Since the fall of the wall Berlin has been trying to come back as the metropolis it once was. An important part of this was the re-building of the center of the city, where the wall once stood. Within a few years this center was rebuilt, accompanied by an extensive public debate about the quality of the new architecture and the merits of the city planning for the area. To retrieve the ambiance of the metropolitan Berlin of the past would not be possible, but there is evidence that a new Berlin has emerged, with many worthwhile qualities that are unique to the city.
Pariser Platz at the Brandenburg gate is one of the historic squares that has re-emerged. An imposing assembly of internationally acclaimed architects found new solutions for the ten buildings that once defined the site, among them the American embassy. The re-emerging square symbolizes the reunification of the city; the years of the wall formally ended in Pariser Platz in 1989 with the opening of the Brandenburg Gate.

Getestet wurde die verheerende Wirkung des vom Frankfurter IG-Farben-Konzern produzierten Zyklon B bereits 1941 an Kriegsgefangenen. Die streng geheimen Informationen über die Giftgasproduktion in Deutschland wurden schon früh an die Amerikaner verraten. Die Dokumentation des amerikanischen Journalisten Scott Christianson und seines deutschen Kollegen Egmont R. Koch untersucht in diesem Zusammenhang die Rolle des deutschen Wirtschaftsberaters Erwin Respondek.
Am 3. September 1941 führte die SS im Konzentrationslager Auschwitz ein streng geheimes Experiment durch, das den Beginn der Shoah markierte. Mehrere Hundert Kriegsgefangene wurden mit Zyklon B ermordet, einem Granulat, das hochgiftige Blausäure freisetzt. Wenige Wochen später übergab der Repräsentant des deutschen IG-Farben-Konzerns in der Schweiz in seiner Villa am Vierwaldstätter See amerikanischen Kurieren streng geheime Dokumente über Hitlers Giftgasproduktion, auch über das von den IG Farben produzierte Zyklon B. Gelangten auf diesem Wege schon früh Informationen über die geplante sogenannte "Endlösung der Judenfrage" in die USA?
In den USA war Blausäure schon 1924 zur Exekution von Menschen eingesetzt worden. Damals starb im Staatsgefängnis von Nevada erstmals ein Straftäter durch das Giftgas. In den 30er Jahren forschte das amerikanische Chemieunternehmen Du Pont über Blausäure als Insektenkiller, aber auch als Mittel der Wahl für Hinrichtungen in der Gaskammer. Du Pont stand dabei in engem Informationsaustausch mit den Experten des IG-Farben-Konzerns in Frankfurt. Diese Beziehungen blieben sogar bestehen, nachdem Amerika im Dezember 1941 in den Krieg gegen Hitler-Deutschland eingetreten war.
Die Dokumentation erzählt in diesem Zusammenhang auch die einzigartige Geschichte des deutschen Wirtschaftsberaters Erwin Respondek, der erst an den Kartellvereinbarungen zwischen IG Farben und Du Pont beteiligt war, dann zum Spion wurde und die Amerikaner mit Geheimnissen über Hitlers Giftgasproduktion versorgte. Respondek residierte in einem Büro am Pariser Platz in Berlin, direkt neben der US-Botschaft. Mit den meist handschriftlichen Dossiers in der Aktentasche ging er die paar Schritte hinüber, in vollem Bewusstsein, dass dies ein tödliches Risiko bedeutete. Die Amerikaner jedoch, so stellte sich später heraus, misstrauten seinen Angaben. Nach dem Krieg geriet Respondek schnell in Vergessenheit - auch in Washington.

Pariser Platz
Pariser Platz is a square in the centre of Berlin, Germany, situated by the Brandenburg Gate at the end of the Unter den Linden. The square is named after the French capital Paris in honour of the anti-Napoleon Allies' occupation of Paris in 1814, and is one of the main focal points of the city.
History
Pariser Platz is the square immediately behind the Brandenburg Gate when approaching the centre of Berlin from the Tiergarten in the west. The neo-classical Brandenburg Gate was completed in the early 1790s by Carl Gotthard Langhans. Until 1814 the square was known simply as Quarré or Viereck (the Square). In March 1814, when Prussian troops along with the other Allies captured Paris after the overthrow of Napoleon, it was renamed Pariser Platz to mark this triumph.
The Brandenburg Gate was the main gate in the western side of the Customs Wall that surrounded the city in the eighteenth century, and the Pariser Platz is at the west end of the avenue of Unter den Linden, the ceremonial axis of the city, down which the victorious troops of all regimes from the Hohenzollerns to the German Democratic Republic have marched in triumph.

Brandenburg Gate
The Brandenburg Gate (German: Brandenburger Tor) is an 18th-century neoclassical triumphal arch in Berlin, and one of the best-known landmarks of Germany. It is built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel.
It is located in the western part of the city centre of Berlin within Mitte, at the junction of Unter den Linden and Ebertstraße, immediately west of the Pariser Platz. One block to the north stands the Reichstag building that houses the German parliament (Bundestag). The gate is the monumental entry to Unter den Linden, the renowned boulevard of linden trees, which led directly to the royal City Palace of the Prussian monarchs.
It was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a sign of peace and built by architect Carl Gotthard Langhans from 1788 to 1791. Having suffered considerable damage in World War II, the Brandenburg Gate was fully restored from 2000 to 2002 by the Stiftung Denkmalschutz Berlin (Berlin Monument Conservation Foundation).

Berlin
Berlin (/bərˈlɪn/, German: [bɛɐ̯ˈliːn]) is the capital of Germany and one of the 16 states of Germany. With a population of 3.5 million people, it is the second most populous city proper and the seventh most populous urban area in the European Union. Since the fall of the wall Berlin has been trying to come back as the metropolis it once was. An important part of this was the re-building of the center of the city, where the wall once stood. Within a few years this center was rebuilt, accompanied by an extensive public debate about the quality of the new architecture and the merits of the city planning for the area. To retrieve the ambiance of the metropolitan Berlin of the past would not be possible, but there is evidence that a new Berlin has emerged, with many worthwhile qualities that are unique to the city.
Pariser Platz at the Brandenburg gate is one of the historic squares that has re-emerged. Getestet wurde die verheerende Wirkung des vom Frankfurter IG-Farben-Konzern produzierten Zyklon B bereits 1941 an Kriegsgefangenen. Die streng geheimen Informationen über die Giftgasproduktion in Deutschland wurden schon früh an die Amerikaner verraten. Die Dokumentation des amerikanischen Journalisten Scott Christianson und seines deutschen Kollegen Egmont R. Koch untersucht in diesem Zusammenhang die Rolle des deutschen Wirtschaftsberaters Erwin Respondek.
Am 3. September 1941 führte die SS im Konzentrationslager Auschwitz ein streng geheimes Experiment durch, das den Beginn der Shoah markierte. Mehrere Hundert Kriegsgefangene wurden mit Zyklon B ermordet, einem Granulat, das hochgiftige Blausäure freisetzt. Wenige Wochen später übergab der Repräsentant des deutschen IG-Farben-Konzerns in der Schweiz in seiner Villa am Vierwaldstätter See amerikanischen Kurieren streng geheime Dokumente über Hitlers Giftgasproduktion, auch über das von den IG Farben produzierte Zyklon B. Gelangten auf diesem Wege schon früh Informationen über die geplante sogenannte "Endlösung der Judenfrage" in die USA?
In den USA war Blausäure schon 1924 zur Exekution von Menschen eingesetzt worden. Damals starb im Staatsgefängnis von Nevada erstmals ein Straftäter durch das Giftgas. In den 30er Jahren forschte das amerikanische Chemieunternehmen Du Pont über Blausäure als Insektenkiller, aber auch als Mittel der Wahl für Hinrichtungen in der Gaskammer. Du Pont stand dabei in engem Informationsaustausch mit den Experten des IG-Farben-Konzerns in Frankfurt. Diese Beziehungen blieben sogar bestehen, nachdem Amerika im Dezember 1941 in den Krieg gegen Hitler-Deutschland eingetreten war.
Die Dokumentation erzählt in diesem Zusammenhang auch die einzigartige Geschichte des deutschen Wirtschaftsberaters Erwin Respondek, der erst an den Kartellvereinbarungen zwischen IG Farben und Du Pont beteiligt war, dann zum Spion wurde und die Amerikaner mit Geheimnissen über Hitlers Giftgasproduktion versorgte. So we're wrapping things up here. What would be your one tip for visiting Paris? Well, I have recently spent a whole ten days here in summer. I would say that if you really want to visit the art galleries, the museums and all of the main attractions you should probably avoid summer and like either come in the spring or the fall or even winter. Because the lines are insane and sometimes you have to wait like an hour and a half or two hours.
So how about you? What are your final thoughts on Paris? So my finals thoughts is obviously Paris is one of the top cities in the world in terms of attractions. There is going to be garbage, there is going to be lines, there is going to be some areas that are a bit of an eyesore. But there is also a lot of beauty and there is also a lot to do here.
