Maersk Line is the global container division and the largest operating unit of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, a Danish business conglomerate. It is the world's largest container shipping company having customers through 374 offices in 116 countries. It employs approximately 7,000 sea farers and approximately 25,000 land-based people. Maersk Line operates over 600 vessels and has a capacity of 2.6 million TEU. The company was founded in 1928
As of July 2011 Maersk Line fleet comprises more than 600 vessels and a number of containers corresponding to more than 3.8 million TEU (Twenty-foot equivalent unit)
In 2006, the largest container ship in the world to date, the E-class vessel Emma Maersk, was delivered to Maersk Line from Odense Steel Shipyard.
Seven other sister ships have since been built, and in 2011, Maersk ordered 20 even larger container ships from Daewoo, the Triple E class, each with a capacity of 18,000 containers. The first of these Triple E Class ships was delivered on June 14, 2013 and was christened with the name Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller after the founder of the Maersk Line

Møller – Maersk Group has activities in a variety of business sectors, primarily within the transportation and energy sectors. It has been the largest container ship operator and supply vessel operator in the world since 1996.
A.P. Møller – Maersk Group is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with subsidiaries and offices in more than 135 countries worldwide and around 89,000 employees. It ranked 148 on the Forbes Global 2000 list for 2015.
History
A.P. Møller – Maersk Group started as the shipping company Dampskibsselskabet Svendborg (Danish for "Svendborg Steamship Company") founded by captain Peter Mærsk-Møller and his son Arnold Peter Møller (2 October 1876 - June 1965) in Svendborg, April 1904. A.P. Møller had four children, two by each of his two wives Chastine Estelle Roberta Mc-Kinney and Norwegian-born Pernille Ulrikke Amalie Nielsen. A.P. Møller's second child was Arnold Mærsk McKinney Møller (13 July 1913 – 16 April 2012).

In 2006, the largest container ship in the world to date, the E-class vessel Emma Maersk, was delivered to Maersk Line from Odense Steel Shipyard.
Seven other sister ships have since been built, and in 2011, Maersk ordered 20 even larger container ships from Daewoo, the Triple E class, each with a capacity of 18,000 containers. ANTWERPEN - Op de haven van Antwerpen lijkt geen maat te staan. Een containerschip met een recorddiepgang van 15,65 meter heeft de haven bereikt over de Westerschelde. Het gaat om de Eleonora Maersk, een containerreus van 397,71 meter lang en 56,40 meter breed. Het schip is in de nacht van woensdag op donderdag zoveel mogelijk bij hoogtij de Westerschelde opgevaren, tot de ligplaats in het Deurganckdok bij het Scheldedorp Doel. PZC 18-2-2016: Sinds de derde verdieping van de vaargeul in de Westerschelde in 2010 kan de rivier, ongeacht het tij, schepen hebben met een diepgang van 13,10 meter. Bij hoogwater kan dat uiteraard meer zijn.

This massive and amazingly expensive project of building technology is best understood by travelling along it, a journey that takes around nine hours and changes direction twice a day. Soon we will see the monumental steel bridge of Puenta De Las Américas, the only land connection between North and South America, since the channel cuts through both continents. After travelling twelve kilometres inland the ships must negotiate the first double lock, which takes around forty five minutes. After forty kilometres, the third lock system follows, the Gatún Locks, where the ships are lowered twenty six metres. This impressive process takes an hour in three successive lock chambers, each of which is about three hundred metres long. The dream of a water connection between the Atlantic and the Pacific came true within a period of ten years. A remarkable feat of engineering and water power!

Modern time wonder The Panama Canal in Panama City.
Panama City is the capital of the southern state of Central America’s land bridge. This vibrant, modern city is located in a tropical country at which Panama’s isthmus is only eighty miles wide. The country's name is famous because it contains the most important waterway in the world and the development of both urban and rural areas is due to the presence of the gigantic Panama Canal. This massive and amazingly expensive project of building technology is best understood by travelling along it, a journey that takes around nine hours and changes direction twice a day. Soon we will see the monumental steel bridge of Puenta De Las Américas, the only land connection between North and South America, since the channel cuts through both continents. After travelling twelve kilometres inland the ships must negotiate the first double lock, which takes around forty five minutes. After forty kilometres, the third lock system follows, the Gatún Locks, where the ships are lowered twenty six metres. This impressive process takes an hour in three successive lock chambers, each of which is about three hundred metres long. The dream of a water connection between the Atlantic and the Pacific came true within a period of ten years. A remarkable feat of engineering and water power!
