Music of the United States

The music of the United States reflects the country's multi-ethnic population through a diverse array of styles. It is a mixture of music influenced by West African, Irish, Scottish, Mexican, and Cuban music traditions among others. The country's most internationally renowned genres are jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, rock, rhythm and blues, ragtime, hip hop, barbershop, pop, experimental, techno, house, dance, boogaloo, salsa, and rock and roll. The United States has the world's largest music market with a total retail value of 4,481.8 million dollars in 2012, and its music is heard around the world. Since the beginning of the 20th century, some Forms of American popular music have gained a near global audience.

Native Americans were the earliest inhabitants of the land that is today known as the United States and played its first music. Beginning in the 17th century, immigrants from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Germany and France began arriving in large numbers, bringing with them new styles and instruments. African slaves brought musical traditions, and each subsequent wave of immigrants contributed to a melting pot.

Aida Cuevas

Aida Cuevas (Spanish pronunciation: [aˈiða ˈkweβas]; born September 24, 1962) is a Mexican Aida Cuevas has created one of the most important careers in the traditional Mexican and Latin American music. Affectionately known as the "The Queen of Ranchera Music”, With a 40 year artistic career, this Latin Grammy Award winner and nominated singer has released 37 albums, selling more than 7 million copies worldwide. Cuevas is a master of the Mariachi art song, offering a full range of mariachi numbers including her infamous falsetto heavyweight “El Pastor ” and "La Cigarra", her iconic Juan Gabriel hits including “Te Doy Las Gracias,” “Te Vas a Quedar Con Las Ganas,” and “Quizás Mañana,” to the people pleasers “Traición a Juan,” “Me Equivoque Contigo,” and “No Me Amenaces.” Her unique voice and style have allowed her to cultivate a successful career spanning decades, leaving a remarkable imprint in the history of Mexican music.

Early life

Aida Cuevas began singing in amateur contests at the age of 11 and was quickly discovered because of her exceptional talent. Her first national exposure was singing in a weekly live radio program called "El Taller XEW" in 1975 at the age of 12 years. A year later she was performing on stages across Europe. These performances quickly lead her to be known as "La Voz de México" (The Voice of Mexico) at an early age. Her talent has led her to perform across 4 continents since 1976.

Nicky Jam

Nick Rivera Caminero (born March 17, 1981), known by his stage name Nicky Jam, is a singer and songwriter. He is best known for the hit "El Perdón".

Early life

Nicky Jam was born in Boston, Massachusetts to a Puerto Rican father and a Dominican mother, however he later moved with his family to Barrio Obrero in Puerto Rico when he was ten years old. He has been in reggaeton since his youth. The name "Nicky Jam" was jokingly given to Caminero by a homeless man. Caminero's family was low-income and as a minor he performed illegal work in a grocery store in order to help support them, in his free time improvising in front of his workplace. One day a music executive noticed his talent and signed him, and at the age of fourteen he recorded his first album "...Distinto A Los Demás". The album was not successful, but it did gain him recognition in the music industry, and warranted the attention of some music producers such as DJ Joe, DJ Playero and DJ Chiklin.
