Harold French (born 23 April 1897 in London; died 19 October 1997) was an English director and actor of stage and screen. As an actor most of his roles occurred between 1912 and 1936. He did not garner as much attention as an actor as he would as a director. From 1940 to 1955 he had a several solid box-office successes. This successful period was clouded by the 1941 death of his wife Phyllis in a bombing raid. Although he did some TV work after 1955 he appears to have retired from directing or acting after 1963.

World War I was a military conflict centered on Europe that began in the summer of 1914. The fighting ended in late 1918. This conflict involved all of the world's great powers, assembled in two opposing alliances: the Allies (centred around the Triple Entente) and the Central Powers. More than 70 million military personnel, including 60 million Europeans, were mobilized in one of the largest wars in history. More than 9 million combatants were killed, due largely to great technological advances in firepower without corresponding ones in mobility. It was the second deadliest conflict in history.

Life and work[link]
MacDonald was the grandson of the writer George MacDonald and son of the author Ronald MacDonald and the actress Constance Robertson.[1] During World War I he served with the British cavalry in Mesopotamia, later trained horses for the army, and was a show jumper. He also raised Great Danes. After marrying the writer F. Ruth Howard, he moved to Hollywood in 1931. He was one of the most popular mystery writers of the 1930s, and between 1931 and 1963 wrote many screenplays along with a few radio and television scripts.
His detective novels, particularly those featuring his series detective Anthony Gethryn, are primarily "whodunnits" with the occasional locked room mystery. His novel X v. Rex (1933), aka The Mystery of The Dead Police, is an early example of what has become known as a serial killer novel (before the term "serial killer' was coined), in which an insane murderer is killing police officers one after the other. "Perhaps his best-known novel is The List of Adrian Messenger."[1]
His work in screenwriting included not only screenplays based on his own works (such as The Mystery of Mr. X in 1934, Who Killed John Savage? in 1937, based on The Rynox Mystery, and many others) but also original stories and screenplays for series characters such as Charlie Chan (Charlie Chan in London, 1934, and Charlie Chan in Paris, 1935) and Mr. Moto (Mysterious Mr. Moto in 1938, Mr. Moto's Last Warning and Mr. Moto Takes a Vacation in 1939). He did not receive any screen credit for his work in adapting Bride of Frankenstein. He adapted a story written by Agatha Christie for the movie Love From A Stranger (1947). MacDonald and Michael Hogan adapted the novel Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, from which Robert E. Sherwood and Joan Harrison created the screenplay for Rebecca, the 1940 film. Sherwood and Harrison were nominated for an Academy Award.
In later years MacDonald wrote television scripts for Alfred Hitchcock Presents ("Malice Domestic", 1957) and Perry Mason ("The Case of the Terrified Typist", 1958).
His novel Patrol was issued as one of the first twenty Penguin Books, and he wrote the novelisation of the film Forbidden Planet (1956). He twice received an Edgar Award for Best Short Story: in 1953, for Something to Hide, and in 1956, for Dream No More.

Dane Reynolds (born September 7, 1985 in Long Beach, California) is a professional surfer from Ventura, California[1]. He is known for his "go for broke" style of surfing that includes many experimental and aerial maneuvers[2].
Reynolds started surfing at the age of 10 after he moved from Bakersfield, California to Ventura[3]. It was here on the point breaks around Santa Barbara and Ventura that he honed his progressive style of surfing. Reynolds first started competing at age 13 and at 16 had dropped out of school to surf[4].
Reynolds competed in the 2003 and 2004 X-Games and received the highest single wave score both years[5]. The 2008 ASP World Tour marked his rookie year on the esteemed tour after finishing 2nd on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) behind Jordy Smith. His ranking on the WCT in 2008 was 19th with 4066 points, then he moved up to the coveted "Top Ten" (10th) in 2009 with 5219 points[1]. In 2010 Reynolds had a breakout year, ending up tied for fourth in the 2010 ASP World Tour with Taj Burrow. His 2011 tour started disappointly missing the first three events due to a knee injury.[6]
Reynold's first video, "First Chapter", won Best Male Performance in a Video and Video of the Year at the 2006 Surfer Poll Awards[5].

Carlos Adriano de Souza Vieira or simply Adriano Gabiru (born August 11, 1977 in Maceió), is a Brazilian attacking midfielder currently playing for Guarany.
He was member of Brazilian squad in Qualifying at 2000 Summer Olympic Games and 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup.
In December 2006 he scored the game-winning and only goal in a 1-0 victory for Internacional against Spanish side FC Barcelona for the FIFA Club World Cup crown in Japan.

Tiago Filipe dos Santos Pires (born 2 January 1987) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Atlético Reguengos.

Tiago Pires was signed by Genoa in mid-2006,[1] along with Diogo Tavares. In 2007–08 season, he was loaned to Lugano along with Alessandro Di Maio, Diogo Tavares and Rivaldo González. In August 2008 he was loaned to Potenza along with José Mamede.[2]

Philip Mercier (also known as Philippe Mercier) (?1689 / 1691 - 18 July 1760) was a portraitist active in England.
Painter of portraits and a pioneer in England of conversation piece and ‘fancy pictures’; an important figure in the introduction of French taste into England.
Life[link]
Born in France to a tapestry worker of French Huguenot stock working for the Elector of Brandenburg, he trained there from 1711 under Antoine Pesne, another French-born artist, who was working as Court Painter to Frederick I of Prussia. Mercier travelled for some time in Italy and France, familiarising himself with the work of Watteau (even etching and perhaps forging it) and acting as an art dealer in Watteau's works (holding, for example, a sale of pictures "collected abroad" in London in 1742). He then settled for good in England in 1715, receiving his first patronage from courtiers at the Hanoverian court, and eventually (from straight after Frederick's arrival in England from Hanover in December 1728) Frederick, Prince of Wales, for all of whom he produced conversation pieces and portraits. He was a member of the St Luke's Club between 1726 and 1735.
He was made Frederick's Principal Painter (1729–36) and Library Keeper (1730–8), with the latter post also including buying pictures for the Prince's collection, but fell from royal favour within ten years and moved out of London, possibly to Northamptonshire, for a year during 1736–7. He then returned to London by October 1737, to focus on 'fancy pictures' influenced by Chardin. In 1739 he moved to York for 12 years, which proved his most productive period. There he painted portraits and sentimental domestic subjects, playing to subjects favoured by the print market (a "fancy" series by him, along with other works, were printed, mainly by Faber Jnr and Houston). He made visits to Ireland (1747), Scotland (1750) and Portugal (1751–2, receiving English merchants' portrait commissions), finally returning to London in 1752, where he exhibited three works at the first summer exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1760 before dying later that year in London.
