This is a short video showing the redevelopment work that took place at Newcastle Central Station during 2013 and 2014.
The video is in two parts, the first showing stills of the work being done and to be carried out. The second part is a short video of the completed work which i took in the past week.
Although the work on the actual railway station was completed last year a lot of paving work was still going on (and still is) outside, so I have delayed uploading this video.
The main work is in the portico which was added to the main station building several years after being opened by Queen Victoria in 1850. The portico has been pedestrianized and closed to all road traffic with ticket machines and retail outlets are now installed.
In the concourse the ticket office has been demolished and replaced by retail outlets with a new ticket office and travel centre opening at the west end of the station.
Some ticket barriers have been repositioned and a new departure/arrival board installed together with a large colour screen.
The main work was undertaken by Miller Construction.
The running of this station will transfer from East Coast to Network rail.

I picked the wrong day to visit Newcastle. I intended to visit and film several attractions / features in the city, however the rain, sleet and snow had other ideas, and I remained confined to Newcastle Central Station. Not one to be outdone I made a short film of comings and goings at the station in very inclement weather.
The film begins with water pouring through the roof onto the station platform, and then focuses on passing rail traffic and the station architecture. Featured train classes are Class 43, Class 82, Class 66, Class 156, and Class 142. Featured train operating companies are East Coast, Cross Country, Northern Trains, Scot Rail, Trans Pennine Express and GBRF.
This was also a day of chaos on the East Coast Mainline, resulting in several delayed trains and terminations at Newcastle Central, as North of Newcastle at Berwick, a train had broken down after its pantograph had pulled the over head cable down, resulting in minor chaos during the Easter holiday season.
The video ends with the journey South out of Newcastle Central and across the River Tyne rail bridge.

A real historic gem this. Video I never thought I'd see.
The mighty Evening Star hauls the Newcastle and Carlisle 150 commemorative train on the loco's one and only visit to the north east.
The 9f sets off from Newcastle and 'races' an HST across the King Edward Bridge trading hooters.Then there is a nice shot of the long demolished Greenesfield sheds at Gateshead, now a boxy housing estate but once home to thoroughbreds like Silver King.
I was on this train and made every journey between Newcastle and Hexham throughout the day.
Just think 92220 was less than 30 years old when this movie was shot. Now long dormant here is a chance to see the Star shine again!
Transferred from ancient VHS so forgive the dropouts!

Newcastle railway station
Newcastle railway station (or Newcastle Central Station) is the principal mainline railway station in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in Tyne and Wear, North East England. Opened in 1850, it is a Grade I listed building and is located in the City Centre at the southern edge of Grainger Town and to the west of the Castle Keep. It is a nationally important transport hub, being both a terminus and through station serving the East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh, the Durham Coast Line to Middlesbrough, and the Tyne Valley Line to Carlisle. It is also served by the adjoining Central Station on the Tyne and Wear Metro. As of June 2015, the station is managed by Virgin Trains East Coast.
All Virgin Trains East Coast services between London and Edinburgh stop at Newcastle, with extensions to Southbound destinations run to London Kings Cross, York and Leeds. CrossCountry supplements services to Scotland, and operates trains southbound to the South West and south coast via Birmingham and the wider Midlands; trains reach as far as Penzance and Southampton. The station is also a terminus for First TransPennine Express, which connects Newcastle to Liverpool, via Leeds and Manchester, including some services to Manchester Airport.

92220 EVENING STAR Newcastle Central Station 9 March 1985 - RARE!
A real historic gem this. Video I never thought I'd see. The mighty Evening Star hauls the Newcastle and Carlisle 150 commemorative train on the loco's one and only visit to the north east. The 9f sets off from Newcastle and 'races' an HST across the King Edward Bridge trading hooters.Then there is a nice shot of the long demolished Greenesfield sheds at Gateshead, now a boxy housing estate but once home to thoroughbreds like Silver King. I was on this train and made every journey between Newcastle and Hexham throughout the day. Just think 92220 was less than 30 years old when this movie was shot. Now long dormant here is a chance to see the Star shine again! Transferred from ancient VHS so forgive the dropouts! From the collection of the late John Hannan, railway enthusiast.

This is a short video showing the redevelopment work that took place at Newcastle Central Station during 2013 and 2014.
The video is in two parts, the first showing stills of the work being done and to be carried out. The second part is a short video of the completed work which i took in the past week.
Although the work on the actual railway station was completed last year a lot of paving work was still going on (and still is) outside, so I have delayed uploading this video.
The main work is in the portico which was added to the main station building several years after being opened by Queen Victoria in 1850. The portico has been pedestrianized and closed to all road traffic with ticket machines and retail outlets are now installed.
In the concourse the ticket office has been demolished and replaced by retail outlets with a new ticket office and travel centre opening at the west end of the station.
Some ticket barriers have been repositioned and a new departure/arrival board installed together with a large colour screen.
The main work was undertaken by Miller Construction.
The running of this station will transfer from East Coast to Network rail.

I picked the wrong day to visit Newcastle. I intended to visit and film several attractions / features in the city, however the rain, sleet and snow had other ideas, and I remained confined to Newcastle Central Station. Not one to be outdone I made a short film of comings and goings at the station in very inclement weather.
The film begins with water pouring through the roof onto the station platform, and then focuses on passing rail traffic and the station architecture. Featured train classes are Class 43, Class 82, Class 66, Class 156, and Class 142. Featured train operating companies are East Coast, Cross Country, Northern Trains, Scot Rail, Trans Pennine Express and GBRF.
This was also a day of chaos on the East Coast Mainline, resulting in several delayed trains and terminations at Newcastle Central, as North of Newcastle at Berwick, a train had broken down after its pantograph had pulled the over head cable down, resulting in minor chaos during the Easter holiday season.
The video ends with the journey South out of Newcastle Central and across the River Tyne rail bridge.

Departing Space Station Commander Provides Tour of Orbital Laboratory
In her final days as Commander of the International Space Station, Sunita Williams of NASA recorded an extensive tour of the orbital laboratory and downlinked the video on Nov. 18, just hours before she, cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and Flight Engineer Aki Hoshide of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency departed in their Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft for a landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan. The tour includes scenes of each of the station's modules and research facilities with a running narrative by Williams of the work that has taken place and which is ongoing aboard the orbital outpost.

Although no forensic evidence was found linking Kearney to the car, he was convicted of the murder.
Across the two episodes, cameras follow as Louise works diligently to explore every avenue of the case. The film reveals what is really involved in the process of presenting a claim to the Criminal Cases Review Commission in the hope of getting a rare referral to the Court of Appeal.
