Oregon (i/ˈɔːrᵻɡən/ AWR-ə-gən) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Oregon is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Washington, on the south by California, on the east by Idaho, and on the southeast by Nevada. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary, and the Snake River delineates much of the eastern boundary. The parallel 42° north delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. It is one of only three states of the contiguous United States to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean, and the proximity to the ocean heavily influences the state's mild winter climate, despite the latitude.
Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843, the Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Today, at 98,000 square miles, Oregon is the ninth largest and, with a population of 4 million, 26th most populous U.S. state. The capital of Oregon is Salem, the second most populous of its cities, with 160,614 residents (2013 estimate). With 609,456 residents (2013 estimate), Portland is the largest city in Oregon and ranks 29th in the U.S. Its metro population of 2,314,554 (2013 estimate) is 24th. The Willamette Valley in western Oregon is the state's most densely populated area, home to eight of the ten most populous cities.

This is a short drive through tour of Newport down the main drag.
More rain, lots of rain, hard rain, sideways rain, wind. All my audio is useless. Dang. Neat views, but miserable conditions. “Tennessee Hayride” by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://audionautix.com/
Spent Thanksgiving 2013 in Newport, Oregon with a Gopro and my friends and family. We went crabbing several days and spent a couple of afternoons at the beach. Stayed at the Embarcadero on Yaquina bay for a week filled with sunshine and warm temperatures. Hope you enjoy the video, music is Josh Woodward - Morning Blue and is available free on the Free Music Archive.
Crabbing from public fishing pier in Newport. Red Rock crab - 24 crabs, any size and sex. Dungeness crab - 12 male crabs, minimum size 5 3/4 inches.
If you are planning this drive allow yourself lots of time and bring a camera with lots of memory space. Gas is around $2.29 a gallon and many motels are under $50 per night. Newport City and the Oregon Coast to California
this is probably the quickest surf fishing trip for me. I fished under 20 minutes because the surf was just too rough. managed to land 2 silver surf perch before quitting. rod: 10ft salmon/steelhead spinning reel: shimano stradic FK 5000 line: 40# braid hook: #2 baitholder bait: gulp sandworms, 2" camo I'm hoping to hit newport again next week with the wind forecast predicted to be much calmer.
went out to newport, oregon today for some rock bass fishing. landed 2 but only got 1 on camera as I didn't have my gopro on for the first fish. they were far and in between. the newport jetties gets a lot of pressure. you have to try a different spot if you're not catching anything in one area. covering more area is the key here. just be careful as those big boulders are dangerous! I was using a curley tail grub with a 1 oz sinker tied about 2.5" below the grub. jigging it along the rocks netted me those 2 rock bass. check out my other rock bass fishing videos if you like this one. thanks for watching.

Beautiful Newport harbor and a tour of the fishing boat Excalibur, wow. Imagine sailing on a 90 ft aluminum boat to Hawaii then Tahiti, Fiji, around Asia on the way to Japan and back to North America chasing fish. 25,000 gallon fuel capacity is not enough to make the round trip...a 1 dollar difference per gallon of fuel if refueling fully is $25,000 - the boats on this circuit do not refuel in Canada.

Any time you will see visitors come out on the pier to take a look at the wild local sea lions. There's something special in seeing wildlife in their own environment free to come and go. As for contributing to the local economy, we have come twice to see the animals along with the beautiful harbor at Newport. BTW you can go crabbing right of the pier but watch the sea lions cause they try to steal the bait and catch.

This video was made during a 10 hour boat trip out of Newport, Oregon. We travelled 35 miles out to some commercial fishing boats. There is a slide show in the middle of the video that has some photos of Northern Fulmars and Black-footed Albatross. The conditions were not perfect. We had strong winds, big swells and rain. I couldn't get any video coming back because the boat was rocking too much and spray was making it too wet. I was suffering from a bad headache most of the day. Luckily the sea sickness medicine worked. I found a couple of nasty bruises on my hip and arm when I got home. The video is a bit choppy but I'm including it here because it will give you an idea of the conditions. We did stop for some time at the fishing boats and I switched to photography to get close ...
Crabbing in the ocean out of Newport Oregon on July 4, 2015. Filmed on a GoPro Hero 3 at about 55 feet deep. We used rockfish carcasses for bait.
I filmed this back in 1999 at the Oregon Undersea Gardens located in Newport Oregon. This was filmed on a Sony Handycam Hi8. The video was transferred from the camera to a Lite-On DVD Recorder. Sorry about the low audio track. I will try to edit the audio track at a later time. The sound is muted till after 0:28 The show starts at 4:32. If you will be in the Newport Oregon area the Oregon Undersea Gardens, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and The Wax Works are places you may want to visit. Approximately the first 1/3 of the video is currently Subtitled/CC as of 01-09-2016 and will eventually be completed at a later date as it is time consuming.
An episode of Angler West TV from 60 miles off the Oregon Coast out of Newport. Learn late season techniques for Albacore tuna with Paul Shively and Tom Rudolph from the Pew Environment Group and Doug Hays of Oregon Tackle who are fishing with John Horak and Captain Mike.
