Dan is an old Scandinavian given name with disputed meaning. Dan is also a Hebrew given name, after Dan, the fifth son of Jacob with Bilhah and founder of the Israelite Tribe of Dan. It is also a given name or a nickname for people named Daniel.

Kick

A kick is a physical strike using the foot, leg, or knee (the latter is also known as a knee strike). This type of attack is used frequently by hooved animals as well as humans in the context of stand-up fighting. Kicks play a significant role in many forms of martial arts, such as savate, Combat Hopak, taekwondo, sikaran, karate, Pankration, Kung fu, Vovinam, kickboxing, Muay Thai, capoeira, silat, and kalaripayattu.

Kicking is also prominent from its use in many sports, especially those called football. The best known of these sports is association football, also known as soccer.

History

The English verb to kick appears only in the late 14th century, apparently as a loan from Old Norse, originally in the sense of a hooved animal delivering strikes with his hind legs; the oldest use is Biblical.

Kicks as an act of human aggression have likely existed worldwide since prehistory. However, high kicks, aiming above the waist or to the head appear to have originated from Asian martial arts. Such kicks were introduced to the west in the 19th century with early hybrid martial arts inspired by Asian styles such as Bartitsu and Savate. Practice of high kicks became more universal in the second half of the 20th century with the more widespread development of hybrid styles such as kickboxing and eventually mixed martial arts.

Damien Walters

Damien Gareth Walters (born 6 April 1982) is a British Freerunner and former gymnast from Derbyshire who specialises in tumbling and trampoline.

Career

Walters participated in four Trampoline World Championships. In 2003, he was one of four members of the British team winning the World Title in the team competition. In the years 2001 and 2007, he ranked 4th with the team. He also finished 5th in singles competition in 2003 and 2005. In addition, he lost the European Title with the British team in 1992, just after he was placed 2nd in team and 1st in the singles competition two years earlier.

Since 2007, Walters has not participated in further tournaments and has focused on his other projects, mainly his career as a stuntman. He also appeared, however, in a number of television commercials and has performed in acrobatic shows.

Walters has had the role of stunt double or stunt performer in the films: Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Ninja Assassin, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Eagle, I Am Number Four, Blitz, Colombiana, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and Captain America: The First Avenger. In Kick-Ass, he was credited as both a stunt double and assistant fight coordinator. He also appeared in the films 47 Ronin and Kingsman: The Secret Service

Oh Wonder

Oh Wonder are a London-based alt-pop duo, consisting of Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West. Since releasing their DIY debut album, they have seen international success with their mellow, slow-grooving, R&B-flecked alt-pop tunes. Beginning in September 2014, Anthony and Josephine set out to write, record, and release one song a month for a year. All of the songs were released together as a self-titled debut album on September 4, 2015.

Sold out shows in London, Paris, Los Angeles and New York a week after their debut album release marked the beginning of the band’s touring career.

Critical Reception

Oh Wonder have been marked as one of the most talked about international bands of 2015, and tipped for 2016 by numerous blogs and publications. All of their monthly releases consecutively reached #1 on blog aggregator Hype Machine, and they were the second most blogged band in the world in 2015, with streaming figures reaching beyond 100 million. Oh Wonder gave their debut live performance for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale Studios, after receiving avid support from BBC Introducing and DJs Huw Stephens and Greg James.
