Solid Edge is a 3D CAD, parametric feature (history based) and synchronous technology solid modeling software. It runs on Microsoft Windows and provides solid modeling, assembly modelling and 2D orthographic view functionality for mechanical designers. Through third party applications it has links to many other Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) technologies.
Originally developed and released by Intergraph in 1996 using the ACIS geometric modeling kernel it later changed to using the Parasolid kernel. In 1998 it was purchased and further developed by UGS Corp (the purchase date corresponds to the kernel swap).
In 2007, UGS was acquired by the Automation & Drives Division of Siemens AG. UGS company was renamed Siemens PLM Software on October 1, 2007. Since Sep 2006 Siemens also offers a free 2D version called Solid Edge 2D Drafting.
Solid Edge is available in either Classic or Premium. The "Premium" package includes all of the features of "Classic" in addition to mechanical and electrical routing software, and powerful engineering simulation capabilities for CAE (Computer Aided Engineering).
Solid is one of the four fundamental states of matter (the others being liquid, gas, and plasma). It is characterized by structural rigidity and resistance to changes of shape or volume. Unlike a liquid, a solid object does not flow to take on the shape of its container, nor does it expand to fill the entire volume available to it like a gas does. The atoms in a solid are tightly bound to each other, either in a regular geometric lattice (crystalline solids, which include metals and ordinary ice) or irregularly (an amorphous solid such as common window glass).
The branch of physics that deals with solids is called solid-state physics, and is the main branch of condensed matter physics (which also includes liquids). Materials science is primarily concerned with the physical and chemical properties of solids. Solid-state chemistry is especially concerned with the synthesis of novel materials, as well as the science of identification and chemical composition.

Getting Started is a 1979 animated short by Richard Condie and produced in Winnipeg by the National Film Board of Canada.
The film is a comical look at procrastination, based partly on the filmmaker's own experiences, portraying the inability of a pianist to rehearse a Debussy composition.
Awards for Getting Started included the Genie Award for best animation film. The film also won awards at the Zagreb World Festival of Animated Films and the Tampere Film Festival, as well as a "Bijou" at the Canadian Short Film and Television Awards.

How to make Helical Spring in solid edge by using Helix Comand
In this Solid Edge ST9 Assembly tutorial, we have created a model named ‘Suspension’. The Assembly consist of 12 Subassemblies and 43 parts (modelled as well as standard parts) that are positioned according to design intent by using Assembly Constraints. To complete this tutorial, first get the files used for creating the assembly. This tutorial will give you a good practice of applying constraints in an assembly and give you an idea of suspension mechanism. To watch the designing of assembly components, visit on following link:- https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKWX3xUP3pPpRpkNsubaQdZuTGcNh1-MJ …………………………………………. (Rest of the Assembly is designed in Volume-2) The Design of the model ‘Suspension’ has been taken from Assembly file of 'Suspension' → ‘Sample files’ → Autodesk Inventor....
The Tutorial is selected from ‘Solid Edge Testdrive’ E-Book. ________________________________________________________ This test drive demonstrates a typical workflow for modeling parts, creating assemblies, creating drawing views of part, create exploded view of the assembly and drawing sheet of exploded view of assembly with Solid Edge. .......................................................................................... Solid Edge delivers efficient tools for pipe and tube routing, a must for many industrial applications. In this demonstration, we complete the design of a Vapor Recovery System. We'll show pipe routing in 3D, which not only delivers visual feedback of how the piping fits in and around other systems, but also automates manufacturing output such as pipe cut lengths. Extending its routing capabilities, Solid Edge excels in creating flexible hoses. Sketching 3D splines assists in developing the hose path, again making use of orientation locking with shortcut keys, and snapping to existing part geometry. Solid Edge delivers smart and powerful 3D piping design to speed your development and manufacturing processes. www.solidedge.com
