman Empire. At this time, the city was called "Juvavum" and was awarded the status of a Roman municipium in 45 AD. Juvavum developed into an important town of the Roman province of Noricum. After the collapse of the Norican frontier, Juvavum declined so sharply that by the late 7th century it nearly became a ruin.

Travel video about destination Salzburg in Austria. The Austrian city of Salzburg is a city of bishops as well as being the birthplace of world famous classical composer, Amadeus Mozart. The cathedral is located in the heart of the city, a Baroque building situated on the same site as the city's first church and now surrounded by several squares. Even today, the cultural picture of the city on the Salzach is dominated by more than 100 churches, castles and palaces. Hohensalzburg Castle is the largest fully-preserved medieval fortress in Middle Europe. It is located 119 metres above the city and covers over 30,000 square metres. It is like a small medieval town within itself with several buildings, courtyards and squares. Bastions with mighty towers were built at strategic points and toge...
Salzburg Austria http://blog.myvideomedia.com English see below [dt.]

Travel video about destination Salzburg in Austria. The magnificent buildings within Mozart's famous city of Salzburg are not the only reason why it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Austria. The Prince Archbishop, Wolf Dietrich, ordered that Salzburg Cathedral be built according to Italian Early Baroque design. It was constructed between 1614 and 1628 on the site of a previous Romanic building. At one time the Getreidegasse served as the main road of the old city and on January 27th 1756, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in house number seven, 119 metres above the town is one of Middle Europe's most well preserved castles, Hohensalzburg, which covers an area of around 30,000 square metres. The centre of Kapitel Square is dominated by a Schwemme, a fountain that dates back...
We had just 24 hours to see Salzburg, Austria on our road trip across Europe. We made the most of it and tried to fit in as many attractions as we could. Salzburg is a beautiful city, but it was pretty crowded when we visited There were far more tourist than we were expecting. I guess the Sound of Music has really pulled in the tourist. You can't walk any part of the city without seeing something related to Sound of Music, tours, shops, concerts, plays, you name it, they got it. Brittany almost convinced me to go on a Sound of Music tour, but only because free beer would be provided. Take a virtual tour through Salzburg, Austria with us! Guten Tag! This trip to Hallstatt and Salzburg was quite interesting to us. We lived in Austria for 4 months already and it was really cool to see the traditional side of Austria. I absolutely loved this random town called Gosau and to me it was so picturesque!! It looked like it was right out of a postcard! Oh, Austria would always be a home to me!
Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart lies among the snow-covered Alps, hills and the lake of Salzkammergut. There Hohensalzburg palace stands quietly over the small town. The coaches, starting from the Dome, can take the tourist everywhere in the old town. Near the city we can refresh ourselves on the beaches of Attersee. In St. Wolfgang, take a seat in the famous ‘White Horse Inn’. The beautiful main square of Mondsee is not far either, nor is Bad Ischl, the former imperial spa resort, where one can still hear Lehár’s music after ordering an ‘Ischler’. Near Gmunden stands the ‘Schloss Ort’ that became famous thanks to a TV series. There is geranium on every balcony. The sunny hillsides, the lakes and the green pine forests tempt us to return.
Subscribe to my channel: http://goo.gl/y9hQsB My dad always wanted to go to Vienna, and since I knew I would be going to Switzerland I suggested we meet up and do a father daughter adventure trip through Austria together:) I don't know if you can tell, but I look a lot like my dad and we both love architecture so we couldn't miss Salzburg. Salzburg is crazy idyllic, most of the houses are blush colours so in a sense it comes of as a pretty feminine city, which I don't mind at all:) We saw a fortress, shoppingstreets, cafe's and Mozart's birthplace. We saw so much in one day that I had to split the video up in 2 parts, so the rest of Salzburg will be up next week:) By the way if you are interested in more lifestyle videos then maybe check out my other channel GoDownsize: https://www.yout...
