He was born into a family of professional singers that included soprano Rosa de Vries-van Os (1828--1889) and baritones Hermann Devriès (1858--1949) and his father Maurice Devriès (1854--1919). He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and débuted in the role of Gérald in Delibes's Lakmé at the Opéra-Comique, where he regularly performed throughout his career. His repertoire included Almaviva, Don José, Toinet in Le chemineau, Clément in La Basoche, Armand in Massenet's Thérèse, Alfredo, Jean in Sapho, Rabaud's Mârouf, Vincent in Mireille, Wilhelm in Mignon, Pedro in Laparra's La habanera, Des Grieux, Werther, Julien, Pinkerton and Cavaradossi as well as principal roles in many forgotten works] He created roles in the operas Aphrodite (Philodème), Les Armaillis (Hansli), Circé (Helpénor), Le roi aveugle (Ymer) and La Victoire (un Brigadier), at the Opéra-Comique
He performed alongside Mary Garden, Luisa Tetrazzini and Dame Nellie Melba. He also gave the world premiere of Boulanger's song cycle 'Clairières dans le Ciel', which Boulanger claimed was inspired by his voice.
In 1909-10 Devriès took part in the final season of Oscar Hammerstein I's Manhattan Opera Company, singing a range of French opera, including Pelléas et Mélisande, which he also performed in 1910 at Covent Garden. He created the role of Paco in Manuel de Falla's La vie breve. He was also a very active singer in oratorio, in works ranging from J. S. Bach's St Matthew Passion to Berlioz' The Damnation of Faust.
At the Paris Concerts du Conservatoire Devriès sang in the B Minor Mass of J.S. Bach (1908, 1926 and 1931), the St John Passion of J.S Bach (1914), in Beethoven's Choral Symphony (1926, and at the Beethoven centenary concert in 1927) and the 2nd part of L'Enfance du Christ by Berlioz (1931).
His son Ivan (born Daniel) Devriès (1909--97), great grand-son of Théophile Gautier and Ernesta Grisi, was a composer and musician

Rebecca Renee Black (born June 21, 1997) is an American singer and YouTuber who gained extensive media attention with the 2011 single "Friday". After the video went viral on YouTube and other social media sites, "Friday" was derided by many music critics and viewers, who dubbed it "the worst song ever". Rebecca went on to do other songs, of which her song "Saturday" sung with Dave Days earned more success. She currently uploads videos on her YouTube channel about various topics.
Early life and education
Black was born in Irvine, California. She is the daughter of John Jeffery Black and Georgina Marquez Kelly, both veterinarians. Her mother is of Mexican descent, and her father, originally from Iowa, is of English, Italian, and Polish descent. Black attended private school from kindergarten to 6th grade, and moved to a public school due to bullying. She joined the school's musical theater program, where she felt she was "meant to be." In April 2011, Black dropped out in favor of homeschooling, citing both a need to focus on her career and a desire to avoid taunts from her former classmates. Black was also failing English class due to her busy schedule.

He was born into a family of professional singers that included soprano Rosa de Vries-van Os (1828--1889) and baritones Hermann Devriès (1858--1949) and his father Maurice Devriès (1854--1919). He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and débuted in the role of Gérald in Delibes's Lakmé at the Opéra-Comique, where he regularly performed throughout his career. His repertoire included Almaviva, Don José, Toinet in Le chemineau, Clément in La Basoche, Armand in Massenet's Thérèse, Alfredo, Jean in Sapho, Rabaud's Mârouf, Vincent in Mireille, Wilhelm in Mignon, Pedro in Laparra's La habanera, Des Grieux, Werther, Julien, Pinkerton and Cavaradossi as well as principal roles in many forgotten works] He created roles in the operas Aphrodite (Philodème), Les Armaillis (Hansli), Circé (Helpénor), Le roi aveugle (Ymer) and La Victoire (un Brigadier), at the Opéra-Comique
He performed alongside Mary Garden, Luisa Tetrazzini and Dame Nellie Melba. He also gave the world premiere of Boulanger's song cycle 'Clairières dans le Ciel', which Boulanger claimed was inspired by his voice.
In 1909-10 Devriès took part in the final season of Oscar Hammerstein I's Manhattan Opera Company, singing a range of French opera, including Pelléas et Mélisande, which he also performed in 1910 at Covent Garden. He created the role of Paco in Manuel de Falla's La vie breve. He was also a very active singer in oratorio, in works ranging from J. S. Bach's St Matthew Passion to Berlioz' The Damnation of Faust.
At the Paris Concerts du Conservatoire Devriès sang in the B Minor Mass of J.S. Bach (1908, 1926 and 1931), the St John Passion of J.S Bach (1914), in Beethoven's Choral Symphony (1926, and at the Beethoven centenary concert in 1927) and the 2nd part of L'Enfance du Christ by Berlioz (1931).
His son Ivan (born Daniel) Devriès (1909--97), great grand-son of Théophile Gautier and Ernesta Grisi, was a composer and musician

free at last from all my burdens,

between my father and mother.
No proud epitaph
or fancy words for me.
Just a few roses
scattered here and there
in the grass, moss,
flowering alfalfa,
and a scrap of field
on my horizon!
The church of my youth,
whitewashed,
where I devoutly
served at Mass,
is still there
on guard,
and looking over
the rows of cypress trees.
Surrounded by my loved ones,
once again I will hear
the sweet voices of the bells over the town.
They knew me when I was twenty!
They have not grown any sadder.
They will tell me
things to pass the time.

John Krasinski, best known as action super star Jim from The Office, has signed on to star as Jack Ryan in the newly announced Amazon series from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and former Lost co-showrunner, Carlton Cuse. There isn’t one particular novel of source material for the series and Cuse and writer Graham Roland said it will not be an origin story, but will jump off during the prime of Ryan's CIA analyst career.
Sylvester Stallone, fresh off his Oscar nominated role in Creed, has signed on to star in Antoine Fuqua’s Omerta. The series is based off the third book in the Mario Puzo trilogy that started with The Godfather and followed by The Last Don. This will be Sly’s first foray into TV, if you don’t count the reality show The Contender with Sugar Ray Leonard.
Remember that scene in Wet Hot American Summer when they talk about meeting up 10 years later to see what everyone is up to? Yeah? Well that’s actually happening. The success of the 8 episodes of Wet American Summer: First Day of Camp led to Netflix ordering another 8 episodes that will take place 10 years after the final day of camp from the movie. This may all sound confusing, but if you’re a Wet Hot American Summer fan it makes total sense.
The Russo Brothers, who will see their film Captain America: Civil War hit theatres this weekend, are headed back to TV with their company Getaway Productions and Skybound entertainment preemptively acquiring the rights to The Mastermind. The real life crime series, with comparisons to Serial and Making a Murderer, is written by Atavist founder Evan Ratliff, and will investigate the real life of Paul LeRoux, a cartel kingpin turned government asset.

In an interview at a Netflix event in The UK, Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox revealed that the Defenders series for Netflix will begin filming at the end of the year. Daredevil co-showrunners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez will serve as showrunners for The Defenders, with Drew Goddard staying close to the properties in the role as an executive producer. So, Luke Cage is slated for September 30th of this year, Iron Fist in 2017, The Defenders and possibly Jessica Jones season 2 somewhere in the mix as well.
Next on TV Talk, what show would be complete without talking the 6th season of Game of Thrones. The show is now 6 days, 2 hours and 41 minutes away from its debut with an eventual crash of HBO GO and the launch of 936 new podcasts themed around "Winter Coming." But with all that excitement, in true Game of Thrones fashion, fans were stabbed through the heart when, in an exclusive interview with Variety, show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss said they are mulling over the idea of ending the battle for the Iron Throne with just 13 more episodes once this sixth season is over. Seven episodes for season 7; six for the 8th and potential final season. Also HBO says the potential Game of Thrones spinoffs are quote, "up in the air."
The currently untitled Star Trek TV series that will debut on CBS in January of 2017 and then exclusively stream on CBS All Access has been given a timeline. According to Birth. Movies. Death., the show will be set between Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and Star Trek: The Next Generation. That leaves a 70-year chunk of the series’ timeline open to explore. Though it's a rumor, it’s hard to predict just where the new series will fall. But if true, then the TV series will exist in Star Trek‘s original continuity and not the rebooted timeline of the J.J. Abrams’ films. Bryan Fuller will be serving as show runner with exec producers Alex Kurtzman, Nicholas Meyer, and Rod Roddenberry; all names that have been synonymous with the Star Trek universe.
In renewals and cancellation news, New Girl, Man Seeking Woman and Fear the Walking Dead, all got the green light for new seasons, while Episodes will see its end after 5 seasons along with Louis C.K.’s, Horace & Pete - which will end just after 10 episodes.
SUPERHERO RUNDOWN
At the Captain America: Civil War premiere, Cheo Hodari Coker, screenwriter and executive producer of Marvel’s Luke Cage, said he wants the show to be The Wire of the Marvel TV Universe.
Iron Fist, the last Defender to be introduced in the Netflix Marvel Universe has cast David Wenham as its villain, Harold Meachum as a ruthless corporate leader who was partners with Danny Rand’s parents at the time of their deaths. What role he plays in Danny’s past and future will be revealed over the course of the series.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, which airs on The CW, got off to kind of a slow start, but in typical fashion, Greg Berlanti and his own super team of producers and writers are pulling off the time traveling Legends series in dynamic fashion.

Two weeks ago on TV Talk, we discussed Kal-El aka Clark Kent aka Superman appearing in at least two episodes of Supergirl this season when it airs on its new home, The CW. Now we know who will fill the red and blue tights. In a report from TV Line Supergirl has cast Tyler Hoechlin, probably best known for his role on MTV’s Teen Wolf and his recent turn in Richard Linklater‘s Everybody Wants Some.
In a report from Variety, HBO programming president Casey Bloys confirmed that Larry David will do another season of Curb Your Enthusiasm for season nine. Larry David said of his decision to return, “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’” The HBO comedy series began in October of 2000 and its last season concluded in 2011. That makes it HBO’s longest-running series of all time.
Making a Murderer creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos will venture into scripted TV with Variety reporting the duo will be teaming with George Clooney and Grant Heslov‘s Smokehouse Pictures on America’s Most Admired Lawbreaker. The drama, originally a Huffington Post series written by journalist Steven Brill, tells the true story of a shady division inside pharmaceutical giant Johnson and Johnson that created a powerful drug and marketed it aggressively to children and the elderly while allegedly manipulating and hiding data about its terrible side effects.
Next, the crew give their review and reaction to last night's Game of Thrones with a short discussion by the entire panel. Be wary, there be spoilers beyond!
SUPERHERO RUNDOWN
Season 3 of The Flash won’t arrive until October, but executive producer Greg Berlanti has apparently decided to show fans the direction the show is headed. Star of the show, Grant Gustin tweeted the title of season 3’s first episode - Flashpoint; which could refer to Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s 2011 comic book story arc Flashpoint, in which Barry Allen wakes up to find that his entire world has changed.
In Arrow casting news, Josh Segarra has been added as Adrian Chase, Star City's new district attorney who will be a friend, not foe, to Mayor Oliver Queen. Introduced in the pages of New Teen Titans Annual #2 back in 1983, Chase became Vigilante as a means to fight crime outside of his official jurisdictions. Also in the casting rumor mill, thanks to a mysterious tweet from Arrow stunt coordinator James Bamford, Spectre could also be a HUGE addition to the cast.
The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow is getting an actual Justice League member in season 2. According to Deadline, Nick Zano will play DC Comics character Dr. Nate Heywood, aka Commander Steel. In The New 52, a cousin also named Nate Heywood, became Citizen Steel.

Variety reported last week that FOX is getting into the X-Men business with a new action-adventure series from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. The network has given a put pilot commitment to the untitled superhero series, which will follow “two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.” The news comes a year after FOX announced their first planned Marvel series, Hellfire, which fell off the docket when showrunners Evan Katz and Manny Coto dropped off to shepherd 24: Legacy. The report confirms that Hellfire is no longer moving forward.
In a report from The Playlist, Steven Soderbergh spoke at an event at The Nitehawk theatre in New York City and discussed The Knick season 3 and the future of auteur television. He said, “I’m chasing stories and want to work with people that aren’t scared…So right now, as we all know, there’s some really interesting stuff happening in the TV space. What I would like to see happen is what we did on ‘The Girlfriend Experience’ and what we did on ‘The Knick’ which is auteur driven TV. Filmmakers and directors that really take on a whole show and do the whole thing. I just think you get a better result, you get something that’s more unified and more specific, as opposed to having multiple directors coming in.”
Kathy Bates, The Oscar and Emmy-winning actress, is teaming up with TV uber-producer Chuck Lorre for a new Netflix comedy, Disjointed. Netflix has made an initial order of 20 episodes straight to series of the cannabis fueled half-hour multi-camera comedy, which will star Bates as a lifelong marijuana advocate who’s living the dream as the owner of her own Los Angeles cannabis dispensary. Josh, will Netflix finally get the pot dispensary comedy right?
Superhero Rundown
Famed comic book artist and Marvel Entertainment chief creative officer Joe Quesada designed the key art for the brand new Luke Cage poster. Quesada said, “You’ve got one shot to encapsulate a character with a pose that’s provocative and that you hope will someday be iconic.” Marvel’s newest superhero series hits Netflix September 30. Sasha, thoughts on the Luke Cage art?
Last week The CW released first pictures of Wally West as Kid Flash. In a post on the DC Comics website, it’s noted that Wally’s costume is very similar to that of the comics, with the yellow and red design, as well as the exposed hair. The yellow design also looks a lot like Reverse Flash although the red pants differentiate it. David, thoughts on the Kid Flash images?
The CW’s newest female hero, Supergirl, has added beloved gay character, detective Maggie Sawyer will officially return to live action. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Floriana Lima will join the Supergirl cast as a series regular “inspired by”, but still named Maggie Sawyer, in this iteration “a detective for the National City Police Department who takes a special interest in the cases involving aliens.” The John Byrne-created character was first introduced in 1987 becoming one of the first openly gay characters in mainstream comics. Sasha, is this a great addition to the cast of Supergirl?

Last week ABC went all French Revolution and put the guillotine to Agent Carter, Castle, Nashville AND The Muppets Show. After a disappointing season 2 of Agent Carter, it wasn’t a shock that we wouldn’t see Hayley Atwell reprise her role, but 8 year vet Castle fell victim to contracts and loss of a main cast member; the Muppets got zero traction and even less marketing, with Nashville getting the guitar, I mean axe, at the Disney owned studio shocking a lot of fans.
In the wake of all the cancellations last week, CBS, the most watched network, pulled the plug on the last CSI franchise, CSI: Cyber, but greenlit a reboot of MacGuyver and a series spinoff of the Antoine Fuqua movie Training Day. MacGuyver will star Lucas Till of X-Men fame as the man with the ability to make bombs out of household items which, thankfully, inspired the likes of MacGruber. Training Day on the other hand stars Bill Paxton playing the Denzel Washington type role in the series with newcomer Justin Cornwell taking on the Ethan Hawke, young cop, role.
As reported by Variety, Joel Kinnaman has signed on to star in the Netflix series, Altered Carbon. The series is based on the Richard K. Morgan novel that takes place in the 25th century, where the human mind has been digitized and souls are transferable. Kinnaman will play Takeshi Kovacs, a former interstellar warrior who was put into “storage” and later downloaded into the future. Game of Thrones’ Miguel Sapochnik, who directed Season 5’s critically acclaimed episode Hardhome, will tackle the first episode with Laeta Kalogridis, who wrote Terminator Genisys and Shutter Island, writing the series and serving as showrunner.
SUPERHERO RUNDOWN
We talked last week on TV Talk about the possibility of Supergirl heading from CBS to The CW and last week it was made official. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Supergirl will make her way to The CW and move production to Vancouver where Greg Berlanti’s Arrow and The Flash call home.
Krysten Ritter, who plays Marvel’s Jessica Jones, sat down with Digital Spy last week letting us in on some of the goings on in Marvel’s Netflix TV Universe. The superhero with a love of cheap whiskey and sexual soirees said Jessica Jones season 2 would shoot immediately after The Defenders and also that she can’t say if she’s shot anything for Luke Cage.
Not only did ABC go ahead and cancel everything last week including Christmas, they also crushed fans of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when they didn’t pick up Marvel’s Most Wanted, the much anticipated spin-off of the adventures of Bobbi and Lance played by Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood. The two left the series during a tearful bar scene and fans have been clamoring for their return, but apparently ABC didn’t hear their pleas.
And finally in some happy news, Powerless, a DC Comics comedy about regular folks dealing with the damage left behind by superheroes is a go at NBC. The cast includes, Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi, Christina Kirk and Vanessa Hudgens. Hudgens will play Emily, an insurance adjuster left to clean up the mess left behind by the superheros and the villains who love to try and kill them and in the process destroy cities.

Last night we saw the final episode of season 6 of HBO’s Game of Thrones. If you’d like to avoid spoilers, keep an eye out for the spoiler alert on the following video. Wait till you see the sidebar change to join back in the conversation.
During an interview at the Saturn Awards with Bryan Fuller, showrunner for the new Star Trek series debuting on CBS All Access, Collider’s Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub got some great news for the fans. Fuller, who also worked on Voyager and Deep Space Nine, said the season will be 13 episodes with the entire story being outlined and written. They’re also meeting with possible actor and thinking outside the box when it comes to gender, sexuality, and the boundaries where the show can go. He also mentioned we might get more news at Comic Con and that he’s looking at race cars as inspirations for the new ship.
USA has kept spoilers, hints and just about everything else about season 2 of Mr. Robot under lock and key, but we did get some good news last week. The network will air back to back episodes when they premiere season 2 on July 13th at 10pm. They’ll also be adding 2 more episodes taking the total to 12. Sam Esmail, the creator of the show, will direct every episode AND USA is launching an after show called Hacking Robot.
SUPERHERO RUNDOWN
Images of a San Diego metro train last week got fans of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in quite the stir. The train is wrapped in art promoting the only superhero show left on ABC and what fans would imagine is a big presence at Comic Con at the end of July. The most prominent graphic on the train is a flaming chain which, pun intended, set the internet speculators on fire at the possibility of seeing Ghost Rider in season 4.
Stephen Amell, aka Oliver Queen aka The Green Arrow, took to Facebook live to do some ab work and also tell fans what to expect in the season 5 premiere. Along with saying that season is going to be ‘f***ing mean’ Amell also dropped some possibly fantastic hyperbole when he said, the premiere may have the most vicious, violent one-shot in the history of network television.

In their continuing plot to take over the television and movie world, Netflix announced this week that starting in September they will be the exclusive streaming home for all Disney properties. That means that beginning with 2016 theatrical releases, titles from Disney, Walt Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Disneynature, and Lucasfilm will be made available to Netflix subscribers to watch during that first pay TV time period; which occurs after the Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD releases, an option that in previous years would go to HBO or STARZ.
HBO’s Westworld, the series that seemed like the Sisyphus of the HBO universe FINALLY got a release window in late fall of 2016. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy wrote the script with Nolan directing the pilot and finale of the project based on the 1973 Yul Brynner-James Brolin film. Westworld takes place at a resort set in a future where guests pay to act out elaborate fantasies in different time periods run by sophisticated human-like androids. HBO hasn’t released an exact date, but they’re finally pulling the trigger on the much hyped series and not holding off until 2017, like early reports had expected.
In Cancellation and Renewal News, Limitless at CBS appears to be the last victim post up-fronts with FX’s The Americans also announced to be ending with season 5 in 2017 and season 6 in 2018. And during a Hollywood Reporter discussion with HBO’s new head of production, Casey Bloys, it appears that we may never see a True Detective season 3.

Noah Hawley, the mind behind the Fargo TV series, talked this week about his plans for his Legion series at FX and his plans to tie it into the X-MEN cinematic universe. The show has a cast in line with the likes of Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey in the lead role; with Aubrey Plaza and Jean Smart also joining the series. FX ordered the series which will air early in 2017. Hawley wrote the pilot and is exec producing alongside Laura Shuler-Donner, Simon Kinberg, Bryan Singer with Marvel’s Jim Chory and Fargo EP John Cameron. In an interview with Vanity Fair Hawley said, “There’s, whatever, 9,000 superhero stories right now. They’ve got all the running and kicking covered. I think my goal with this is to do something whimsical and imaginative and unexpected. Not just because I want to do something different, but because it feels like the right way to tell this story.”
We were also treated last week to set photos from Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series Luke Cage and his foil, Diamondback, played by Erik LaRay Harvey of Boardwalk Empire fame. Diamondback, aka Willis Stryker, was Cage’s childhood friend who re-enters the hero for hire’s life to ruin his valiant efforts to clean up Harlem.

In the 7 Kingdoms, ‘Winter is Here’ and apparently that means we’ll have to wait even longer for HBO’s Game of Thrones season 7. It’s okay to let out an audible groan. Last week on the Unfiltered Podcast via HitFix, showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff said, “We don’t have an air date yet. We’re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘Winter is here’ – and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”
The Walking Dead may not have had the most well received season finale this year, but apparently we’re learning from The Hollywood Reporter, that the AMC hit series has promoted four of its actors to series regulars. The four getting nicer paychecks will be Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the villainous Negan, Tom Payne the enigmatic Jesus, Austin Amelio who we know as Daryl’s nemesis, and Xander Berkeley as the creepy leader of The Hilltop Colony. With these additions, that brings Robert Kirkman’s - can we say zombie soap opera - to a whopping 20 series regulars. That’s two more than last year’s season high.

Wednesday Preview Night: Riverdale, Powerless & People of Earth highlight Warner Brothers’ annual preview night from 6-10pm in Ballroom 20.
Thursday: CBS Panel, with a TBT of classic CBS stars talking about their roles and TV Shows. Colony, The Strain, The Last Ship, Silicon Valley and Man in High Castle, THEN… Luke Cage 5:45 - 6:45pm in Ballroom 20 AND Mr. Robot at 6pm in 6BCF.
Friday: The Walking Dead (Fear The Walking Dead), GoT, Orphan Black, Agents of Shield, American Gods, Vikings Preacher, Rick and Morty, Bobs Burgers, South Park 20, Archer Screening, iZombie.

Superhero Rundown
John Barrowman who plays Malcolm Merlyn in the CW DC TV universe just signed a cross series deal making him the villain/hero/nuisance on Arrow - and is now a thorn in the side of The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and maybe even Supergirl; much to Speedy McQueen’s relief. Barrowman’s new deal makes him a series regular on all of the CW/DC shows executive produced by Greg Berlanti, except for hopefully Riverdale, but who knows?! The deal for Barrowman is similar to what Wentworth Miller signed earlier this year.
SPOILER ALERT - According to the spoiler room and Entertainment Weekly, the new mission for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is more about fulfilling a needed role in the universe instead of taking on one villain specifically. Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim said quote, “In many ways, the season finale of season 1 set up the new mission statement for season 2. Like Rip says at the end of the season finale. We basically have to be the Time Masters.” The team will also have some new talent when they tackle next season’s time traveling universe, adding Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Vixen, Nick Zano as Justice Society of America member Citizen Steel and of course Rex Tyler's Hourman who we met last season.
