Pennsylvania i/ˌpɛnsᵻlˈveɪnjə/ (Pennsylvania German: Pennsilfaani), officially the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is a state located in the northern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. The Appalachian Mountains run through its middle. The state borders Delaware to the southeast, Maryland to the south, West Virginia to the southwest, Ohio to the west, Lake Erie and the Canadian province of Ontario to the northwest, New York to the north, and New Jersey to the east.
Pennsylvania is the 33rd largest, the 6th most populous, and the 9th most densely populated of the 50 United States. The state's five most populous cities are Philadelphia (1,560,297), Pittsburgh (305,801), Allentown (118,577), Erie (100,671), and Reading (89,893). The state capital is Harrisburg. Pennsylvania has 51 miles (82 km) of coastline along Lake Erie and 57 miles (92 km) of shoreline along the Delaware Estuary.
The state is one of the 13 original founding states of the United States; it was originally founded in 1681 as a result of a royal land grant to William Penn, the son of the state's namesake. It was the second state to ratify the United States Constitution, on December 12, 1787. Independence Hall, where the United States Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution were drafted, is located in the state's largest city of Philadelphia. During the American Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg was fought in the south central region of the state.
Western Pennsylvania refers to the western third of the state of Pennsylvania in the United States. Pittsburgh is the region's principal city, with a metropolitan area population of about 2.4 million people, and serves as its economic and cultural center. Erie, Altoona, and Johnstown are its other metropolitan centers. As of the 2010 census, Western Pennsylvania's total population is nearly 4 million.
Although the Commonwealth does not designate Western Pennsylvania as an official region, since colonial times it has retained a distinct identity not only because of its geographical distance from Philadelphia, the beginning of Pennsylvania settlement, but especially because of its topographical separation from the east by virtue of the Appalachian Mountains, which characterize much of the western region. In the 18th century, this separateness caused some to rally for the formation of a 14th state in this region named Westsylvania. The strong cultural identity of Western Pennsylvania is reinforced by the state supreme court holding sessions in Pittsburgh, in addition to Harrisburg and Philadelphia.

Here is the Christ Church Burial Ground, another famous landmark, where Ben Franklin and four other signers of the Declaration of Independence were laid to rest), Congress Hall (was home of the first Congress. On top of that, George Washington and John Adams were inaugurated here, and the Bill of Righ...

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is the home of an American icon of freedom and democracy. The Liberty Bell first rang out to the citizens of Philadelphia on July 8th 1776 to announce the first reading of the Declaration of Independence. The bell has since been taken out of Independence Hall's bell tower and now rests in the Liberty Bell Center, in front of its historic home. Encircling its crown is a phrase derived from the Bible; specifically Leviticus chapter 25, verse 10. The famous crack in the Liberty Bell is its third, the first two having been repaired. Though this enormous bell is technically broken, the rights and freedoms it stands ...

On Saturday, January 9, 2016, I took a trip out to the Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum in Gibsonia, PA. We take a look at the action on the large HO layout depicting the B&O; and the fictitious Mon-Valley System between Pittsburgh, PA and Cumberland, MD, set in 1952. The opening scene shows the Lionel display in the downstairs children's area, and then we immediately start our tour of the main display on the upper floor. The video is split into 2 parts, with Part 1 shown here. Part 2 coming soon. Enjoy! I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (https://www.youtube.com/editor)
