first time in india ias officer teach govt school indore
iNDORE:
The 8th standard students of government Unnat
School, No-48, located in Musakhedi were in for a surprise on Saturday when
Indore divisional commissioner,
Sanjay Dubey, was in the school to teach them
Mathematics for two hours rather than their subject teacher.
This was not a one day exercise. Dubey will be teaching these students every Saturday from 9 am to 11 am as a part of the 'Vidhyadaan' initiative that he has taken with an aim to help government school kids learn better and get exposure to various professions by asking volunteers from different spheres to teach in their free time. Maj (retd) Ajeet Singh, 65, is one such volunteer. He is teaching
English in
Government Pipliarao School. "I have told the children that they will be fluent in English in three months," Singh told
TOI, claiming to be actively involved in the scheme.
Talking about the initiative, Dubey said, "
Education is the key to develop any nation We invite people of the city to dedicate two hours to help build the future of the government school students. More than 800 people have opted to take part in this initiative and have selected schools and days to teach according to their preferences through the website. These include over
150 engineers, around 14 PhD holders, chartered accountants, college students, retired officials, and homemakers." He expressed hope that this initiative will help the school kids groom themselves and improve the standards of the government schools in the city. The students will be monitored for these three months before the annual exams and depending upon its success the scheme will be further implemented in the next academic year, he added.
The volunteers for this initiative have started teaching in government schools from
January 1 and over 65 volunteers taught in different government schools of the city on Saturday. The volunteers will be primarily teaching Mathematics and English to the students. A meeting of all the volunteers will also be organized in the coming days to evaluate and discuss 'Vidhyadaan'. Depending upon the success of the initiative here, the model of the project will be proposed to the state government also in order to implement this scheme across the entire state.
