Counting Crows is an American rock band from Berkeley, California, formed in 1991. The band consists of Adam Duritz (lead vocals, piano), David Bryson (guitar), Charlie Gillingham (accordion, keyboards), Dan Vickrey (lead guitar), David Immerglück (guitar, banjo, mandolin), Jim Bogios (drums) and Millard Powers (bass).
Counting Crows gained popularity following the release of its debut album, August and Everything After (1993), which featured the hit single "Mr. Jones". They have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and received a 2004 Academy Award nomination for their song "Accidentally in Love", which was included in the film Shrek 2.
The band's influences include Van Morrison, R.E.M., Mike + The Mechanics, Bob Dylan, and The Band.
Singer Adam Duritz and guitarist David Bryson began playing San Francisco coffeehouses together, performing under the name Counting Crows. The name was taken from One for Sorrow, a British divination nursery rhyme about the superstitious counting of magpies, a member of the crow family. Duritz heard the rhyme in the film Signs of Life, which starred his close friend, actress Mary-Louise Parker. Developing a following in the Bay Area and deciding to expand the band, Duritz and Bryson kept the name as they added members.
"A Long December" is a song by American alternative rock band Counting Crows. It is the second single and thirteenth track from their second album, Recovering The Satellites (1996). The song peaked at number five on the U.S. Hot Modern Rock Tracks and #1 on the Canadian Singles Chart.
Corvus is a widely distributed genus of birds in the family Corvidae. Ranging in size from the relatively small pigeon-sized jackdaws (Eurasian and Daurian) to the common raven of the Holarctic region and thick-billed raven of the highlands of Ethiopia, the 40 or so members of this genus occur on all temperate continents except South America, and several islands. In Europe, the word "crow" is used to refer to the carrion crow or the hooded crow, while in North America, it is used for the American crow, fish crow, or the northwestern crow.
The crow genus makes up a third of the species in the family Corvidae. The members appear to have evolved in Asia from the corvid stock, which had evolved in Australia. The collective name for a group of crows is a 'flock' or a 'murder'.
Recent research has found some crow species capable of not only tool use, but also tool construction. Crows are now considered to be among the world's most intelligent animals with an encephalization quotient equal to that of many non-human primates.

It tells the story of João Pedro Teixeira, a peasant leader from Sapé, Paraíba, who was murdered in 1962 on the order of local landowners.
In 1962, Coutinho, replacing a cameraman of Centro Popular de Cultura (CPC), shot a protest over the death of Teixeira in Paraíba and met for the first time Elizabeth, Teixeira's widow. When he returned to Rio de Janeiro, he received the proposal of directing a film for CPC. Initially he wanted to adapt the João Cabral de Melo Neto's poems "Cão sem plumas", "O rio" and "Vida e morte Severina" but after the refusal of the poet he decided to film the life of Texeira. In 1963, he went to Paraíba and Pernambuco and within three days he wrote a screenplay based on Mrs. Teixeira's accounts.

Here is great live version of the Counting Crows classic "Round Here" performed on Late Show With David Letterman. Always loved these lyrics and here we have a slightly different ending to the song than what is on the album August And Everything After

While in the studio recording their latest album "Underwater Sunshine", Adam Duritz of Counting Crows asked me if I would take some footage of him talking about the band, making "August and Everything After" and how the Crows decided to make their first live DVD, " August and Everything After: Live at Town Hall". So I called my good friend David Hayter to come down and ask Adam a few questions. They wound up chatting for over an hour. Adam would have loved for all the band members to have participated in the interviews but time and distance proved to be too challenging. I was lucky enough to be able to include footage of keyboard player Charlie Gillingham in the finished product. I put together about 40 minutes of footage that can be found on the DVD bonus feature of "August and Everythi...

A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing that you said as you were leaven'
Now the days go by so fast
And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that I could be forgiven...I wish you would
The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl
And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think you might come to California...I think you should
Drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after two a.m.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower,
Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her
And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell my myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass
And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
