Food Diplomacy: Ariana's Tex-Mex Sandwich

U.S. Embassy Ljubljana, January 2014 Music: "Beachfront Celebration" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Recipe for Tex-Mex Sandwich (the ingredients for approximately 2-3 sandwiches) 1 lb cut meat (Ariana is using beef or veal) 1 small red onion, sliced 1 red ripe tomato, deseeded 2-3 tbs Worcestershire sauce salt pepper 2-3 tbs olive oil 2-3 sandwich buns sliced cheese, provolone, or your favorite cheese 1 avocado mustard mayonnaise Slice meat into stir-fry-like strips. Ariana is using an iron skillet for better taste and cooking results. After pouring 2-3 tbs olive oil, start frying the meat by itself over medium heat. Brown the meat on all sides, add some onions and as they fry on the side, add Worcestershire sauce, lower the heat at this point, add the tomato, pepper and salt, slightly cover and let simmer for just about 15 minutes to cook. While it's simmering, we prepare the sandwich buns. We slice them open and remove the soft part to create a cavity. Toast, if desired. Spread some mustard and mayonnaise on the bread. Put in sliced avocados, add meat, and sliced cheese. Enjoy the sandwich!

Yesterday, Mr. R. and Miss Dee, from Wichita, Kansas, came to the rescue ranch! This afternoon after lunch, I decided to fix them a snack, and visit with them. I made them chicken fajitas and they loved them and really warmed up to me! So, I returned to the trailer, and cooked two cheese and garlic quesadillas for them. I asked Tony to go feed them to Mr. R. and Miss Dee, so I could video it. In this short video clip, Miss Dee loved the quesadillas, and Mr. R. wasn't sure about them, since he is used to Wichita, Kansas mexican food, so he hid his. I am thrilled that they like my Tex-Mex cooking!

Pull up a chair and join us for some outstanding, authentic Tex Mex food. Usually here in Ukraine the "International cuisine" is simply Ukrainian food pretending to be something else. Not here. I ate so much I had to go home (2 minutes away) and open my pants so I could breathe. Now that the video is up, I can begin my food coma. Oh and the bill came to less than $20 USD (198 uah).
