10 Years of Celebrating Historical European Martial Arts

While folk around the world celebrated Halloween, renown fighters presented their exquisite historical fencing skills on the best HEMA sparring event in Sweden!
This video excerpt shows the open longsword final, fight for 1st place. Enjoy!
This was recorded on June 12 2016 at the end of a seminar that Richard Marsden gave on the use of the Polish saber on foot at the Blood & Iron HEMA school (Historical European Martial Arts) in Burnaby, BC, Canada.
Lee Smith (Blood & Iron) and Richard Marsden (Phoenix Society of Historical Swordsmanship) are experienced instructors and the co-founders of their respective martial arts schools. HEMA sparring has little to do with sport fencing. The weapons (shape, weight, balance) and tactics are a lot different. The focus is on martially viable techniques that would disable the opponent in historical combat with sharp blades, while trying to avoid getting hit at the same time or shortly after.

I'm analysing some of the realism issues in the Witcher 3. Of course it doesn't even make much sense, as TW3 is a videogame - it's meant to be entertaining, not realistic.
Yet still, some people seem to take witcher choreographies too seriously. Like, "ooh THAT'S TOTALLY IMPRACTICAL AND I KNOW THAT BECAUSE I'M SO SMART". Come on, let's just enjoy these beautiful pieces of motion capture!
The title is a bit misleading, too - I'm not basing this exclusively on HEMA.

I'm analysing some of the realism issues in the Witcher 3. Of course it doesn't even make much sense, as TW3 is a videogame - it's meant to be entertaining, not realistic. Yet still, some people seem to take witcher choreographies too seriously. Like, "ooh THAT'S TOTALLY IMPRACTICAL AND I KNOW THAT BECAUSE I'M SO SMART".
