Rio de Janeiro (/ˈriːoʊ di ʒəˈnɛəroʊ, -deɪ ʒə-, -də dʒə-/; Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈʁi.u dʒi ʒɐˈnejɾu];River of January), or simply Rio, is the second-largest city in Brazil, the sixth-largest city in the Americas, and the world's thirty-ninth largest city by population. The metropolis is anchor to the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, the second most populous metropolitan area in Brazil, the seventh-most populous in the Americas, and the twenty-third largest in the world. Rio de Janeiro is the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's third-most populous state. Part of the city has been designated as a World Heritage Site, named "Rio de Janeiro: Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea", by UNESCO on 1 July 2012 as a Cultural Landscape.
Founded in 1565 by the Portuguese, the city was initially the seat of the Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro, a domain of the Portuguese Empire. Later, in 1763, it became the capital of the State of Brazil, a state of the Portuguese Empire. In 1808, when the Portuguese Royal Court transferred itself from Portugal to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro became the chosen seat of the court of Queen Maria I of Portugal, who subsequently, in 1815, under the leadership of her son, the Prince Regent, and future King João VI of Portugal, raised Brazil to the dignity of a kingdom, within the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and Algarves. Rio stayed the capital of the pluricontinental Lusitanian monarchy until 1822, when the War of Brazilian Independence began. This is one of the few instances in history that the capital of a colonising country officially shifted to a city in one of its colonies. Rio de Janeiro subsequently served as the capital of the independent monarchy, the Empire of Brazil, until 1889, and then the capital of a republican Brazil until 1960 when the capital was transferred to Brasília.
http://www.expedia.com/Rio-de-Janeiro.d178301.Destination-Travel-Guides The early morning in Rio de Janeiro brings quiet, misty coastlines and pink-purple sunrises. The Brazilian locals are up and about soon enough, piling onto the beautiful beaches and expressing themselves through artwork, dance, and the ubiquitous Rio de Janeiro partying. A Rio de Janeiro tour must stop at Christ the Redeemer, the ubiquitous statue that watches over the city from above the Tijuca National Forest. Take the cable car to the lookout point on Sugarloaf Mountain, the city’s iconic peak, and try not to look down – it’s a long way to drop! After a morning spent in nature, your Rio de Janeiro sightseeing should continue in the city proper. Join the sun worshippers at Copacabana, where you can stake out a pa...

In spring 2014 I visited Rio de Janeiro, the most famous and second biggest city in Brazil. Rio de Janeiro was the site of the Football World Cup final in 2014 and hosts the Summer Olympics in 2016. The admirable landscape of the city is one of the natural wonders of the world. On the top of the impressive Corcovado mountain stands the well known Christ the Redeemer statue, which is one of the new seven wonders of the world. The Sugarloaf mountain, the Maracanã stadium and the Copacabana beach belong to the top attractions of Rio de Janeiro. Additionally, the city is home to the Tijuca rainforest, which is the world's largest urban forest. Im Frühling 2014 besuchte ich Rio de Janeiro, die berühmteste und zweitgrößte Stadt in Brasilien. From the Copacabana to the Ipanema, it is on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro that the Cariocas spend their time. Rich and poor, inhabitants of chic sea-front apartments or the hillside favellas, street kids and football hopefuls, black and white and every colour in between… everyone mixes together. One Rio afficianado claims that the sensual curves of the beach resemble a woman’s body ; the most beautiful in the world, he says. No-one is afraid of revealing themselves here, certainly not the beautiful, nor even the re-modelled, or the obese ! The only thing that counts is escaping the heat, and accepting the protection of the goddesses of the sea. ...

[Verse 1:]
Now you can come visit any time of year
And the sun is shinin and the skies are clear
If you're lookin for love you can find it here
So give Diz a couple minutes up inside your ear
I'm lookin for the light like a Jedi Knight
So I'm headed for Brazil on a red-eyed flight
Cause I gotta hit the festival (Tell em why) it's set to go
Four whole days at a very high decibel
We cut loose and dance in the streets
All the way down to Copacabana Beach
And when it's all over recovery mode
I'm out in Ipanema to relax and reload
Cause I think we got a UD show tomorrow
And I have to go to São Paulo - I know
Andy's at a soccer game, Rod's in a speedo
I'm not Michael Caine but I _Blame it on Rio_
[Chorus:]
You gotta go to Rio, go to Rio with me
If you wanna carnival, carnival with me
Cause you need to get away, get away with me
And we're gonna do it now, do it now with me
If you gotta go to Rio, go to Rio with me
If you wanna carnival, carnival with me
Cause you need to get away, get away with me
(Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro)
[Verse 2:]
Get off the sofa, let's bossanova
Come and do la cosa nostra
And we're gonna make it like presto
Alakazaam, out with my man windjam on the catamaran
It's Rio de Janeiro, nail the map with a thumb tack
And before you unpack you wish you could come back
(Why?) Because the weather's warm and toasty like an oven mitt
And I'd be lyin if I said I wasn't lovin it
Watch the palm trees sway in the breeze
Beautiful girls talkin to me in Portuguese
I do [?] nada, which means the minimum
Sippin Brazilian coffee with a bit of cinnamon
Do you find the daily grind is inescapable?
Have a rest from the stress [?]
There's no other place to go (bro) it's the apex
Talk to your boss and save up your paychecks
We gotta
Let's go, let's go
Let's go, let's go
Let's go, let's go
We gotta go
Let's go, let's go
(Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro)
[Chorus:]
You gotta go to Rio, go to Rio with me
If you wanna carnival, carnival with me
Cause you need to get away, get away with me
And we're gonna do it now, do it now with me
You gotta go to Rio, go to Rio with me
If you wanna carnival, carnival with me
Cause you need to get away, get away with me
