The Oregon Coast is a region of the U.S. state of Oregon. It runs generally north–south along the Pacific Ocean, forming the western border of the state; the region is bounded to the east by the Oregon Coast Range. The Oregon Coast stretches approximately 363 miles (584 km) from the Columbia River in the north to the California state border in the south. The Oregon Coast is not a specific geological, environmental, or political entity, but instead includes the entire coastline of Oregon, including the Columbia River Estuary.
The Oregon Beach Bill of 1967 allows free beach access to everyone. This bill allows private beach landowners to retain certain beach land rights, but it removes the property tax obligation of the beach landowner. In exchange, the beach landowner grants an easement passage to pedestrians. The Beach Bill grants a public access easement on the beach that cannot be taken away by the landowner; nor can the landowner build on the beach.
Traditionally, the Oregon Coast is regarded as three distinct sub-regions, each with its own local features and regional history. While there are no legal or objective boundaries, most Oregonians consider the three regions to be:
Oregon (i/ˈɔːrᵻɡən/ AWR-ə-gən) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Oregon is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Washington, on the south by California, on the east by Idaho, and on the southeast by Nevada. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary, and the Snake River delineates much of the eastern boundary. The parallel 42° north delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. It is one of only three states of the contiguous United States to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean, and the proximity to the ocean heavily influences the state's mild winter climate, despite the latitude.
Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843, the Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Today, at 98,000 square miles, Oregon is the ninth largest and, with a population of 4 million, 26th most populous U.S. state. The capital of Oregon is Salem, the second most populous of its cities, with 160,614 residents (2013 estimate). With 609,456 residents (2013 estimate), Portland is the largest city in Oregon and ranks 29th in the U.S. Its metro population of 2,314,554 (2013 estimate) is 24th. The Willamette Valley in western Oregon is the state's most densely populated area, home to eight of the ten most populous cities.
Central Oregon is a geographic region in the U.S. state of Oregon and is traditionally considered to be made up of Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties. Other definitions include larger areas, often encompassing areas to the north towards the Columbia River, eastward towards Burns, or south towards Klamath Falls. These three counties have a combined population of 153,558 as of the 2000 census, with Deschutes the largest of the three counties, having approximately four times the population of the other two counties combined. As of 2008, the most populous city in the region is Bend, with an estimated 80,995 residents. As defined by the three county definition, Central Oregon covers 7,833 square miles (20,290 km2) of land. Central Oregon has had 3 record tourism years beginning in 2012. Over 2.2 million people visited Central Oregon in 2012 and again in 2013.
The region is located in the middle of the state with the Cascade Range to the west dividing the state from north to south, and the smaller Ochoco Mountains to the east. Portions of the region are part of a basalt plateau formed by the Columbia River Basalt Group, others are part of the slopes of the Cascades, and others part of the Basin and Range. The climate of the area is primarily arid due to the rain shadow effect of the Cascades on the western boundary of the region. Outdoor recreational activities, timber, and ranching are the primary economic activities.
This video covers a few of my favorite locations on the central Oregon coast. The stretch covered is 120 miles long by road (or 80 miles as the crow flies). Cape Perpetua Scenic Area Devil's Churn Spouting Horn Seal Rock State Park Sunset Bay State Park Depoe Bay The footage was captured in two visits to the area, 2006 and 2007. You may notice that in some scenes there is much more sea foam than others, even at the same location. 2006 is the foamy one. There was some pretty rough surf on that visit. I've traveled the PNW coast from Neah Bay and Mukkaw Bay in Washington State, down to the Northern edge of California. And, I love it all.

Observations and comparisons to what I know as "normal" for these particular tide pools and rocks: (I spent many years in the past at these beaches as a child and young adult)) Bird species diversity and numbers have drastically declined. Species which sea birds eat, have also drastically declined in numbers and diversity along the shore line and in the tide pools (small crabs, sand crabs, sand shrimp, small fish and mollusk) Sea Anemones are dull in color and one species seems to dominate these tide pools, while other species have drastically declined in numbers or disappeared altogether. Diversity of vegetation has drastically declined. Vegetation species appear brown spotted and/or unhealthy. Muscle beds, barnacles and starfish are all unhealthy and dying off in large numbers with livin...

In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States. I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti. While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next po...

Get your free audiobook or ebook: http://appgame.space/sabk/35/en/B01DHE475E/book Oregon Coast Quake Fear: Living in a time of Earthquakes & Tsunamis, by Dave Masko. A meditation on Oregons delicate ecosystem at risk from man-made climate change, and the fearful Cascadia subduction zone not if but when this zone will trigger a catastrophic earthquake and resulting tsunami. Dave Masko has lived and reported about this clear and present danger of quakes since retiring as an Air Force photojournalist in 1999, and moving to the central Oregon coast. Statistically speaking, this new journalism reporter states in this collection of reports that its no longer hard to say whether Oregons coast is overdue for seismicity in the region. When people ask Masko: what evidence, specifically, have you see...

A volcanic eruption is now taking place off the West coast near central Oregon. This video is 2 parts. I show the New Eruption story in part 2 at about 15min 20sec into this video. Mostly showing the plumes which occurred BEFORE the announcement of this new eruption. Now the dormant volcano steam plumes which erupted this past week make MUCH more sense. This is truly one of the saddest ghost town stories we've ever told. It's also one of the most telling. We as humans make plans mother nature doesn't always agree to. We put down foundations, streets, lights and our own roots but if she changes her mind, you are in trouble. That is the story of a place called Bay Ocean near Tillamook on the Oregon Coast. Take a watch.

After last weeks major uptick in earthquake activity, producing multiple M7.0+ events in the West Pacific + Asia -- we now see a new round of deep earthquakes has struck below the West Pacific plate. New "silence" has formed off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, and along far South California -- multiple dormant volcanoes now moving (have moved) up the West Coast of California, and also through Nevada, Oregon, and Washington state. Add in the large fissure which formed in Central Eastern Wyoming in the Bighorn Mountains, East of Yellowstone supervolcano , and a greater picture of seismic unrest along the West coast of the United States begins to take shape. There may indeed be large earthquake activity to strike the West coast of the United States in the next week or so, most likely t...
