Regarded as one of the best snorkeling spots in the world.
Sunny day kayaking at Kealakekua Bay. We found the dolphins at the mid point of the bay paddling toward Captain Cook Monument.
We walk through everything you need to know about the hike down to the Captain Cook monument at Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island. For directions you can Google Maps search 19.493,-155.918 Or, if you prefer actual directions, just south of the town of Kealakekua you will want to turn makai (towards the ocean) onto Napo'opo'o Rd. Just a few hundred feet down this road you will want to park on the mauka (towards the mountain) side of the road. Be sure to pull completely off of the road so you don't get sideswiped! Trail description: the trail is approximately 1.8 miles long with an elevation loss of 1250 ft going down. Coming back up is a bit more strenuous, as you will be climbing, climbing, climbing. There are no difficult obstacles. The main thing you need to look out for is loose footin...

Kealakekua Bay is one of the most historic and pristine locations in the entire state. But for local residents, placing their kayak in the ocean is not allowed.
On our vacation on the island of Hawaii, we hiked down to Kealakekua Bay from the trailhead on Nāpō'opo'o Road. A fairly difficult 2 mile trail through an overgrown field and over plenty of lava rock. If you go, make sure to take plenty of water. The snorkelling was great and we got up close with a sea turtle. Filmed with a GoPro Hero.

►Hawaii the Big Island History ►See more: https://goo.gl/QcmzNa It all began on Hawaii Island. The youngest island in the archipelago, Hawaii Island was believed to be the first island Polynesian voyagers from the Marquesas Islands set foot on 1,500 years ago at Ka Lae (South Point). You can explore early Hawaiian culture today at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park. This last place of refuge for kapu (taboo) breakers on the Kona Coast, is a 180-acre, completely restored compound offering an authentic look at Native Hawaiian temple ruins, royal grounds, fish ponds, sacred burial spots and petroglyphs from before western contact. In 1778, Captain Cook arrived on Kauai, opening the door to an influx of westerners. Only a year later on Hawaii Island, warriors at Kealakekua Bay killed...
